WHYYYY did this character have to die so early. I know that only then Michael could become the Godfather, but still. Sonny was a LEGEND. Sure, he had affairs and stuff, but most gangsters weren't devoted to their marriage.
I think the reason that Sonny appeals to everyone is that he is far more "American" than Fredo or Michael (even Tom is more "Sicilian" than Sonny)...he comes across as "angry 1940's American guy" who just happens to be of Sicilian descent. Still my favorite character in the movie...he was all about family (would have NEVER had Fredo killed no matter how bad he screwed up!) and probably would have gotten snuffed out anyway later on. Modern times would have left him behind .....he was "old school"
he was my favorite Godfathers character and I know its just the book/film but I am really sorry about him. Maybe little bit snapper, maybe little bit aggresive, hurried and heedless but he was still the oldest son of Godfather. Like a man he was hmmm big...bigger...the biggest :) and very flaming. he had a lot of mistake but he was not bad man.....it was just a job. And he loved his family...his father...his brothers and his little sister..... I really like him...
ElBroncodelNorte Nope Vito would've made sure Michael wasn't involved in the family business. He would end up being senator Corleone or governor Corleone
They shoulda made Fredo the new Don. He's smart. He can handle things. Not dumb. He was smart and he wanted respect. Instead they had him picking up somebody at the airport or running some Mickey Mouse nightclub......LOL.
Santino was not a reasonable thinking character. But if he were in Michael's position he would have never had Fredo killed. He, I'm sure would have kicked his ass or smacked him good and called him an idiot but never would he have had him killed!
@packard400n "Why doesn't he Just Blast who ever is in the God damn car" "Sollozzo might no even be in the car Sonny" I love that scene because it shows his Impulsive and quick thinking lead to his downfall, and that there were a lot of things that could go wrong doing what he thought would be good. Ola And Hyman Roth would set him easier than they did in New york. Because his temper dictated his next move (continued)
He is not the greater gangster ever been, but he was real brodher and every one of will be happy to has one broher like sony. He was payed me for ever in 1974 or 67 . I co out cinema hall becose he was died .....
@packard400 Yeah, He is the only one of the sons with a Brooklyn accent, In the Book Michael was supposed to be the most American one. But Francis wanted Sonny to be the most American Looking son. Your right about Sonny and Fredo. He would've beat the living shit out of him. Then banished him from the family or disowned him. What makes Sonny your favorite Character>
Michael is my fave (because is played by Al), but I love Santino too, I just can't decide.Anyway, I'm crazy and I would love to be part of this famiy - a wife of Michael or Santino, not a sister, because they are too atractive.
@bryanosb The Corleones would have been whacked. Michael was smart and cunning. He bided his time and knew how to talk. Sonny was awfully predictable and always let his fiery temper get the better out of him. His enemies were all too aware of this and therefore easily lured him into this trap. Liko Vito himself said to Michael:"I think Santino, rest his soul, was a bad don."
What do you think this like the Army where you can shoot 'em from a mile away? No you gotta get up like this and, badda-bing, you blow their brains all over your nice Ivy League suit. C'mer...You're taking this very personal. Tom, this is business and this man is taking it very, very personal.
Sonny would never fight Rocky because Rocky would never treat Connie the way Carlo did. We know this because Adrienne Balboa and Connie Corleone Rizzi were both played by Talia Shire.
@lordvoldemort578 ...he had a good heart, and even though he was impulsive, he had "street smarts" but unfortunately he was not forward thinking in his decisions (re: the Sollozzo meeting....."so why don't we just blast whoevers in the f**king car??").......he was not 'book smart' like his younger brother, and as the "game" got more complex, he would have got left behind.........(Hyman Roth and Johnny Ola would have snuffed him out in short order in the second movie.....)
@lordvoldemort578 Then I'll have four kids I guess. However, the natural occurrences of that happening are rare LOL. I mean, if I have twins I have twins. I'm just saying our plan is for one. But as we all know, things don't always go according to plan.
@fifimsp Isn't that the fuckin truth.. Nothing Happens Like you want it to. ESPECIALLY if you wanted it to..lol. If your plan is for one that's fine...Don't have to divide up all the love with a bunch of other kids I guess lol. I wish yous the best of luck.
I really like the character, but I would argue that he was not the greatest gangster ever. Hotheaded, aggressive, and too easy to judge and manipulate emotionally. Hence his assassination. Just sayin.
ehh nice college boy didnt wanna get involved in the family business now you wanna gun down a police captain cause he slapped you in the face a little what you think this is the army where you shoot them from a mile away, you got to get em like this and POW! all over your nice suit. tom this is business and this man is taking it personal

I loved the following exchange in GF3 between Mary and Vincent:
M: "What do you know about Sonny?"
V: "He was Prince of the city"
IDOL Santino corleone THE BEST BROTHER
my favorite characters
1) Santino Corleone
2) Pete Clemenza
3) Vincent Mancini
4) Michael & Vito Corleone ( because they are like ONE person)
lmao! im with u!!!! Sonny is the man!!!
I think the reason that Sonny appeals to everyone is that he is far more "American" than Fredo or Michael (even Tom is more "Sicilian" than Sonny)...he comes across as "angry 1940's American guy" who just happens to be of Sicilian descent. i would hire santino as my bodyguard :)
Sonny was the balls of the family but ones Vito was wounded he wanted to go to war with everyone he was to explosive
That's Slash from guns n roses playing the Godfather theme on guitar.
he was my favorite Godfathers character and I know its just the book/film but I am really sorry about him. Sonny kicked the stuff out of that guy....Now That is a beatdown
he was the sexiest & hottest of the Corleone brothers...love Sonny
y can't i forget these scenes?... santino
If Sonny wouldn't have died he would've become the new Don and Michael would be his consigliere or underboss
They could've had that story run for a little while. That would've been an amazing thing to watch. Alas.
ElBroncodelNorte
Nope Vito would've made sure Michael wasn't involved in the family business. He would end up being senator Corleone or governor Corleone

UHULLLLL DEMAIS DEMAISSS! :D
Nice
I would've like to seen what would happen to the Corleone family if Michael was the one gunned down at this toll, and Sonny had taken the throne :)
que buen video¡¡¡
Sonny reminds me of Tony Soprano. They both have that same hotheaded personality.
@fifimsp Nice ,and if you two have three male kids ,what would the other two be .
i cried when sonny died :(
rip santino barzini
@RockyWhyNot Yeah, it's the one male name my husband and I both agree on. If we have a son, we're going to name it Santino.
Santino was not a reasonable thinking character. But if he were in Michael's position he would have never had Fredo killed. He, I'm sure would have kicked his ass or smacked him good and called him an idiot but never would he have had him killed!

@appelsinpikenn Oh, too bad he died so early, my favorite character
Oh and I got dog names Sonny because the girl, who got him before me was reading Godfather when my Sonny was born :D
He is not the greater gangster ever been, but he was real brodher and every one of will be happy to has one broher like sony. He was payed me for ever in 1974 or 67 . I co out cinema hall becose he was died .....
@appelsinpikenn all the girls like Sonny but what is it about him?
@fifimsp Why not a lot of kids?
i apoligize..how could i forget
That's not Sonny at 0:36 that's Carlo
that's Carlo beating up connie not Santino
@fifimsp Oh yeah? three Kids wouldn't be too bad...What if you had Quadruplets?
@packard400 Yeah, He is the only one of the sons with a Brooklyn accent, In the Book Michael was supposed to be the most American one. But Francis wanted Sonny to be the most American Looking son. @manufran02 We aren't having more than one kid unless I get pregnant with twins or something, and we're actually both hope we have a girl, so...
If He and Rocky Balbo fought in a street fight, no doubt that Santino Corleone would win, I mean just look at the way he mauled Carlos Rizzi
Sonny would never fight Rocky because Rocky would never treat Connie the way Carlo did.
We know this because Adrienne Balboa and Connie Corleone Rizzi were both played by Talia Shire.

@NotYourAverageJoe321
I just want. I can't explain.
Not "pow" but "Bada Bing".
dude its a movie ...
they're just characters
why shouldnt you think that a movie character is cool?
@fifimsp Isn't that the fuckin truth.. Nothing Happens Like you want it to. ESPECIALLY if you wanted it to..lol.
If your plan is for one that's fine...Don't have to divide up all the love with a bunch of other kids I guess lol. I wish yous the best of luck.
@embryo923 I wish my big bro woulda felt that way :)
@fifimsp because kids cost money, they tax the earth, I work with behavior disorder kids so don't want a lot. Lots of reasons. And I'm over 30. So.
@lovefornylonfeet He would've beat the shit out of him and disowned him from the family. But kill him? no... there is lines you dont cross.
@AprenticeQuim no
Died because Mario Puzo said so!
I really like the character, but I would argue that he was not the greatest gangster ever. Hotheaded, aggressive, and too easy to judge and manipulate emotionally. Hence his assassination. Just sayin.
