Massive combo for your Titania deck. Perilous Forays, rampaging baloths and Earthcraft. Get all your lands from the deck. tons of etb and dies triggers too
I always had the mindset that Abzan was the "proper" way to make tokens (usually to sacrifice them). Naya was the poor man's way to make tokens (usually for on field effects). Both can go agro if needed though.
I like Xenagos, the Reveler better than Garruk Wildspeaker in this deck. He ramps and protects himself just like Garruk, but his +1 in a token deck is bonkers, and he creates tokens as a 0 ability rather than as a -1. In my experience he doesn't draw a lot of hate, either.
The Command Zone I would also recommend extra combat steps (World at War, Aggravated Assault, Aurelia the Warleader, and Hellkite Charger). that way you can get the tokens from Rith then turn around and attack again with your newly formed tokens, esp if you have ways to give them haste (which is useless for the Rith tokens otherwise)
egyptcraze If you listen to the end of the episode I actually recommend changing the commander to Gahiji. Stays in the same color but means he always has access to a token pumper and can concentrate the rest of the deck on making tokens.
I think your early ramp is too dependent on having tokens as fodder. You want to be able to cast, say a Cultivate/Kodama's Reach and ramp on T3 regardless of your board state.
Does Spawning Pit with Ashnod's Alter go infinite with Doubling Season? Seems like you could sac a creature to put two counters on the Spawning Pit, then spend one mana to create two tokens, sac them to get four colourless mana and put four counters on Spawning Pit and just get higher from there?
If you have trouble pronouncing Citanul, you could just use its name sake. It's just Lunatic backwards :-D There's quite a few cards like that. (Larry Niven's Disk for example)
Yeah that's my bad. I'm old school and the original howling mines didn't have that text on it. Heat of the moment we sometimes say stupid stuff. It's one of the hazards of having hours of your discussions recorded and analyzed every week. Apologies.
Josh Lee Kwai no need to apologize. Sorry if that came off as mean. I really love the show, watch every single episode. I just thought it was kinda funny.
Connor Martin There are a bunch. Crosis, Treva, Dromar...there's one for each color (meaning the activated cost of the ability) although I can't name them all off the top of my head.
Teneb, the Harvester. (Abzan) Numot, the Devastator (Jeskai) Vorosh, the Hunter (Sultai) Oros, the Avenger (Mardu) Intet, the Dreamer (Temur) That is the new cycle from Planar Chaos (Time Spiral Block). Then the original cycle is from Invasion (Invasion Block) Dromar, the Banisher (Esper) Treva, the Renewer (Bant) Rith, the Awakener (Naya) Crosis, the Purger (Grixis) Darigaaz, the Igniter (Jund) Sorry for the late reply I only just saw your comment ;)
Fecundity is NOT a world enchantment. It's just an enchantment that affects everyone. There can be as many of these type of enchantments as you want. The difference between this and a world enchantment is that there can only be one world enchantment at a time. If I had a Concordant Crossroads ( gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=1519 ) then someone played a Revelation ( gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=2835 ) the Crossroads would be sacrificed for no longer being the most recently played world enchantment.
Azza Tylee No, as far as I know world enchantments are still considered such and the world rule still applies. I mean yes they are still enchantments but they have the supertype world, which in commander is important.
Since Josh seems to have the impression that attacking each opponent with 3 creatures while Overwhelming Instinct is on the field draws you a card for each, it doesn't. You only get one card, when you finish declaring your attackers, if you have 3 or more attackers.
thecamodo No I knew this. I did not mean to imply otherwise. I was just saying it's a card that does draw cards that's mediocre but still playable in a budget deck. I basically felt bad because a lot of the cards I was suggesting are not super cheap.
Welp,I guess after this episode I have no chances to get my deck doctored, it commonly has almoust same problems as this one and it's commander is also a Dragon(not from this cycle though). Anyway, looking for next episodes!
I havn't had a chance to watch the whole vid yet, but when I checked that AFTER decklist it shows Gahiji, the Honored One as the commander. Is that intentional?
Since you guys suggested that they should change the commander would you be willing to do another deck doctors on a Rith deck prehaps one with a more political theme to it?
This is a great deck doctor for a Gahiji deck, but a lot of what you're adding here doesn't make as much sense for Rith. Awakening Zone, for example, great card, but makes colorless permanents, which don't sync up as well with Rith. If you want to make a Rith deck, you could also try a voltron build that helps him get through with commander damage, and then use sac outlets for value for the saprolings.
Josh Lee Kwai To clarify on Hierophants, the word means "Revealer of Sacred things" etymologically, and is pronounced like hierarchy (which in Australia at least is pronounced higher-arkee) because the word hierarchy originally came from the sacred arrangement of the biblical angels (ie. seraphi < angels < archangels).
Totally disagree about Kodama's reach and its ilk. Those spells are great because lands are rarely removed while the Heirophants are fragile advantage soon wiped from the board. Love your cast!!
The Command Zone While we are on the topic of tokens, I recently had my Ulasht the Hate Seed Deck featured on the CMDRDecks TH-cam channel (you can watch it here if you guys are interested: th-cam.com/video/XyHAi_-dLhI/w-d-xo.html) I want to add in Squirrel Nest and Market Festival eventually, to get more tokens going, but I'm overall happy with it! :D
Strongly disagree with your viewpoints on Glare of Subdual. That card is bonkers. You seem to only focus on worst-case scenario with it out. What if it just happens to win me the game? I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around.
Watching this 9 years later and still getting value!❤
You guys got the noise balance of the living cards, keep doing a great job!
Massive combo for your Titania deck. Perilous Forays, rampaging baloths and Earthcraft. Get all your lands from the deck. tons of etb and dies triggers too
TemporalMeteor Add in any of the token doublers and youve gone...not infinite, but as close as you can get. hmmm
four, four episodes of command zone listened to today! :-)
I have always liked saproling burst with doubling season. On its own it is pretty good as well.
I always had the mindset that Abzan was the "proper" way to make tokens (usually to sacrifice them). Naya was the poor man's way to make tokens (usually for on field effects). Both can go agro if needed though.
I use Ashnod's Altar in my Sek'kuar, Deathkeeper deck. Mikaeus and persist creatures make that REAL fun.
Another great video. I'm going to submit my Varolz deck tonight

Josh Lee Kwai i did hear that. I was thinking about what he might do if he decided not to take your advice on swapping out the general
What is the name of the card for the art with the face that has blood running down under her chin? It shows after crusader of odric.
I think your early ramp is too dependent on having tokens as fodder. You want to be able to cast, say a Cultivate/Kodama's Reach and ramp on T3 regardless of your board state.
48:09 - what happened to the card size? :P

Also, Howling Mine specifically does care if it's tapped or untapped. Of all the things you could have named

Could you guys do a podcast on best EDH utility cards / creatures?
What are the other dragons in that cycle you were talking about? I only know Deneb, Intet, and Rith.
Connor Martin There are a bunch. Crosis, Treva, Dromar...there's one for each color (meaning the activated cost of the ability) although I can't name them all off the top of my head.

John Smith You weren't alone in noticing that. have to admit it was annoying to hear them call it a world enchantment.... rant approved.
John Smith Yeah this was just a bad choice of wording. Jimmy meant simply that it's an enchantment that affects your opponents as well.
+John Smith World Enchantments have been Oracle'd to "Enchantments" now anyway :) The type doesn't exist any more. Essentially the same thing now.
Azza Tylee No, as far as I know world enchantments are still considered such and the world rule still applies. I mean yes they are still enchantments but they have the supertype world, which in commander is important.
yup
Does citanual get replaced with cryptolith rite?

Yep, just clearing that up. Catering towards budget players (like me) is appreciated :)
Is there a reason to use citanuel over cryptolithic rite?
Ohh nvm, this episode was before SOI. I'm an idiot sandwich.
Welp,I guess after this episode I have no chances to get my deck doctored, it commonly has almoust same problems as this one and it's commander is also a Dragon(not from this cycle though).

Ferdi the Tank Send in one of you other decks! We encourage multiple submissions.

BloodLegaZ Totally intentional.

Si-Tan-Ool Hi-Roh-Font
TemporalMeteor I was close to saying it correctly at least a couple of times...I think. :-P
2 am, time to start
howling mines cares!!
Why not play this commander on actual game nights or extra turn series
Totally disagree about Kodama's reach and its ilk. Those spells are great because lands are rarely removed while the Heirophants are fragile advantage soon wiped from the board. Love your cast!!
I will defend Endgame (based solely on the performance of the actor playing the villain) he did his damnedest lol.
As a note, Rith is a female.
Funny, the german translations says its a "he", although she clearly isn't. Seems like someone in translating didn't do their job :D
You showed ghostly possession not ghostly prison!!!!
John Evers Whoops. Sometimes if we don't enunciate well then Eli gets confused as to what card we're talking about...
Strongly disagree with your viewpoints on Glare of Subdual. That card is bonkers. You seem to only focus on worst-case scenario with it out. What if it just happens to win me the game? I'd rather have it and not need it than the other way around.
Haha 69
RainMasterXD I came to this episode just because of the number but there where no comments until I scrolled all the way to the bottom
Farst
*she* Rith is female.
Rith is a she.
