If RHCP's style is what they love the most, why would they want to play stuff that sounds totally different? It is like if you loved pizza so much that you decided to start your own chinese restaurant.
Besides, these guys are just doing what they love, nothing more. I doubt they are trying to get a record contract or anything like that.
RHCP is just the main influence -they love that style of music so whats wrong with taking that style and adding their own ideas to it? They are awesome.
