At the highest, DF was going approx. 2,000 meters per second or 4473.873 mph or 7200.0006693 kph. :)
For a raft with omni-directional collection AND the possibility to expand easily you want to put nets on 2 touching sides of the square/rectangle (nets on an L-shape).
But iirc the game works in way where the original 4 tiles you spawn on will forever be the centre of the game in terms of flotsam spawns. (Going more than ~25 tiles into one direction means theres no flotsam on the outer nets if you go in a straight line.)

Just to give you some ideas of the speed, walking is a meter or two per second. Highway speeds is something like 30 m per second. The speed of sound is 340 something meters per second

Whatever mod changes the speed based on the raft base doesn't seem programmed to turn, which leaves most of your speed in the default direction.

For reference 2279 m/s gets you an 80 Km orbit in Kerbal Space Program. IRL the International Space Station orbits at about 6940 m/s.

@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 As a fellow American I feel no shame in saying that I only use SI units for technical things, melting points of 3D printer plastics and Kerbal Orbital Velocities. Fahrenheit is by far the better measure of environmental temperatures.

I think the long stick on the wheel indicates center, so when you leave the wheel you should probably reorient it if you want to continue straight.

You might want another episode with this mod: one intending to catch islands with the raft; snag them with their shape, like an V L J or 7 at first then widen the scale so passing islands arrest the raft: as materials pour-in, double shape the raft into a W E 3 or M design, continuing off the 1st shape to hook islands and explore. How many animals can you shanghai?

I think you figured it out but the steering wheel doesn't control where you go just orientation. A sail woulda been more useful (or just more nets).

the steering wheel will only just turn the raft and do nothing else. The raft is moving down current not the current moving to a static raft, otherwise it wouldn't make sense that islands just move. Steering isn't going to do anything without some kind of thrust from the raft from either sails or an engine.
You should make it so the more prices the more bigger the waves are they will be giant in the end

Only DF can get outplayed by a llma
for perspective 50 meters / ps is 160 kph or 100 mph and a lil over 300 meters per second is mach 1 or the speed of sound so if he talked he wouldnt hear it
Just for reference modern warships today, nuclear or gas powered, move at a maximum of about 14 to 15 m/s. 😐🏃💨😆 Mach 1 at ground is ~330 m/s
