Yes, cats sometimes howl too, dogs are just more famous for it. And not every dog howls either. While they are obviously different. canines and felines do have some similarities.
Stray cats were a retro band when I was a kid . Brian Seltzer. The singer an guitarist also went on to be the leader of the Brian Seltzer orchestra. He's a very talented gentleman

Vanguard had tradition.
When they scored a bunch of points, the fans would say: “We Are Vanguard!”

I was so blessed to be able to see the Brian Setzer orchestra at the San Diego fair doing the orchestra thing and I was also lucky enough to have seen them twice at the Greek theater for the Christmas concert... it was the most amazing time of my life besides making love for the first time when your mom LOL...

Half, I take it you've never heard a cat howl at night. Stray Cats (along with lead singer Brian Setzer) were on the forefront of the retro "swing" (actually jump blues) revolution of the 1980s-1990s and had a successful solo career later (in the 1990s). This song was such a great vibe.

I really like the Stray Cats because they were a different kind of band for the eighties! They had a sound and a style that was reminiscent of the 1950’s! I enjoyed their videos and energetic live performances! Lead singer Brian Setzer went on to form the Brian Setzer Orchestra, after the Stray Cats disbanded, which was a throwback to the big band era! I’ve seen the Stray Cats and Brian Setzer’s Orchestra and he’s always been great. Can sing a melody while soloing which isn’t an easy task.
Brian Setzer, the lead singer and guitarist, has had an amazing musical career spanning over 4 decades… he single-handedly revived rockabilly in the early 80’s. And the revived big band/ swing in the 90’s. There are too many great songs to recommend here but, In the mood by Brian Setzer orchestra , The dirty boogie, My baby only cares for me, and many others are worth a listen….glad I subscribed…..!
Great comment! He is also credited with influencing the Ska movement of the late 80's through the 90's with bands like the Mighty Mighty Bosstones who incorperated the rockabilly sound into a lot of their songs. Chicago was also a major influence on the Bosstones as they utilized the horn section as heard from songs like 25 or 6 to 4.
Try listening to "Rock This Town" by Stray Cats... another good one... also, "Zoot Suit Riot" by The Cherry Poppin' Daddies!!
Yea for a brief time in the late 90's, Swing music came back into style. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy did very well. But don't forget that the lead singer of Stray Cats here, Brian Setzer, had another band in the late 90's that was also doing Swing music right along side BBVD... The Brian Setzer Orchestra.

A "cat" was a cool guy back in the day. And a "stray" was a single guy, no money, trying to make it in the world. The song is about a cool guy who doesn't let his circumstances get him down. He is still impressed with himself ... and apparently he thinks the lady cats are too😂❤🎉

These guys resurrected the Rockabilly genre, taking on the old school 50s with such a cool twist. I’m a classic rock guy but this is great music. Brian Setzer is a fantastic guitarist & we’re hoping to get to see his show later this year! 🤘😎

Alien Fashion Show, Atomic Fireballs, Cherry Poppin Daddies, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Stray Cats were the major artists in the "Swing" revival period. I personally preferred the Squirrel Nut Zippers. If want another twist check out Post Modern Jukebox. They take modern songs and re-imagine them as oldies (50's 60's). Nothing like hearing All About that Bass, Creep, Gangsta's Paradise done up like a 1920's or 1930's big band song.

Half & Jai, if y'all never heard a cat howl, it is something serious!! They don't howl like a dog, but damn, it sound extra evil when they do it. And it always, pretty much at night.. cause that's when cats prowl & hunt & get it on. This sound usually comes right before or DURING the latter. And once u hear that, u ain't gon forget it!

I remember watching a cartoon as a kid in the late 60's called "Top Cat." Don't recall a whole lot about it, but I do believe the characters were all "stray cats."
Oh try Rumble In Brighton, Double Talkin' Baby. Played drums in a rockabilly band back then. We had a great time. That music is so fun. Jitterbug city. Girls loved it.

Y’all probably to young to realize but back in the late 70s early 80s there was and underground Rockabilly revival with a bit of a twist. Look at the nostalgia at the time for the 50s. Happy Days, Grease, and even Lenny and Squiggy as characters in Laverne and Shirley. All were 50s references but were weak examples by mainstream media to tap into the zeitgeist of the underground subculture that was revival Rockabilly and punk influenced Psychobilly. The Stray Cats were a real deal example of a longing for an imagined interpretation of a time that was AT THE TIME just a couple of decades past.
This was the first tape I ever asked for and I played this song on repeat on my Fisher Price tape recorder in the school playground 😆

I heard a story about when the Stray Cats were forming the band and they wanted to make that 50s early 60s sound (this was in the 80s) and they looked at pictures of the old bands and realized that the bands were a guitar, a bass and drums. Their whole bib was a throw back to that era. Brian Seltzer, the lead singer, has moved on to big band type of music and is a mean guitarist.

The Lyrics aren't literal. Think of the phrase "catting around town". I.E. looking for partners to get it on. He is making the connection to how Cats have that attitude of how good they are no matter the conditions, a certain savoire faire. He's equating himself to that same attitude of a Tom Cat Alleycat.
