I saw that and thought Desean Jackson vs the Giants (PS THAT was a horrid choke (Giants led Iggles 31-7 with about 8 mins left) that cost the G Men a playoff berth)...although Jackson was killing off any remaining time on the clock in that game and when he crossed the goal line, the clock read 0:00. JG9 thought exactly the same thing.
@@RichV20 That wasn't really a "celebration" though, and I'm not even convinced it was dumb. For one thing, the Dolphins won that game and also, Shula gave his silent approval by not saying a word to Cox about it.
I want to say I love your videos, but this one is underwhelming. When your adrenaline is pumping, time seems to slow down. He was telling the truth. It's not as baffling as you make this out to be.

I totally agree with him, kill the clock, hurry up and let us go home. This isn't really a showboating celebration at all and reasonably sound. Even with more points and not a lot of time left, it does hasten the end.
There was literally half a quarter left. Come on, I don't get all the people acting like he was actually thinking of killing clock by taking four seconds off halfway through the quarter. He was showboating, it's cool. The more likely thing is he was messing with reporters by telling them he was killing clock. Sure JG9 is blowing it out of proportion, but so are you by attributing a thought process that's less likely (given when it was done) to the situation.
I don't really feel this one. It isn't impossible for a team to overcome a 20 point deficit in the 4th quarter. Any extra time he takes off is a benefit to his team. Just because he didn't execute the same as the offense-based players you referenced doesn't mean he wasn't being genuine, and it doesn't mean the Colts coach wasn't just being a salty boy.
I had thought that Oliver did a huge celebration dance or something. Instead he makes an Int , runs a few seconds sideways and goes in. Nothing else and this is the stupidest celebration in Dolphins History ? Really ? I'm not even a Dolphins fan and I know this one is a huge EPIC reach. lol

You tried dude, but Oliver's explanation is spot on...he was trying to burn off the seconds. It doesn't matter how much of a lead they have, they will do what they can to burn off the clock.

What a bogus explanation. The Buffalo interception brings back memories of when Oliver was acting like he was riding a horse and said "I keep telling yall we ridin' them Buffaloes all the way back to Miami......on the Buffalo's back"

I enjoy your videos and there is great footage of this game but you are making a mountain out of a molehill on the Louis Oliver explanation as no one was hurt and it was discussed very little or at all nationally. If you want to do a Dolphins unusual story instead of this there is the 2000 AFC East clinching win vs the Pats and while many were in the lockerroom celebrating the division title the Refs minutes later made the Dolphins comeback on the field and play one more play because they let the clock run on a Patriots incomplete pass at the end of the game. Another good story is that Miami Coach Don Shula had to hitch hike home after the longest game in NFL history 50 years ago on Christmas.
I find it kinda ironic that Ted Marchibroda would be very upset over Louis Oliver's interception return to seal the game while also being elated that Steve Emtman did the same a year prior against the very same team.
The bigger question is where is jeff #kn george going with that pass? It was another three pick game for george. Dude was all arm, nothing upstairs. nfl scouts fell in love with that arm of george's without checking out his brain. And who cares? Not like anyone on colts attempted to even hit him as they had already given up that game. And in deshaun's eagles vs. g men game the clock was running out as he did that as it hit 0:00 in a now tie game with an x pt to come in a critical late season nfc east divisional game. Big difference between the two. And that was a 4-12 colt team that lost 11 of their last 13 games with an offense that scored a league low 189 pts.-that was '92 seahawkesque. And three of colts wins were by a 9-6 score.
It was stupid to hold the ball in one hand like that, but running lateral at that point was not a bad idea, not because of time but if he can bait the big O. Lineman into chasing him down he tires them out while they need to get back on the field after XP and KO. They didn't chase him though however doing that to get them to chase is worth the effort. Honestly the premise of this video is a reach at best and a gross exaggeration at worst, but the reason for the silly explanation he gave was that his celebration crossed a line with Shula. Don Shula wasn't a guy to rub an opponent's face in it like that and he wasn't going to be happy with Oliver after that kind of celebration
YOu never bothered to watch DeShaun Jackson did you? The clock was already at zero when he was at the 15. There was ZERO reason for doing what he did. AT ALL.

Gregg Easterbrook used to write an NFL column under the name Tuesday Morning Quarterback. After the Brandon Stokley touchdown shown in this video he said officials can blow a play dead if they believe the ball carrier isn’t trying to advance the ball. That explains why Stokley didn’t run all the time off the clock before going into the end zone.
I miss those old TNT games, SUNDAY NIGHT! Okay maybe he thought of running the clock out at 1st? However realized Shula would cut him if he pulled a Leon Lett and got caught. So he just scored instead. 😆
Actually this move makes a small amount of sense to me. Given the circumstances, taking a few extra seconds off the clock would’nt have mattered much, but I’ll admit I do this stuff in Madden all the time to cut down a couple more seconds
Maybe I'm a stupid dummy. But when I first watched it I thought that's what he was doing. And show boating. Even if it was pointless for him to do it. Doesn't mean he wasn't.
Haven't disagreed with one of these videos before but have to here. Before hearing his explanation, I had just assumed he'd done it to kill some clock, no reason not to when your ahead late in a game and no one is near you. It's the smart play, and one I feel like not enough players take advantage of, especially in situations where they have a multiple score lead. Who cares if the odds of it actually making a difference in the outcome are 0.001%, you lose nothing by doing it (again assuming no one is near you) and increase your teams odds of winning, the selfish thing is to just go straight for the endzone when you have something you can do which increases your teams chance of winning, however slightly. Now if the score was flipped, then you'd have something, even if your down a lot late, wasting even a few seconds of the clock to celebrate on your way to the end zone would be selfish and foolish. And if this was the first quarter, I'd also agree, it'd be way too early to know if wasting time on the clock would actually be helpful or harmful by games end, but late in the 4th quarter, this is a smart move, and its disappointing that he'd be mocked for doing it. This is like mocking some one for wearing a seat belt, maybe it'll never matter for you, maybe it will at some point but 99.9% of the time it won't, but when it costs you nothing to put it on, and there's even a small chance it could save your life, the smart thing to do is to do so.
@@matthewdaley746 Sorry, I'm not sure I get that analogy? Perhaps a better one would be a guy who is given a free lottery ticket and doesn't bother to check if its a winner because the odds of it being a winner are insanely low. Is it probably not a winning? Of course. But if you were given it for free, what does it hurt to take a couple seconds to check. Like the seat belt analogy, even that isn't a perfect analogy though since both putting on a seat belt or scratching a lottery ticket still costs you some amount of time, even if only 1-2 seconds, while running a couple extra seconds off the clock en-route to the touchdown cost nothing since those seconds would need to be run-off eventually anyway for the game to end.
🤣 Come on dude. There's some massive mental gymnastics there. They'd been kicking the other teams ass all night. He didn't think for a second they were coming back. He had a rare opportunity to score and decided to showboat a little bit. There's nothing wrong with that. But the idea he was killing clock up that big with 7+ to go and he only killed 4 seconds doing it? The way he executed it and the intelligence you're attributing to the thought process are contradictory. I'm not saying he was stupid or anything, far from it. He knew damn well they were going to win and decided to savor his moment of glory in sealing it. He was most likely fucking with reporters when he told them he was killing clock.
@@kyletucker3811 Whether or not he did it for a good reason (the reason he claims) or a neutral reason (the show boating your claiming based on the fact you think he's too selfish to have done such a smart play for the teams benefit?) I can not say with any certainty. All I can say is that its a smart play to kill the clock, even if only 4 seconds and even if your up multiple scores, when you have a lead late in a game, and I wish more players would do it when given the chance to safely do it (aka, only do it when no ones close enough to punish you for doing so). So even if your right, and it was just him celebrating, I still don't think it was a stupid celebration, I like celebrations in general, but celebrations which increase my teams odds of winning, even if only by 0.001%, that's the kind of "big brain" celebration I can really get behind.
He wanted to run out the clock as soon as possible and get out of there. The colts knew they couldn’t win and they also wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.
Why instead of 39.6 t-shirts which show the worst qb rating by just spiking the ball, better make 158.3 t-shirts that show the BEST qb rating that can be achieved in a single game.
I saw you link to your video about Duriel Harris. In that video this official CTubeMan historian will remind everyone he (or I) made a comment about Harris hyperextending his knee after scoring a touchdown against the Eagles in 1981.
I would say the stupidest celebration that Louis Oliver did was in 1992 on the sidelines vs. Buffalo Bills. This was the game that they won in Buffalo. He was mocking the Bills Shout song with Mark Clayton. He claimed in the post game interview that "He killed the Buffalo shot 'em in the head and wiped them off the prairie.
I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. In fact, this isn't a big deal. Nothing about this situation deserves this much attention or scrutiny. He didn't cost his team anything. I see why players sometimes get irritated with fans and the media because of nitpicking things of this nature.
He was a big hitter, I remember that but I'll always remember him complaining about $ when the Dolphins signed TE Keith Jackson as a Free Agent in 1992. Louis Oliver was OK but he seemed to have more potential than production.
To everyone commenting here... While it's true that the title of this video may be hyperbolic, saying that "oh, he was definitely killing clock" is asinine. There was something like 7 minutes left. He was showboating. Straight up. I'm not passing judgement on that fact; it is, however, a fact. And whether or not Oliver was "trolling" anyone, well... if he was, it was weak and pointless to everyone but himself. But hey, no problem, he did his thing, watching Reed, Lofton, and Beebe run by him and Jarvis, time and time again 🙂
I'm going to go with he did show boat but he got a ear full from a teammate or coach about it and told him not to rub it in. At least he made it about helping his team. how can you be mad about that?
Disagree only because he stalled a few seconds to think whether or not it would be worth it to waste the clock. Then realized it wouldn't be worth the risk. But going into the play he's thinking about the defense he has to play. Not consciously deciding before play "if I catch it I should run some off the clock " he got the interception broke away. Had a couple seconds to decide would it be better to down it at the 1 to waste time before a field goal to make it likely but not guaranteed 3 possession game with 5 minutes left as opposed to guaranteed 3 possession game with 7 minutes left. And he chose the guarantee. He had the time to make that decision so why not take the couple extra seconds to weigh the decision over. The 3 seconds were NOT to run 3 seconds off the clock, but to decide whether or not to score or put clock management in their favor.
This was the end of the meaningful portion of the game. Fewer plays from there on out means less fatigue and fewer chances for injuries. Oliver did nothing wrong.
Your last sentence is totally correct. But the first bit trying to rationalize it and act like he was actually killing clock is just ridiculous. He showboated, big deal. He was also probably messing with the reporter by saying he was killing clock. I bet you if we actually saw a clip of him saying that he'd be grinning and chuckling.
Everybody wants to bash and trash the Dolphins these days, don't they? At least this time it's not the usual "they're only winning by luck and Tua is still horrible so they should trade for Watson in the offseason anyway!" media garbage. But I see the Law Of Attraction's working overtime in the comments so I won't pile on. I for one will still watch, like, and stay subbed. Everybody's entitled to one slip up/off day. Except for Tua, apparently.
I don't think the celly was stupid. I have no problem with it at all. It's the explanation Oliver gave for it that was dumb. Draining only a few seconds wouldn't have made much difference with 7 minutes left in regulation.
I always liked Louis Oliver; he had an attitude about the Bills due to being burned in the 1990 divisional playoffs (look, the 1990 Bills were burning everyone, and that Giants game was a matchup nightmare for them, and they STILL almost won), so I was happy for him having that game in 1992 in Orchard Park (riding all rhe Buffaloes back to Miami; good one, Mr. Oliver). I think Louis Oliver was being irreverent with his comment about running out the clock; Oliver was a character, so I'm not surprised he said what he said (I like to explain things, but I used to give out baffling explanations myself, mostly because I'm mercurial & enigmatic 😈).
The 1993 Dolphins at the end of the season would have loved to have Marino if he didn't have that injury. They just fell apart after the Dallas win. Going from 9-2 to to 9-7 and missing the playoffs. Just one win out of the 5 games would have gotten them in. They the 93 Dolphins are the only team to go 9-2 and still not make the playoffs.
It wasn't Marino's injury that did them in, not by a long shot. It was the backup getting hurt too, as well as at least half the starting D and some of THEIR backups. Then there was the back-loaded schedule that saw them face 3 straight playoff teams. And even THEN it took OT in the 5th game for the shambling corpse to finally expire.
Claypool's celly late in his Steelers' loss in Minneapolis was definitely worse. The Steelers were trailing with less than a minute left and the clock running and he celebrated the 1st down until one of his teammates got the ball from him to do a spike play. Claypool then had the nerve to complain to said teammate after the spike.
Specifically, it's a passer rating for throwing all incomplete passes without any interceptions, which, of course, includes spiking the ball. All incompletions with at least one interception would mean a zero rating.
We know what happened. A conversation with Don Schula is probably what happened. I hadn't thought about Tom Olivadottti in years..one of the coolest last names this then 12 yr thought
This was the time when Shula lost control of his players, though. He had no idea how to deal with GenXers. Remember, it was just 2 seasons later that Shula was driven out.
Running out of stories? Because this one is a bit of a stretch. Maybe Don Shula isn't a fan of that type of showboating when technically the play is still going so Louis Oliver just made something up on the fly when asked. Kind of like when Colin Kaepernick was asked why he was sitting for the National Anthem and he just made something up on the fly about protesting police brutality, then stuck with it because admitting he lied would make him look bad to everyone.
This is a bit of a reach. Overreacting to his celebration? Really. All he did was run diagonally and say he wanted to kill clock. Not a huge deal.

I thought the waddle celebration last night looked pretty dumb. Like why did 5 grown men have to do that 😂
I saw you link to your video about Duriel Harris. In that video this official CTubeMan historian will remind everyone he (or I) made a comment about Harris hyperextending his knee after scoring a touchdown against the Eagles in 1981.
CTubeMan; Now THAT was a dumb celebration - Harris actually injured himself - on MNF too, I believe. Ouch!
@@denisceballos9745 IKR? The Oliver thing wasn't even close to being as dumb as that.
Keith Byars has the biggest thighs I've ever seen in person.
Should take this one down my man. This isnt it
I thought that's what he was trying to do anyway.
Stranger things have happened in the NFL.
We’ve all seen miraculous comebacks in the NFL and those 3 seconds may comeback to bite you in the ass.
So what? Lame take dude.
Generally really love his content, but this is definitely a weak one.
This celebration DOESN'T EVEN RATE a 39.6. The Miami Dolphins should just SPIKE the football into the ground on EVERY single OFFENSIVE play!!!!!
And the Emmy for Greatest Emotional Overreaction goes to...
Generally really love your content, but this is a stretch of a complaint.
Dear Louis Oliver, don't be afraid, BE A MAN! PUT YOUR NAME ON IT!-Herm Edwards #WarYOUPLAYTOWINTHEGAME!
Any plans to cover Matt Dodge, the punter who managed to kill the Giants season? Tons to work with.
If the game was on TNT wouldn't it have less people watching than if it were on CBS, FOX, ABC or NBC?
If you don’t want to see a defensive player celebrating, then you don’t throw an interception in the first place.
Hey man. I’ve done that one madden before. For that reason. You never know. Those 2-5 seconds off the clock could make a difference. Lol
Everybody who plays Madden does this. It's routine and expected.
CONGRATZ ON 25k JAG!
I was today years old when I found out that TNT used to have football.
Players does this all the time. It's called entertainment just like on the reverse side of all NFL tickets.
ENTERTAINMENT is to be detained
I'm not sure why this is such a big deal. In fact, this isn't a big deal. Nothing about this situation deserves this much attention or scrutiny. He didn't cost his team anything. I see why players sometimes get irritated with fans and the media because of nitpicking things of this nature.
Jeff George loves “wine.”
He was a big hitter, I remember that but I'll always remember him complaining about $ when the Dolphins signed TE Keith Jackson as a Free Agent in 1992. Louis Oliver was OK but he seemed to have more potential than production.
I remember Warren Moon doing sideline reporting on TNT SNF!
Ridiculously take dude. He wasn't the first to do that and hasn't been the last 🙄
To everyone commenting here...
The voice audio on this channel is subpar. You should consider upgrading your equipment.
He would have been better spiking the ball every time he intercepted the pass than doing what he did
Would have LITERALLY been better off.....
Silly perhaps, but harmless.
I always liked him too. Him and Brian Cox brought the Miami defense the attitude they were sorely lacking for so long.
It can't be as bad as chase claypool
Claypool's celly late in his Steelers' loss in Minneapolis was definitely worse. The Steelers were trailing with less than a minute left and the clock running and he celebrated the 1st down until one of his teammates got the ball from him to do a spike play. Claypool then had the nerve to complain to said teammate after the spike.
I aint too sure about this one... Kinda seems like a stretch
Can I have those 5 min back please? What a ridiculous video
Does anyone know what the 39.6 means? This may have been answered before and it seems like a marathon distance or something but I don’t know
Specifically, it's a passer rating for throwing all incomplete passes without any interceptions, which, of course, includes spiking the ball. All incompletions with at least one interception would mean a zero rating.
Dude ease up, maybe in the excitement of the moment Oliver threw out the NFL protocol manual.
Nice video hope you get to a million subscribers in the future.
13 minutes for 1 play
Running out of stories? Because this one is a bit of a stretch. Maybe Don Shula isn't a fan of that type of showboating when technically the play is still going so Louis Oliver just made something up on the fly when asked. Kind of like when Colin Kaepernick was asked why he was sitting for the National Anthem and he just made something up on the fly about protesting police brutality, then stuck with it because admitting he lied would make him look bad to everyone.
And now I'm not watching another one of your videos. Ranting of a mad man here.
Making this video makes no sense
