Amazing transformation. It always makes me sad to see quality old furniture that has been, more often than not, badly painted. I blame the shabby chic craze of the recent past. Let's hope more people will learn to appreciate the natural beauty of wood and furniture design, be it mid-century or earlier periods.
It’s always part of a pyramid scheme too. They buy the paint and the ‘right’ to sell the paint. But they have to prepay and buy in bulk. Worse it is always cheap paint and part of some magic system that doesn’t require sanding or prep work. It ALWAYS bubbles and flakes off eventually.
the ikea minimalism and farmhouse looks are also hitting antiques hard. I don’t know how many times I’ve seen gorgeous pieces just painted bright white and left that way or then “distressed” to look all worn, without care for the actual item at all
@@arcatia66 unfortunately I often have to tell people the antique phonograph, radio, or tv they want to sell was only worth money BEFORE they turned it into the kitschy fish tank, bar, “art” piece.

Wow, the finish is on the dresser is gorgeous! A hidden drawer/box?! I've never heard of, let alone seen, such a cool feature! I bet it looks as good or better than the day it was manufactured. Great job!
Beautiful restoration, such a lovely piece of furniture under all that paint. I have come to hate all that distressed "farmhouse" and "shabby chic" look, or drawers painted and covered with mod podge appliques. Particularly when it's committed on such a quality piece like this one.
I love watching furniture flipping transformation videos, but most of the time I feel like there is something lacking with with pieces like this. Why anyone would have painted that wonderfully fine piece of furniture is stultifying. What a magnificent job of restoring this back to its original, glorious wood!! Very well done!!!
You are a first American that I found very soft spoken and well manner when speaking, I am not into mid century furniture but it was enjoyable because of you, cheers my friend.
I feel like this piece must be thanking you for bringing it back to its glory. There's a lot of low-quality furniture out there to be painted and made over and that's great. But it's sad to see when true quality wood pieces are mistreated by flippers. Yes to beautiful wood!

Angie is one of my favourites too, and the reason I started following furniture restoration channels! She was the first furniture flipper I started following and now I've added many of them to my channels list! :D Furniture flipping is such a pleasant genre, I especially enjoy removing the old paint/finishing and applying new finishes parts. @@MadCityModern When I see real wood painted …I cringe 😬. I swear I’m going to have my Cherry dining set cremated with me to keep it from being painted
You totally gave a new life to a beautiful piece of furniture. Thank you for mentioning this overdone furniture painting thing. I definitely see the benefits in painting furniture SOME TIMES. I am also a huge, huge fan of Angie on Transcend Furniture Gallery and I have noticed that she will refinish the original wood/wood veneer on pieces as much as possible. On those pieces with no hope of refinish, she paints. That makes such perfect sense to me. I must admit I am a wood and “natural” snob but definitely understand there are times and reasons to paint. Angie loves to emphasize saving pieces from the landfill. Amen to that! Paint or landfill?? No brainer there. Thanks for this great video.
I do love Angie’s channel and keep up with all her videos. I should have suspected these two restorers would be friends as they both love to restore wooden furniture to its former glory. I also am right there with you with regards to painting furniture and the shabbily chic trend. I certainly can admire the style when it is well done but it is not for me. I kept my 70’s furniture so long that it is back in again and i still love it. It gets its occasional coat of Howards Feed and Wax and it glows. Some people have that ability to see beauty in a scruffy worn piece and they don’t just save it, they recreate it. As long as it is sturdy it is definitely a win. Bless them both and all those that see beauty when the rest of us just walk on by.
I don’t care how good a person is with a paint brush or which technique is used, you just can’t beat the beauty of the natural wood that Mother Earth put there in the first place. That is lovely!🤗🐝❤️
I was thinking the same thing today as I was looking through slabs of walnut at the Habitat Re-Store today. Can't beat the natural wood grain! Love this comment. Thank you Deborah!
First of all… WOW that turned out amazing 🤩 the finish is beautiful and definitely super cozy. Second, you’re so nice mate 🥰 thanks for all the love. This is an awesome video !
I am blown away at this restoration. Your hard work and patience paid off in a big way. The hidden drawer is so cool! I keep all the cards and notes that my nieces and nephews have given me over the years and I would use that little drawer for those keepsakes. Transcend and Flipping Drawers are awesome channels. I look forward to their videos, along with yours, every week. Have a great day!
I love beautiful restorations like this! I must say I get tired and frustrated when I see flippers paint everything in sight. I enjoy respect for craftsmanship of the past and for the wood itself. Thank you for sharing a lovely restoration!
What started out as a very tacky piece of junk is now an elegant piece of fine furniture. Beautiful! Remember, if we all help one another in little ways, we’ll never need worry about the big things.
Just WOW! Love that restoration. Not every piece of furniture needs to be painted. So glad you brought it back to its original beauty. Love that little hidden bin. I would use it to store valuables - if I had any. Lol. Subscribed to the new channel and look forward to watching it as well. 🥳

Hey Chris. Thank you for watching. Welcome to the channel. I keep hearing how this video is popping up in the suggested videos for new viewers. This is all new to me. Thanks for the support. The channel has come a long way so keep that in mind as you watch the older less polished videos. Barry
You did an amazing job on this piece. The final result is so beautiful. You must have spent so much time stripping every last bit of that paint off and sanding this piece. The work you put in really shows.

That looks so much better than before! And I like your thoughts. While painting is always an option, I like wood because of its inherent beauty. The asymmetry of painting is that it's a lot more work to undo than to do in the first place. I wonder if a layer of shellac under the paint could be encouraged, partly as a way to make it more readily removed.
This is one of my favorite comments. This is the approach I am trying to take. Saying it is ok for others to paint, but just not my first choice. Regarding laminate, I'll paint over that all day everyday : ) Barry
So glad that you took the extra time and effort needed to remove the paint from this beautiful dresser. A natural wood finish is timeless in my opinion. Keep up the great work!

wow, beautiful result. so impressed with the attitude, the pay it forward ideology, the local business support, the fireplace and listening to grandma’s record collection.
It has a warm finish that I adore! Love the hidden drawer! I need one now! 😄 Amazing clean up of the hardware, I had no idea it could be done without harsh chemicals! 👍 I will sub to your tool restoration channel as I find tools fascinating and have collected many different old ones.
What resonated with me is not only the fine craftsmanship, but your kind soul and selflessness. Paying it forward is definitely the best thing we as a people can do, period. This made me try harder in that aspect as an individual, as I have zero skill in craft. Cheers, and have a warm holiday. Subbed and belled! I'll keep watching.
This dresser turned out beautiful! Thank you for restoring it to its former glory I just picked up a MSM Drexel dining table off FBMP. I hope I can restore it as well as you did with this piece. It has some veneer damage so I’ve been watching yours and Angie’s videos to learn more about the process.
Drexel definitely has my heart when it comes to furniture. My dad inherited a beautiful desk and I grabbed myself an end table from a junk removal job for an older lady that was otherwise going to a landfill, both of which are thankfully free of paint and in great shape. They made some fantastic and sturdy furniture over the years, and finding pieces in good shape is definitely worth the money. Well done, amazing job! Just a bit of constructive criticism for future videos: If you have the ability with the camera you use, try to set the focus manually for some of your close up shots so that your hand movement doesn't cause it to lose focus. Otherwise You do a fantastic job and I'm glad I found your channel!
Well Said! I have been pleased with the quality of all the Drexel pieces I have found. Glad you feel the same. What I realized was, when working with gloved hands, I often bump certain settings on the camera and don't notice until it is too late. Doing my best to keep the quality top notch. Please keep giving constructive criticism in the future. To some, it may seem harsh, but I truly appreciate it. Barry
Just stunning! It’s hard to beat the old, well made, quality pieces of furniture. I have to say that you truly did this one justice! I just subscribed to this channel and look forward to more of your videos.
I love how this turned out. So good! I watched a few of your other videos and bought the detail scrapers you used. Got to use them this last Saturday on a small drop leaf table I’m working on. OMG… I hated them. UNTIL… i finally got the groove. I am still working on the table but I found it more relaxing than I thought I would scraping off all the finish. Definitely enjoy that more than using a stripper or sanding. I used your link to purchase. I see a few other things I may have to purchase as well.
This makes perfect sense. I hated using the scrapers the first few times. You said it best. Once you get in a groove it can be relaxing and is actually much better than using the stripper. Thank you for sharing this
Well Barry another absolutely beautiful restored piece of furniture! The hidden drawer would be a great place to put important paperwork and documents. I have viewed your friends Channel however I must confess I❤ the more complete way you to your projects. Brrrr only 40° in the garage, it's only 70 degrees here in Florida. Thanks for sharing I will check out your other channel also. Stay warm🔥.

I’m blown away by the beauty of this brass, and the revealed wood grain underneath the paint. I love your videos, especially your attention to the details of the piece of furniture.
Words can't express the feelings I get when looking at an old piece of furniture. I'm extremely nostalgic and really enjoy seeing pieces like this treated with respect. It does my heart good. It's like it had a quick trip to the hospital followed by a long stay at the spa. Watching the wood being brought back to life and the hardware being restored is mesmerizing and satisfying. It turned out beautifully. Seeing it fully restored, relaxing in front of the fire was the ultimate ending. I absolutely LOVE Angie from Transcend Furniture Gallery! She is so humble, so meticulous, and is such a good teacher. You actually remind me a bit of her in the modest style of your channel. 🤍
Beautiful restoration.... I'm all for painted furniture, but some people have to learn when to leave it be.... it was so satisfying seeing the paint being scraped off!
Paint stripping is so satisfying to watch. Must be even more satisfying to do 😂🤤🤣… the way things look when they’re finished really is impressive. How gorgeous.
@@MadCityModern I do have a question for you, what would you suggest to use as a finish. I’ve been using modern clear polyurethane, but I feel like something like that should be done with an old fashioned method. I’m just not sure what finish to use on old things like that.

You never cease to amaze me! Gorgeous dresser! Great Job!!
Thank you Cindy. Love seeing your comments! Barry
The TH-cam algorithm brought me here… Your amazing work made me stay. I work as a handyman as a side business but restring old pieces is my passion. It’s so sad to see what has happened to beautifully crafted pieces. Thanks to guys and galls like you more ppl will be able to see these works of art in their former glory. Keep up the great work. You got my sub
This is one of my favorite comments. Sounds like we have a lot in common. This has also become my passion, and I want to continue to find ways to get better. Any suggestions you have along the way would be appreciated. Thanks for your support. Barry
I would say some router bits should help. :) keep up the good work… keep paying it forward. It’s a great and fulfilling way to live.
Stunning restoration. Thank you for doing this and sharing the journey with us.
Hi Paula. Thank you for watching and for supporting the channel through your comments. Barry
wow, beautiful result. so impressed with the attitude, the pay it forward ideology, the local business support, the fireplace and listening to grandma’s record collection.
This message made me so happy. Thank you. Barry
Beautiful. As soon as I saw it was made by Drexel, I knew it was going to be a beauty. You made it sing.
Thank you Donna! I was so glad it wasn't damaged
It has a warm finish that I adore!
Love the hidden drawer! I need one now! 😄
Amazing clean up of the hardware, I had no idea it could be done without harsh chemicals! 👍
I will sub to your tool restoration channel as I find tools fascinating and have collected many different old ones.
Hi Angel. Thank you for such a detailed comment. I love this. Would love to hear about the things you have collected. Barry
Thank you for recognizing this! Barry
This dresser turned out beautiful! Thank you for restoring it to its former glory
I just picked up a MSM Drexel dining table off FBMP. I hope I can restore it as well as you did with this piece. It has some veneer damage so I’ve been watching yours and Angie’s videos to learn more about the process.
Can't wait to hear how it goes! Please let me know how I can help. Barry
I can’t believe that is the same dresser! Stunning!!
Thank you, Marnelle.
Barry
WOW!! Jaw dropping reveal! Thank you for restoring this piece to her original beauty ❤❤
Thank you for watching : ) Barry
Barry
@@MadCityModern I am very glad you don't take criticism the wrong way. Thanks for responding!
Not at all. I welcome the criticism. I learn so much from my faithful viewers. Occassionaly there is a nasty comment, but those are rare
Wow what a beautiful piece! And love the cone knob choice on the top drawers! We added that to our recent MCM makeover also 😄
Thank you! I struggled to find the right ones, but then remembered these knobs came from an amazing viewer. Barry
Just stunning! It’s hard to beat the old, well made, quality pieces of furniture. I have to say that you truly did this one justice! I just subscribed to this channel and look forward to more of your videos.
Hi Kay! Welcome. These are the projects I enjoy the most! Thank you for watching. Barry
I love your history lessons!!! I am a nerd for that stuff!!
Thank you. I hope to do more of that. Really enjoyed your collaboration with Jay at FlippingDrawers
Wow, what a comeback for such a beautiful dresser. Bet your cat appreciated it’s new toys.
Thank you, Philomena.
Barry
Stay warm🔥.
With the heater I can get the garage temp to 70. Hoping I'll survive the winter! Thank you for the support Neil. You're always one of the first to comment. Barry

Hi Amy. I was surprised by the quality of this piece
@@MadCityModern those are the kind of surprises any flipper is giddy to get!
Absolutely stunning transformation!! I can imagine that it looks just as beautiful as it did when new. Great job!!!
Stunning natural beauty! Thank you for restoring these amazing pieces of furniture.
Thank you for watching!
I’m blown away by the beauty of this brass, and the revealed wood grain underneath the paint. I love your videos, especially your attention to the details of the piece of furniture.
I am so in love with MCM furniture. I feel it is so timeless. Just beautiful work.
I agree!
Wow. Thank you for this great comment. Angie is a great friend!
@@MadCityModern That's awesome! 🤍

That is a beautiful dresser. You definitely have an eye for seeing the beauty of a piece under all that paint.
Thank you so much
Honestly, I love your soft voice and the way you edit your video
Wow. Thank you for such a nice comment. Barry
Gorgeous. Bringing it back to its original beauty.
Thank you for watching.
Barry
I am so happy you decided NOT to put on a dark stain, that you let the natural color and beauty of the wood show through. Thanks for the video. Jon
Thank you, Jon.
Barry
OMG, you did such an incredible job on this piece!! Beautiful work!
So many antique vibes from the furniture and you. I loved this all!

Thank you. Angie does an amazing job.

"You're right and here's a better look at it!" Love it and the piece looks amazing
Hi Kim : ) Love that you caught this comment. Thank you for watching. So glad you discovered the channel. Feel free to say hello on IG. Barry
Beautiful restoration.... I'm all for painted furniture, but some people have to learn when to leave it be.... it was so satisfying seeing the paint being scraped off!
Hi Ed. Thank you for the feedback. I agree, scraping paint is very satisfying. Barry
Paint stripping is so satisfying to watch. Must be even more satisfying to do 😂🤤🤣… the way things look when they’re finished really is impressive. How gorgeous.
So satisfying to see it happen
My great aunt painted a three tier solid mahogany table weathered white. When I get my hands on it I’m going to restore it to its former beauty.
Love seeing this. Thank you for the support. Barry
@@MadCityModern I do have a question for you, what would you suggest to use as a finish. I’ve been using modern clear polyurethane, but I feel like something like that should be done with an old fashioned method. I’m just not sure what finish to use on old things like that.
