With the basic version you can't build your own characters, correct (pro and up are needed)?
CTA3 looks great, I hope though that both the keyframe editing (and saving/exporting lipsync keys)
and the lipsyncing options improve (like being able to have much more expressive mouth shapes
or create your own and also an option to input text by keyboard without using text-to-speech, just to
edit keys with an existing audio track).
- Yes, you will need PRO above to build the character.
- The standard version is meant to give the quick access to use the premade content from the library without much editing effort required.
- Pro and Pipeline versions provide more advanced features to serve different levels of the purpose and production needs.
- Create G3 Characters Directly from PSD Format is also possible from the upcoming release of v3.1 PIPELINE version.

Does anyone know what software I can use to animate drawings drawn on paper
This would work as well as any other animator that uses bones, you just need to cut the characters from the background in something like gimp or Photoshop, then export them without a background to use in these animation programs.

If you haven't already done it, create an account at reallusion.com. Log in, register whatever version of CTA that you've already got, visit the Reallusion Store and they'll tell you what upgrade options are available to you based on your existing version. That's what I did recently to upgrade from the Mac App Store version of the standard version of CTA2 to get to CTA3 Pro.
