One of my favorite groovies by one of my favorite ska/punk bands ever. The song is "Jabberjaw" by the band Pain, which can be found on their Jabberjaw EP or their Jabberjaw 7".
Fun Fact: Correct me if I'm wrong but this song is the only piece of Jabberjaw related media where they acknowledge that Jabberjaw himself talks like Three Stooges' Curly.
Plus of course Frank Welker's voice for Jabberjaw since he started voicing the title shark in 1976 was and always has been an impression of Shemp/Jerome Howard's Curly, same as the one show with the Three Stooges as robotic superheroes "The Robonic Stooges" and their multiple guest appearances in The New Scooby-Doo Movies.

what a genuinley sweet song. i feel like this song has kinda a sweet message behind it, using the real world tv show Jabberjaw, as a metaphor for being an underdog. Like yeah, Jabberjaw as a show never got as popular as scooby do, but who cares about recgonition he saves the day, his way.
Not just Jabberjaw. Hanna-Barbera made a lot of detective cartoons because of how successful Scooby-Doo is, but Scooby-Doo is the only one that ever managed to stick.
I was working at Cartoon Network when this was produced. It really blew me away. I think it's wonderful This introduced me to Pain and I bought everyone of their CDs. Still a big fan. Sorry they broke up.
*Me when I'm old and in a nursing home:* "Play that Ska song with the Shark getting chased by a giant worm that gets stuck on a peanut butter sandwich." My children and grandchildren: "Yep, time to put Pop-Pop out of his misery. He's lost it."
It wasn't as popular as The Flintstones, The Jeffersons, and Scooby-Doo even Popeye got showtime which was one of the oldest cartoons that Cartoon Network until around 2005-06. Yes Jabberjaw did sometimes aired in the 90's on Cartoon Network just to throw something different once in a while instead watching the first episode of Scooby-Doo about the 200th time that they do every year in the 90's that can get annoying.
This song is a subtle jab at Hanna-Barbera's animated output on Saturday mornings through the majority of the 1970's, where it seemed like almost every other show they made during the decade with few exceptions was a slight variation of the basic premise of Scooby-Doo namely Josie and the Pussycats, The Funky Phantom, The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, Captain Caveman and Clue Club plus several others of the era were basically all some form of the "kids or teenagers and talking animal or otherwise mascots/sidekick(s) face off against villains and the like" plot nearly every time. They really hit the nail on the head with the part of the song at 0:10 in that they always tried to capture or even top what had made the former such a success to varying degrees with all of those, and Jabberjaw was basically a fusion of Scooby meets Josie in terms of it's plot with being a traveling band that thwarts bad guys' plots. However, no matter how many similarly themed shows they made it seems our beloved talking Great Dane simply couldn't be dethroned as king of Saturday morning cartoons even to this day. The part at 1:05 also is so funny, it references that Jabber is attracted to Shelly in the original series and she is the token stereotype "queen bee" Daphne/Alexandra type girl who always is stuck up and insults him. They obviously implied as much in the opening when he picks her up and gives her a big kiss.
Fun fact: one of the shows you mention, Captain Caveman, was made specifically for the show “Scooby Doo’s All-Star Laff-a-lympics”. And Captain Caveman and the teen angels were created to fill out the Scooby team in the competitions because there was some contract stuff going on behind the scenes that prevented them from using Josie and the Pussycats. So Captain Caveman is a Scooby-Doo clone created to replace a Scooby-Doo clone for a show linked to Scooby-Doo. It’s like a Scooby-Doo turducken!
Yep, apparently there was some kind of legal issue that came up with Archie Comics at the time over using the Josie and the Pussycats characters in the Laff-a-Lympics show (there was promo materials where the selected characters Alan, Josie, Alexander, Alexandra and Sebastian are shown) and Hanna-Barbera couldn't clear it with them so they had no choice but to invent said characters as a result of this.
It’s really something how ABC treated the studios. They threatened to cancel Scooby-Doo every year unless they came up with a new format which is why we have so many incarnations of Scooby-Doo.
@PurpleRwin500 Indeed, hence the big snake up after Scrappy-Doo was introduced in 1979. Those shorts without Fred, Daphne or Velma which ran up through 1983 or so before they returned to full episode format. Basically, through most of the 80's (the Scrappy era, 1979-1988) they had to change the format each season. That said, New Scooby-Doo Mysteries and 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo and the three Superstars 10 telemovies were the highest point of that era before HB rebooted with A Pup Named Scooby-Doo into the '90s.

Something about how it fades away just gives it that extra kick of nostalgia. Just like how many parts of our childhoods fade away so we just gotta be grateful for the stuff that is still here.
Same. I discovered the channel some time after my family got DirecTV back in the early 2010s. It was channel 298 and I used to change to it when I wanted to watch cartoons and stuff late at night since Adult Swim was on on the 2 CN channels.
All of these years and I never realized that the way the Neptunes appear in this short was _already_ a re-imagining of the original, that's how little anybody knows about Jabberjaw. I can't help but think they HAD something here, too--they've been recast as a ska band and while the designs are still distinctly Scooby-Doo esque they're not bad at all.
Hilariously enough, this song (along with Goldfinger's Superman) got me into ska music. I actually covered this song with a few friends for a talent show in high school. We won too. Such an awesome song!
Jayman493 People consider it the last great decade for a reason. The 80s had all that technological advancement and political upheaval with the fall of the Berlin Wall. The 90s pretty much cemented a lot of different things with popular culture and even more technology like the Internet! So yeah, those of us who grew up in the 90s were influenced by the stuff that happened in the 90s.
This one was always my favorite music video on CN back in the day. Amazing how 16 years later I still find myself humming that riff at 0:43. I've never even seen a single episode of Jabberjaw, LOL
Y'know what really disappoints me is that Boomerang stop no longer shows Hanna-Barbara classic cartoons on it's channel. There were other classic shows on the same channel such as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery cartoons, Pink Panther, Captain Planet, and (I think) Woody Woodpecker. Why can't they show those like they did?
Kids weren't the ones watching Boomerang. That's why they have Cartoon Network, kids watch that. People that grew up with classic Hanna-Barbara watched Boomerang.
“Who’s gonna talk like Curly since Curly isn’t here?” I don’t know why, but line makes me kind of sad. The world desperately needs some three stooges right now. I loved this short on CN back in the day.
Aww man, I remember coming home from school every day to watch Toonami, and as I was waiting for Sailor Moon to come on, they would show this, or that awesome Josie and the Pussycats one. Great memories.

+Tumult Because Jabberjaw really just felt like a Scooby Doo rip off and didn't add anything particularly new to the Hanna-Barbera formula. I think more people would have watched it if CN made a remake that was more like this promo video.
Damn this song feels so raw. It's like part acknowledging Jabberjaw is a mish mash of more popular things, most obviously Scooby-Doo, but at the same time not giving a fuck and still continuing on
You have. NO IDEA. How long this has been in my mind- And how long I've wanted to find it again, and how often I've thought that I never would be able to-

R.I.P. good Hanna Barbara shows (for incense whats new Scooby doo-scooby doo movie flintstones-flintstones movie tom and jerry- tom and jerry movie etc)
Hey, Mystery Inc. is really good
+Razzwave um I think he meant the new one on boomerang I think it's called what's cool scooby doo or something like that
+J Doss add boomerang to your cable
+J Doss I heard it today on tooncast :P
Rebeltaxi reminded me that this song is actually a banger.
I know right
Link to that rebeltaxi video?

About 20 years later and this song will still pop into my head at the most random and inappropriate of times.
This made was 20 years ago? geez, how long was it on TV for? because apparently it's as old as me.
@@flargarbason17402010 I think it when it stopped but nothing after 2015
@flargarbason1740 It started airing around 1999, not sure when it stopped on CN but it aired on Boomerang until the rebrand
Same here! I was working on the yard today and suddenly began singing this....
Especially when I see Jabberjaw
Something about how it fades away just gives it that extra kick of nostalgia. Just like how many parts of our childhoods fade away so we just gotta be grateful for the stuff that is still here.
I really miss the old format for Boomerang this used to be one of my favorite things as a child
Ooh. That line of "Who's going to talk like Curly since Curly isn't here" ooh that's sad.
Hilariously enough, this song (along with Goldfinger's Superman) got me into ska music. I actually covered this song with a few friends for a talent show in high school. We won too. Such an awesome song!
I was inspired by the cartoons of this time to become and animator. I guess the 90's had an effect on all of us huh?
Jayman493
People consider it the last great decade for a reason.
*****
What video?
Kablam did it for me.
Grats man! XD
Never saw even ONE episode of this, but seeing this pop up on Boomerang? This was fire.
Underrated Band for sure
Wait are you one of the band members
BronyOtaku Gamer holy shit it is
Stuart McNair Yo ima see salvo in september dude i love this band
I remember seeing you guys in the Mobile back in the 90s! I always liked the fight monkey or whatever that was!
Stuart McNair thank you for bringing happiness to my childhood ❤️😢

**Someone mentions JabberJaw**
Me and the bois be like:
This one was always my favorite music video on CN back in the day. Amazing how 16 years later I still find myself humming that riff at 0:43. I've never even seen a single episode of Jabberjaw, LOL
Who else loved this one WAY more than all the other ones and ended up getting into punk as a teenager haha
Me but minus the getting into Punk. This one and El Kabong Rides Again
@@marcusblackwell2372gorilla for sale was the best one!
This one was always the best/most beloved one but Secret Formula & MaGilla Gorilla 4 Sale are bangers.
The harmonies in this song. *chef's kiss*
This song hits so hard
Y'know what really disappoints me is that Boomerang stop no longer shows Hanna-Barbara classic cartoons on it's channel. There were other classic shows on the same channel such as Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery cartoons, Pink Panther, Captain Planet, and (I think) Woody Woodpecker. Why can't they show those like they did?
Because kids now want bright flashing colors screaming making poop jokes :/
Kids weren't the ones watching Boomerang. That's why they have Cartoon Network, kids watch that. People that grew up with classic Hanna-Barbara watched Boomerang.
I watched Boomerang when I was young with my Grandma and we both enjoyed it.
they still show flintstones really late at night
Yeah. They also broadcast Dexter Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Foster's Home Imaginary Friends.
“Who’s gonna talk like Curly since Curly isn’t here?”
I don’t know why, but line makes me kind of sad.
That Josie one kicked ass.
The Josie one was my favorite.
Legend says playing This at 11:00 PM in the bathroom summons a special underwater mic
Interesting
The serious level of nostalgia this is bringing me is almost uncanny
Man this song takes me way back
Dontae Rudd same!!
LYRICS:
[Verse 1: Dan Lord]
Me and my friends get no respect
What does Scooby do that we neglect?
We be puttin' all our foes in check
But me and my friends get no respect
So what? Who cares?
We're doin' it how we like
I'm singin' into my mic, a special underwater mic
Who's gonna save the world? Who's gonna save the days?
From Ahab, crabs who steal and eerie eels with evil rays?
Who's gonna talk like Curly, since Curly isn't here?
Who's gonna chase down villains and then turn around and run in fear?
You know who I'm talkin' about
He's fat and short on brains
And I do not mean Captain Caveman
I mean Jabberjaw!
[Verse 2: Dan Lord, Liz Milewicz, both]
Tries to further justice without making waves
And to impress the ladies but his subtle ways
Get lost between the sediment and water mains
I will never date you 'cause you smell like bait ("No respect!")
So what? Who cares?
When a supervillain plots
To send an army of lobster bots, to tie you up in sailor's knots?
Who's gonna save the world? Who's gonna save the day?
From Ahab, crabs who steal and eerie eels with evil rays?
Who's gonna talk like Curly, since Curly isn't here?
Who's gonna chase down villains and then turn around and run in fear?
Who's gonna stand for justice, when bad guys break the law?
You know who I'm talkin' about
We're Clamhead, Shelley, and Bubbles, and Biff,
But if you're catchin' a whiff of fish
It's Jabberjaw!
Why am I listening to this underwater earworm after more than decade? Two words:

If they ever do a reboot of Jabberjaw, this needs to be the theme song.
Right? I’d be all down for that
Maybe the Neptunes could use a new member.
Never watched Jabberjaw, but this song was such a huge banger in my childhood!
*I was not hallucinating. This song does exist!*
I have had "Me and my friends get no respect" in my head all day. Goddammit, Pan.
Now that I have found this it has to be played every 4 hours. UNTIL I DIE.
The only way
An Era as a kid I knew I never wanted to leave but times were moving so fast. Looking back it's really more beautiful than I remember.
we didnt deserve this 90s bros and we took it for granted
It's 2 a.m. I miss being a kid I have watched these later tonight during summer I just turned nineteen the nostalgia really hits me back then nothing to really worry about now times have change we all have the same feelings
when cartoon network was still worth watching

I you would have told me in my elementary school years back in the early 2000s that I would be screaming "Jabberjaw" at the top of my lungs as a 26 year old man 😂 Good God this song is a staple in my life
I remember when they would show the red tape I always begged for this song to come on.😍😂😍
Same! My sister and I tried to figure out the words so we could sing with it!
I wish we could all go back to those days😔
OMG mee too 😂😂😂
Yessss
Old Boomerang was amazing!
“upload 17 years ago” just hurt my feelings
i remember this song since i was a kid
inuyasha last time i checked you were 500 years before our time so tv shouldn't of been invented (i know you are not really him i'm just joking)
I wish Warner brothers would make a dvd release of all the groovies. I would buy that in a heartbeat.
The designs here and the punk rock aesthetic would make for a perfect Jabberjaw Reboot.
legendary stuff right here
This song was my entry to listening to ska music. After this I knew I had to listen to more
I always wanted to see one episode of them looking like this.
"I will never date you, cause you smell like bait!" 😂 1:05
Man my childhood. Send me back!! 😩
I love boomerang it has all the good stuff and I love the trumpet in this Ska song!!

It wasn't innocent, just more subtle.

BRO LISTENING TO THIS got me like 😭 I know a lot of people in these comments miss those good old days ,believe me I do to, but to whoever reading this who feels that way just remember that nostalgia should be a happy feeling, not bittersweet ❤️
You're absolutely right. 🤘
I remember this from a long time ago, Rebletaxi reminded me that it existed. I miss a lot of those Boomerang bumpers.
How did this song not save the television show?
The show had been off the air for about 30 years when they made this.
Groovies were usually made about older shows that had already ended
+Jerome Cullen Still a shame they never used those styles in a reboot.
+Tumult Because Jabberjaw really just felt like a Scooby Doo rip off and didn't add anything particularly new to the Hanna-Barbera formula. I think more people would have watched it if CN made a remake that was more like this promo video.
*Sheds tear*

Who misses Cartoon Network’s golden age?
This is one of those songs that randomly popped into my head. I used to love boomerang cartoons so much when I was little.
Damn this song feels so raw. It's like part acknowledging Jabberjaw is a mish mash of more popular things, most obviously Scooby-Doo, but at the same time not giving a fuck and still continuing on
I'll never forget the day I watched Boomerang as a kid, those were the best childhood moments.
You have. NO IDEA.
How long this has been in my mind-
And how long I've wanted to find it again, and how often I've thought that I never would be able to-
The golden era of Cartoon Network. These Groovies were such an enjoyable treat. This one and Incredible Shrinking Day are definitely my favorites.
This was endless on boomerang and it will still never end
This song just sends me back into my childhood, and suddenly those good old days flashes back, and a drop of teardrop rolls down.. Absolute nostalgia :) :) :) :) :) :) !!!
Awesome!! Proud to be 90s kid..
cartoon network just sucks now.. yuck!
I'm a modern person of today, and I agree that cartoon network pretty much sucks now. Although Adventure time is always a cute show.
Roberette Coperette yeah man, the only show from today's cartoon network that is good is Adventure Time because of it's story that is pretty interesting
Roberette Coperette Exactly Old CN had great shows and Then some! Nowadays maybe 4-5 decent shows and that's it! Where the extra "umph" the old CN always had to offer? be it music, bumpers, groovies, crossovers, more blocks like Toonami etc.
*sigh* tho new pres now so im hopeful for change.
Being young thinking to yourself that there will always be new cartoons and generation after generation will watch boomerang to see what cartoons were like in the old days. Thanks a lot Napster, Facebook and Google
"Who's gonna talk like Curly, since Curly isn't here," still kinda gets me.
I’m 20 and this makes me cry
