That’s the question I’m always asked! 😂 (It’s definitely a legitimate thing to be concerned about.) Neither of those was ever an issue for me. If you use soft fabric and thread, it’s no problem at all. :)

I just made 6 pairs for my sister-in-law, who is due to have her baby this month. I used PUL and quilting cotton in the lining for extra protection. They are so cute!
You can definitely use flannel for both sides, and even for all of the layers. You'll just want to be aware of how much leaking is happening, and when the pads are starting to become saturated or you'll leak all the way through onto your clothes.
I love these! My only question is, will the center seam cause chaffing on tender nipples?

Hello, if PU L is used and zigzagged across, will that area leak
