  • Is Foxhole worth playing in 2022? This video provides an in depth look at the gameplay to help you make an informed decision.
    If you enjoy Strategy and World War Two games you may have heard of Foxhole. This game has intense front line combat, and detailed logistics, with a variety of roles there's surely something for everyone.
    If the idea of a 24/7 persistent war interests you, with a deep set of mechanics akin to a 4x strategy title such as Hearts of Iron 4, communication and squad play of Hell Let Loose and top down view of Company of Heroes, then Foxhole is worth a closer look. But is it worth the money? Is it worth the time it would take to learn the various mechanics?

    00:20 60 second summary
    01:36 A brief history

    12:24 A word of caution...
    13:19 Money money money! How much?
    13:48 Final summary - who will enjoy Foxhole?
    I'm a big strategy game fan, any game with tanks, planes, and BIG BATTLES will get my attention, but does Foxhole get the mix right? I've purchased the game and played it for many hours to help you decide, is Foxhole worth it? We look at all aspects of the game, the big picture, the small picture, the game mechanics, and how it compares to other games such as Hell Let Loose and Company of Heroes.

    There were so many other details I could have included in this amazing, huge, bombastic war game. The more you carry, the slower you move and eventually you end up falling over! Each time you reload you expend the whole magazine, so choose wisely! Have you been considering Foxhole? It's not right for everyone, but strategy and shooty war fans should seriously consider it, especially in the next sale! Any questions, let me know :)

    I love this game so much; it's so addicting which makes time go so fast. The only major problem I had is that I attended a war (war 83) from start to finish for a month with friends; we logged in everyday and averaged 8hrs a day and when the war finally came to an end with almost 300 hours in just one war; we became so burnt out that we weren't able to play the game for half a year.

    I have been playing this for 2 days…. This is the military game I have been looking for all my life. I am no good at it, it’s extremely overwhelming… but sitting on the front lines, watching the ebb and flow of the gaining of territory, coupled with the rush of engineers and logistics personnel who rush to fortify positions you just took, only to watch it slowly be lost to the enemy force….. my god. This game is amazing!

      @@twiglets2 the coordinated efforts by everyone in this game is out of this world… I have never seen such cooperation in a multiplayer game before. It is literally like watching a well oiled machine go to work.
      I was in the Linn March area yesterday around the ustaria (can’t remember if this is right but it started with a U) falls area, I was there for 6 + hours,for the first half of the time, we were all bottle necked on opposite sides of a broken bridge. This lasted a good 3 hours. Then we broke through and pushed all the way to their base by some ranch area. We fortified and built up the areas and bridges behind us. The enemy had flanked around our position at about the 5 hour mark, it started with just a few pot shots at our logistics guys from a ridge, we took them out, and more troops just kept pouring in, they found a weak spot and exploited it, about an hour later we were back at the bridge we started at, it was destroyed again, and we were just trying to hold the choke point.
      When I realized we were back where we started from 6 hours ago, I instantly fell in love with this game. This is a gaming experience like none other in my life. And I’m an old head who started playing video games on the most advanced console of the time….. an Atari!

      @@HomeDefender30 Ulster Falls is imo the most fun region to fight in
      The massive forest in most of it prevents somewhat stale trench fights, and provides massive flanking ability lol.
      In war 89 I picked up some new guys and got them in a LT (light tank) at Hermit's Rest, we fought there for what felt like hours lol. Sometime during the fight, about 6 collie tanks were lining up at the southern road leading into Hermit's, and there were only 2 friendly tank holding there. My tank was still in the forest west of the road, and saw the road fight going down. We quickly rushed over there and preformed one of the best flanks I've seen, ending in us having killed 1 bardiche and 3 spathas, which ended their armor superiority there.

    As someone who's played too long, I will give a warning: The deeper you go into understanding the game, the more you start to hate it. Your entire success or failure regarding the game relies on the contributions of everyone else. And when people start to take those sacrifices of time and effort for granted, the most productive pieces of the war machine stop playing, and you've lost the war.
    Honestly, if there were any game on the market that was truly anti war right now, It'd be Foxhole. You suddenly realize how much war costs in the grand scheme of things, and why we can't have nice things in real life. Of course people who log on, get blown up on the front several times, and log off don't see this and they don't care. But those who put in the most effort are having the least amount of fun, because by the time they want to travel to the front for their own fun, there's nothing because everyone else spent all the resources they created, and nobody will go to fill in the vacancy left in logistics.

    • @twiglets2
      @twiglets2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It sounds like a heavy weight on your shoulders playing logistics. I've definitely taken for granted the 1,000 mammons and thousand of bmats. It saddens me to think logistics players not having their fair share of fun on the front line, I'll be sure to thank them even more for deliveries than I already do!

    • @TarsonTalon
      @TarsonTalon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@twiglets2 I don't want a thanks. I want priority queue. If I build a base in a region, then I should be able to log on and supply/protect it. This is why everyone hates building these days, because they can't get on to even use the bases they built and operate from, unless it's a dead region. Bonus points if the enemy reaches a backline logistics region, and you still can't supply your base. Basically, once a region is full of incompetent thrill seekers, that region is lost, because no supplies are gonna get made or get into the region.

    • @twiglets2
      @twiglets2  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TarsonTalon I see I see, that would explain the queue of angry logi trucks sat at a border screaming for people to leave the region if they're not doing anything.

    • @TarsonTalon
      @TarsonTalon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@twiglets2 The thing is people shouldn't have to do that. The mechanics of the game should reflect human nature; while it's one thing to work toward the common goal of victory, it's another to work toward the common goal of trying to overcome bad design. To be fair, Foxhole is a one-of-a-kind game, perhaps the first of its kind, and while of course there's gonna be design hiccups because of it, I can't help but think the devs feel like they can get away with anything, because people do not currently have an alternative. While there obvious balance issues in the game, most of these cannot be solved without locking down the fundamental gameplay loop first.
      In addition to mission-critical personal not getting into a region, the border base mechanics actively work against a team securing a region. It's gotten to the point now where we are yelling at people to NOT attack the last relic base in a region, because if they capture it, border bases spawn which the enemy will camp, and then capture to receive free equipment to immediately start another attack without ANY logistics necessary, before we are able to build any defenses. In all honesty, even though it is legitimately playing the game, it would be a bannable offence in any other game, because of just how much it hurts a teams efforts.
      All and all, what ticks me off about this game is that far too often, the best contribution a player can make for their team is to LITERALLY NOT PLAY. And that is so very dumb. New players and veteran players are constantly at each other's throats because the new players want to keep attacking, whereas the veterans know it will make us lose unless we prepare and build up. Alts and idiots will even rally new players to go against the team's wishes.
      The dumb thing is, even if people DO listen, now they're bored, they leave the game, and the team loses anyway. We can't win with plebs, and we can't win without them. Typically, the team that wins is the one with less incompetence on it, a population advantage, or a tech advantage. The last thing that matters is your own contributions, as incompetence will supersede it. If for example, logistics is great this war, but the people on the front do not build or continually allow the enemy to capture well-supplied bases on the front, guess what? You end up supplying the enemy more than you are your own team. On the opposite side of the spectrum, you could fight as hard as possible, QRF any partisans, and kill dozens of enemy tanks. It doesn't matter if people will not do logistics. The worst thing is when your team does NOTHING. As in, you have all the supplies you could need, you have the entire front locked down...but then they just sit there and DON'T attack, and allow the enemy to continue building up for a counter attack.
      Anyways, I hope my rant has been enlightening to some people. While Foxhole is a nice game on the surface, the deeper you dig, the more you start to hate it. It's why I've stopped playing, and just QRF the game feedback Discord, lol.

    Twig, I noticed you managed to run and record this video by my clan members, and i have to say i very much apriciate CL being shown in the clips.
    I suggest check through all the clans, big or small, and maybe even create your own, or join us at CL - Callahans Legion.
    no really, try getting into squads, or if you want to try something, just run to something like a tankline that is made of more "clan men" and ask them, some of them might even help you out and give you pointes on how to do it. Most artilery batterys are almost always out of people who run the shells from "outpost" to the batterys, or even just pulling shells with truck or manually from the 'outpost' and helping load is already being part of the artilery. Tanking is harder to get into, because usually clan prefer to keep it to themselves on that, since tank is a scarse resourse, and you dont want new guys to run into enemy fire and lose like an hour of work... but do ask, and most people will allow you in to atleast commander seat, so you could learn more XD
    If you really want to test out Enginiering, or tanking, i suggest the breaktime between wars... the "resistance phase". Cause then you will not affect everyone, and you can learn a lot more(this is mainly for tanking), but the game itself, just run to someone higher up, doing something and ask if you can join, most will almost always accept, since more people, less presure for them xD
    i mainly came to tank you for showing my fellow clan mates in action ^_^ i really apriciate it.

    This means spawning at a base, and having to re-equip everything you’ve just lost (and re-equipping takes time…you have to select a gun, ammunition for it, you need to load that ammunition into the gun, then select a uniform depending on the role you’ve chosen to respawn as, equip a gas mask, grab bandages, grab grenades, and the more you carry, the slower you move leaving you more vulnerable to being killed).
    You leave the base with all this done and you can VERY easily be killed within 30 seconds….then it’s rinse and repeat the above.
    If a game is not going to respect my time, I’m not going to respect it.

It left a very strong impression on me since day one so I love seeing people experience the game for the first time even after having played it for so long.

      Foxhole is a very special game but in my opinion it's best if you have friends to play foxhole with, or you are happy working with strangers on the game.
      Playing solo is possible but on the whole less popular than playing on groups and clans

    Imo no, you are not missing anything. It is or you are not playing enough and not have fun or play too much and make operations etc but it takes up too much time. I am hoping for an update which makes the game easier: aiming is a mystery, weapons should be a stockpile and not individual guns as well as ammo, I know it's impossible but one big server would be soooo good, but no different server each hexagon and commending is bullshit.

    • @twiglets2
      @twiglets2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My one complaint is that it takes up so much of your time. It's a very time demanding game which is fine for some, but not for all. Everyone on the same server would be crazy - I hope they do that one day!

      It's a difficult decision, and the only way to know for sure is to try! It's a social game, you can spend time with resources, or shooting people on the front line. If any of that sounds appealing there is a good chance you will like the game. But I suggest waiting for the sale!

    On the shooting mechanics: it really is a weird thing. Getting constant 420 noscopes in CoD will help you later, once you become adept at the basics, but much of it is in the footwork and liking it is pretty much up to individual tastes.

      I've finally had a few breakthrough moments where I'm starting to "get" the shooting mechanics and see some success. I purchase this game after checking out videos like this. To tell the truth either you love this game or you hate. I bought and I absolutely hate it. It's like going for work. The tutorial is bad, like all these type of games. There is a huge variety of roles, which you don't know how to play them even badly or at all. There is a huge variety of materials to gather and mine and one thousand ways to produce vehicles. But again you know of them. You get confused all the tiem with the stations and substations and materials. The game is about 90% logistics and gathering and 10% actions. Sure you can go to the battlefield of course. Again there is nowhere to find how or where to fight. Y9u just follow other people and die usually. Something 8n the learning process I guess by still super difficult. Very hard to cope with where to resupply, which ammo is for which rifle, many times over y9u get the wrong ammo because there isn't always an easy reference for the ammo of the gun. What's the difference of med kit and how to use, what's the difference of bandage and when to use. Yeah, you can 9n the battlefield and fight but you lose like ab9ut 70% of them game as it is oriented mostly to gather resources like in real war. Thus, my frustration thinking to be my next full time online game but no. Even though I play complicated games, this is way to complicated for my taste. I dont want to click all the time over metal to mine it like a worker, I want to have some fun. Mining resources or walking 10 mins to enter a 10 sec battle isn't so mu h fun. I don't know if it is getting better if you play with friends. I don't have friends who play this online so I was alone. I wanted to give a full review as well to deter people like me buying something they won't like. I don't want to say it is a bad game because the opinion is subjective.

      @@twiglets2 - I would defo say its got much more too it, it has the same jump as you might get going from, battlefield to hell let loose, except for hell let loose to squad. I would say generally it has more depth to it, with Base making, many different country and vehicles to use with squad members playing different roles defiantly being a more important in squad then HLL. I also think the medic system is much better in squad, with anyone being able to pick up anyone, but with the caveat of the average soldier can only bring 2 bandidages (which also stops bleeding) and medics are the only ones you can heal someone back to full strength.

      @@alexanderpippington9277 That's a good point about the medic system, I find basically nobody plays medic on HLL and I wonder why...too difficult to get to players to res them perhaps? It feels like a section of the game that could do with an overhaul, but then again, I haven't played it much!

      It's difficult to get across the rewarding aspects of this game as I believe they lie in the teamwork and communication which can be difficult to get across by watching someone else play.
      It's a really fun game but a lot of players say they feel "burn out" after a while so I definitely recommend playing it in rotation with other games so counteract that! I'm sure it will be on sale within the next 6 weeks or so

    What about secret tunneling? Could I burrow under enemy lines and dlow them up from beneath?

      Unfortunately not, though that sounds like an excellent idea, I hope they introduce that at some point!

      Fair play. It must be difficult having to switch seats to move / fire though right? We struggle with a fully crewed tank at the best of times!
