A years worth of food | Pantry, Freezer and Household stock up

- Once a year our family stocks the pantry, freezers, cleaning closets, office supplies, laundry room and personal care items. Did I mention I really hate shopping and just want to get it over with. We are currently a family of ten; my brother, uncle and a few cousins are staying at our home with us during this Covid Pandemic. We supplement with fresh produce and a few items here and there through the year, and really stay on budget because we don't go out to eat very often. We raise chickens for eggs, have an orchard, garden, blueberries, elderberries, nut trees and a stocked rainbow trout fish pond. We are adding walnut trees, grape vines, two persimmon trees, and boysenberry bushes next spring.
As a single mother my sister would stock up every year when she received her tax return. It helped them to be set all year for basics. Always seems like a lot of money but it actually saved her money. She got food, toiletries, school supplies and OTC medications. She didn't blow the money TV's and such. Throughout the year she had extra money for her and the girls to do fun things and get extra goodies because she stocked up. Always admired her for taking such good care of her and the girls.

This year I used my tax return to pay my rent for the year, my consumer cellular phone line and internet and HSLDA membership. Other than that, none of my other bills can be paid in advance. I hate owing money (borrower is slave to the lender after all) but thankfully, those are minimal :)

And, it takes a lot less energy, that having to stock up one's self! I'm nolonger a 'spring chicken' and found the process of shopping and organzing the haul to be more than a tad exhausting! So glad to have prepared well enough that I nolonger have to worry about it, and there is sufficient to feed my daugher and family, plus myself and pets for close to four years if we ration properly.

I grew up in Northern Ireland during the times known as “The Troubles “ and because we never knew when shops were going to be bombed or we couldn’t get into town because of barricades etc I started stocking up whenever possible. Fast forward to today and we immigrated to Canada but I still have the mind set to stock up the pantry as much as possible. It gives me a feeling of security that I can feed myself and my family. It is my dream to have a pantry like yours one day. Much love to you and your family ❤️

Kathleen McGimpsey when I first started housekeeping I had a small cupboard for a pantry. I am so grateful to have a walk-in pantry because we cook almost all meals at home.

I love to watch her hauls multiple times 😀 It keeps me motivated. I can't shop like this because it's on 2 in my household, but we do keep a small pantry and 2 freezers. One with meat & entrees and everything else goes in the other.

Shelby, I just admire how organized and neat you are. My family eats vegan and still just love your hauls. We did a mini-stock up the beginning of March then the beginning of May (mostly long-term storage items, beans, rice,etc.). You have energized me to go through my stock, get better organized and planned out for the next 12 months.

I know this comment is a year late but I absolutely stock up my staple items: dry goods, pastas, canned goods and jarred items. It saves money! I only buy dairy, breads, produce/fruits and a selection of meats! My cleaning items, paper goods for the whole house and charcoal for the grills are already stocked. I even have water and juices. We're ready for the winter! 2021/2022! I advise everyone to get ready and stay ready if you have the money and space for safe keeping! Stay blessed! I love you and your family!! 💕💞💕

I stock pile and coupon I’ve been doing it for years! People though I was crazy until I wasn’t! I’m glad I’ve have enough extras to share with our elderly neighbors like yeast, flour, sugar, butter, etc I know it meant a great deal to them to not have to worry about being food unstable. I love seeing where you were able to find your deals! Thanks for sharing.

I put the date on my foil , plastic cling film , parchment paper , garbage bags for both kitchen and big trash out door bins . I get from Costco , my foil will last up to 3 years I get the heavy duty and use it all the time . I like how I can see how long it lasts .

It’s a sweet jalapeño that is canned , we go though jars of it, I will get you the recipe, the syrup is so good on meats , I mix in with sour cream/cream fresh for salad dressing . Very easy to make and cans up beautifully . Think your family would love it .

My oldest brother has his like this , ritz crackers with peanut butter and 1 slice of jalapeño, I send him jars all the time . I can’t keep it on my shelves, 1 tip do it on a day you can have your windows open or better yet use Kens outstanding outdoor kitchen/Grill 💕

WOW! Now you HAVE to show us how/where you store all that! Do you have a separate storage room? I can't imagine all this food would fit in your kitchen pantry. Thanks for filming all this -- it was fascinating to watch! We are currently working on a 3-month supply of food for our family. It's quite overwhelming when you're just starting out.

Pamela Compton like you I’m just getting started and I absolutely agree, it is quite overwhelming because not only do you have to think about what you need but which items actually store the best ; what type of sugar what type of flour, oil, etc. then it’s a whole big learning curve on how you are supposed to store everything long term too.
@@blueraven2345 i made a two week meal plan based on what we normally eat. After writing it down and then knowing rough quantities, it made it a lot easier to see what sales to take advantage of and gave me a lot more focus. Not only for shopping but also for planning my garden. I recommend making some extra portions when you make dinner and can or freeze them, its better than canned soup and cheaper too.

All Things Christine I budget 4500. I stock up once a year. It’s around 2000. Then I pick up fresh and other items throughout the year. This includes cleaning supplies. I am in awe of Shelby. We do not have bargains in my area like she finds. Those are great prices. I am learning a lot from her. I may have to up my budget because meats have increased since COVID-19. Beef prices sometimes as much as 2.00 per pound. Bacon has increased over 3.00 per package.

Honestly, I'd be pissed that she freezes them. Whenever my mom put chocolate in the fridge or freezer I went ballistic. Just go get it when you need more, the quality of things drastically changes once frozen for months on end.
Forget about putting peanut butter cups in freezer I'd eat those in one sitting.
One would last me six months lol

Hi Shelby, that is one fantastic grocery haul you have there. I love seeing all the different foods and products from other countries, what you all have there in the stores. You have a great range of items and all the produce looks so fresh. I hope you are all doing great and staying safe and healthy given what is happening right now all over the world. I have little newborn baby boy that I will not take out in this pandemic at all, I have not been anywhere in 5 weeks, only to the GP and the maternal health nurse for Kayden's appointments but that's all. I'm surprised they let you purchase that much of the same items during covid last year. The grocery stores near my house had item limits ( like only 3 pastas, 5 cans of soup, 5 pounds of meat, 1 toilet paper, etc)
I think this lady went mostly to cash n carry kind of shops where people can bulk buy. A lot of huge shops were still very well stocked. Its not like she was panick buying tho lol.
@@indicablue7450 I don't think she is panic buying either. The amount I buy in my usual shopping trip was above the limits a few months ago. I wasn't panic buying. I just buy certain stuff in higher quantities when it's on sale every 3-4 months. Thankfully the item limit have mostly gone away where I live. Costco still has some random ones, but I see less and less everytime I go.

I just meant limits were given because some people like to make sure they get everything & dont care if anyone else gets anything. Buying over said limits from the past is not abad thing. In the UK it was toilet rolls & cleaning products & hand sanitizer during lockdown lol!! Even the wet loo roll. Anyway no offence intended. Have a lovely day!!

I love to watch when you do your stock pile of groceries. I love you showing everything when you put it in your pantry and freezer. One thing you have In your kitchen that that I wish I could see again is you coffee and tea station. That is amazing to me. I’m rearranging my kitchen and I hope to have a drawer like it.

I have a family of 5, we heavy stock 2x a year.
It save so much money! We were able to pay off our “big debt” in a little over a year, 14 months! We use taxes and then save a certain amount of money every check to do stock #2. My children hate the end of our stock pile, it’s clean out time! We eat random stuff for about 2 wks, but I want a bare shelf before stocking back up again!
If you are able to hit clearances and use coupons, that’s a huge score in my book! We also make sure whatever food we eat all the animals can eat too! Zero food wasted! Food is just to expensive to throw away!

Can you start small? I had to start small because of finances, so when I shopped if there was 1 or 2 things on special that I know I use then I would just stock up on that.

I love these annual hauls. I feel like I know your shopping and cooking habits so well now. I was worried that you didn’t have enough Thai Red Curry sauce... until the last store! Phew!
That Old Kountry store has such wonderful things! Those towels are so charming and old-timey and the little variety jams and jellies are sooooo cute! Love it!
Super cool haul! I would recommend seeing if you could buy reuseable items like metal or silicone straws, reuseable batteries, flannel or cotton fabric rounds, etc. Just a thought when you think about your year over year use. Small changes are still good changes.
And in the long run it saves money. Same for a safety razor, menstrual cup and reuseable zipbags.
