    The MS290 is a getter. The only difference to the MS271 that replaced it is better AV and it sips the fuel. I wouldn’t ever let that 290 out of your sight. Thanks for the WHOO, Larry!!

    Rips pretty good. Reminds me of my 029 super. It was 28 years old and I upgraded. 500i 25 inch bar. It would blow your mind and make bucking twice as fun! That’s what this hobby should be, max fun!

    I've had a 290 farm boss for about, 6 years now, sometimes I've pushed it and its been a awesome saw,just picked up a 362 c with a 25 inch bar can't wait to get it into the wood

    • @OutsidewithScheib
      @OutsidewithScheib  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the 290 in my opinion is a great all around saw just big enough for just about anything.

  • @toddsoutsideagain

    I just started using the stihl sharpener on my 290 and have had pretty good luck with it. 290 is the only saw I have as well. I think I would buy a 461 next for a bigger saw! Thanks for sharing brother!👍🏻👍🏻

    I've had my 290 for over 15yrs. It spins like a top. Learn to hand file, makes all the difference in the world. I have the old school file kit (way before the 2 n 1 came out). I even hit "new" chains with the file (a couple strokes a piece on the cutters) right out of the box and it cuts like a dream. Is it a beast like the 500, of course not, but it eats wood just fine with a sharp chain and has run like a scalded cat for over a decade. Great real world no BS video.

    • @wulf67
      @wulf67 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What’s the difference between using two files to sharpen your chain vs the 2-in-1? Other than it takes twice as long and is more than twice the work? If you hold it level, the 2-in-1 keeps the rakers at the perfect (and more importantly, consistent) depth.

    Don, that MS 290 does the job! If you want me to, I can check with Bob’s outdoor power, where I got my 500i and see if they still have the one left they did have. I think it’s about 65 miles from Tower City. Holler back if you would like me to check. Larry had a great ending for your video.....hope he still ain’t out there trying to find his can 🤣

    Hey Scheib, I run 2 of those ms290s. I think they are great. They get the job done for sure. Funny , I am looking to get a 500i as well. With a 32in bar. My 290s have a 16 and 20in. I have a vid of bucking using the 20in. bar. Thumbs up on the video. Niice to see a fellow firewood guy running the same saw!

  • @sawsurgeon
    @sawsurgeon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great vid Brother! 2 in 1 is a great tool, I had the Exact same experience with mine regarding the flat file. My biggest gripe was at the replacement price if the flat file... Pricey!
    Now I shall Judge your technique: (wink) Nice sawmanship. (thumb up emoji here!) You are very consistent with your bucks, dogging in yet not overloading the saw.
    There is truly a sweet spot to attain and you appear to use your saw to it's full potential, however you will absolutely Love the larger class saw once you move up.
    Now that I have owned an 066 and a 395XP my poor MS362 just won't cut it anymore... Well, not literally, it's still an Awesome saw. LOL
    I'm Old School and since I've crossed over to the Dark Side I'm gunning for a brand new 372XP before the EPA kills them once and for all!!! Long Live the Carburetor!
    Larry's closing was Awesome! What a hoot! Bless'ns to ya, Tedd

    • @OutsidewithScheib
      @OutsidewithScheib  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol thanks for the Critique on my technique I tend to listen to the saw it will tell you what it wants ha ha. I am sure if and or when I get the 500i the farm boss will still have a place in my lineup. As for the flat file I haven’t replaced it yet but the round files I have not to terrible for those haven’t looked up the flat file yet lol.

    • @sawsurgeon
      @sawsurgeon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@OutsidewithScheib :: The round files are standard issue, which was thoughtful on their part.😎
      The flat one is like $12 if I’m not mistaken.
      I was cutting with a friend who literally had to re-file 2:1 vs re-fuel😳
      He smoked my files in record time.
      After the 3rd flat file, I set out to learn free hand filing and gave the
      2 in 1 to the King of Firewood.
      They are a great tool though👍🏼. Bless’ns to ya, Tedd

  • @briankennedy1313
    @briankennedy1313 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    How does a pitcher help you with orientation when using the 2/1? It’s not that it takes too much raker, it takes it at the wrong angle, too much on the top side. And it doesn’t get enough side plate. 2/1 are for touch up only.
