  • Welcome to the WarDragon, your all-in-one solution for software-defined radio (SDR) enthusiasts! In this video, I'll walk you through setting up two powerful tools, SDRTrunk and Trunk-Recorder, to effortlessly monitor P25 Phase II networks.
** It was brought to my attention that I should point out that you should check your local laws and regulations when it comes to listening to public and emergency services unencrypted communications. **
First up, we'll dive into configuring SDRTrunk to harness the full potential of your Airspy R2 SDR, utilizing its impressive 10MHz wide capability. With SDRTrunk, you'll be able to seamlessly track talk channels by simply inputting the control frequency.
Next, I'll demonstrate the swift installation process of Trunk-Recorder. With just one additional package installation and a quick JSON config file setup, you'll be ready to decode and record audio from a P25 network effortlessly.
Unrelated, but still important, I'll troubleshoot an issue I noticed when connecting to a headless CyberEther instance. A simple fix involving removing a specific .bin file from the gstreamer directory and restarting CyberEther resolved the issue I was seeing.
Join me on the WarDragon as we unlock the full potential of SDR technology and revolutionize your monitoring experience.

Hey, I am a lab engineer and I have been using dragon in OS in teaching for all our SDR projects to by pass the lengthy driver installation process. Thank you so much for all the hard work that has enabled us to jumpstart our lectures, your efforts are highly appreciated.

That’s really awesome to hear! If there’s any pictures or details you’d be able to share for posting that’d be great, if not no biggie just hearing it’s being used is great!

@@cemaxecuter7783 Certainly, I assigned my students a two step project. The first step was about building an FM voice transceiver using gnuradio where one USRP acted as the TX and an RTL SDR as the RX. The second step covered the same topic but using digital modulation with receiver synchronization. Again, I really cannot emphasize how achieving this was basically impossible due to the limited time we had and the complexity of getting gnuradio and other softwares configured on my student’s computers before the term has passed. Thank you so much for all the amazing work.

I've been looking to install Trunking Recorder as well as RDIO Scanner to my DragonOS rig to supplement SDRTrunk. I looked in my /usr/src directory for Trunking Recorder and didn't find it. Different directory?? I'm running a fairly recent DragonOS installation...probably within the last 2-3 months. Thanks!

Oh gotcha, that’s my bad I don’t think I installed it native yet. Thank you for the reminder! I’ll make another package tonight. Meantime just type sudo apt install sdrtrunk. You should pull it from my ppa.

Oh I see, yes I would say doing things I show in some videos outside of a lab/research environment is probably not allowed in some countries.

are there any laws in different countries for what your showing in your youtube channel is it legal to show this everyone can do bad stuff just to buy or build the hardware like this and do really badstuff

It’s the same thing you can do when purchasing a scanner. The transmissions are not encrypted. Still, I would check your local laws and regulations. Maybe in your country it’s not legal to own a police or emergency service scanner and/or listen to unencrypted public services. I probably should’ve mentioned that in the description. There’s many videos on TH-cam about how to setup SDRTrunk, OP25, and Trunk Recorder.
