@@nonna0157 the scream stretched across all known time (from the big bang - the start of the universe, to the heat death - the theorized end of our universe) and the guardian was somehow out of step despite being destroyed by the same event as the ghost. the event itself blew them apart in every sense of the word.

so how i got it was that his ghost witnessed the longest death possible in the universe. (from the big bang to the heat death. Thus if this is a time manipulation field, this ghost have suffered for 14.7 billion years - infinite years the few seconds the ship passed through

When I learned that Titan was Joxer, it made his death all the more saddening. But it is nice to see lore characters getting more screen time... even though two of them are now dead. RIP Joxer and Reed-7.

You know, I can't help but wonder about Crow's ship. The Traveler gives him a ship that breaks the laws of the universe, and nobody has wondered if this might be the reason? Like, what if Crow was given the Accipitor as some sort of 'break glass in case of emergency' type deal?
It would at least pick up that plot thread.

What happened when Joxer crossed the portal was, almost, word for word, identical to what some physicists believe could happen when crossing into a blackhole. That you could see the light from the big bang, and you would see the heat death of the universe rush into view
That was my exact thought. Iirc you'd be stretched out via spaghettification and would see all of the past and future. Weird stuff
It seems like the portal has the same effect as the event horizon of a black hole. Taking up your vision until the point from which you came looks like a sphere
Similar yes but there wouldn't be any retrieval of anything. We'd never know he was even dead because once you cross that boundary, nothing can ever escape it. So it might be similar but we found the wreckage and his body fused with the hull. That implies that information can be retrieved from it. Far as we know the only way information can ever leave a blackhole is via hawking radiation, but this thing spat back out things generally in the same way it went in (beyond the obvious warping of it).
@@solidicone My thought was that maybe Joxer didn't die from that as much aswhat happened afterwards was impercievable to him his ghost and everything. After all he said the ghost was coming apart at the SEAMS. I'm pretty sure black holes don't do that. It sounds more like whatever this portal does is similar to what the witness does, makes things seperate at their most base structure. Remember the Glykon did this too, and when IT was morphing the gaurdian on it said he could feel the ship stretching, morphing, coming apart from thevery bolts and then building itself backtogether. You can actually apply this to what happened. Joxer didn't just feel the present, he was feeling the past AND the future. If yopu imagine time as a string that meant whatever this was was doing something to him and his time line as the glykon, taking moments in his existence and stretching them
@solidicone actually as of late the idea of what's to happen to you when you enter a black hole is currently being questioned in the scientific community but they also think it's a portal that links one universe to another
The time between "The moment of the big bang to the heat death of the universe" is roughly 1.7x10^106 years.
That is 17 with 106 zeroes after it.
Lets just say that Joxars ghost did not enjoy that.
Him catching up to his scream is such a cool detail that I only really got the meaning of the second time I read it
@Lettuce go in a nutshell it meant that he saw a few seconds into the future where he died, and then he died
He also saw the heat death of the universe, 100 trillion years into the future, where all existence is only occupied by black holes
@Lettuce go it means that while his ghost was screaming. He experienced a lot within a very short time frame, that felt very long. When it finished, he finally was able to snap back to the current situation
The "Akashic record" being accessible through meditation might give us an explanation as to how Ikora was present (seemingly) inside the portal with cayde on the final shape teaser, or in the very least how she was able to communicate with him through it. She is infamous for achieveing these "higher states of mind" after all, the European Aerial Zone being a tangible example of it.
As for the video/lore itself, dear God that was some SERIOUS cosmic horror concepts being thrown. As soon as the entry said "Eric" i knew we would be dealing with time shenanigans and when the Ghost's scream "streched through the big bang all the way to the heat death of the universe" and Joxer "caught up to his own scream" i unironically had goosebumps.
Poor Joxxer. The guy went through so much awful stuff, just to end up as a mangled mess in space.

Well, it's even more fucked up that one of the most powerful beings we know/knew of, was forced to help with the extinction of her own species by Mara Sov. The same Mara Sov that is the one "ally" of us that we trust the most

Titans fall to ethereal horrors, hunters get punched to death, and warlocks get assassinated. It’s why a complete fireteam can watch each others backs :)

I wonder if, while the Veil forged a link, the pyramid ships were the actual key to stabilizing the temporal distortion, since they do utilize gravity as a weapon, which does influence time when it's strong enough
The pyramids ships were made before the witness people became enemies with the traveveller, its just the shape they chose to build their ships into

The pyramid ships all had Radial masts aboard them. The same one that was covered in flowers when the Traveler blasted the pyramid ship that held Nezarec. They nullified the light of the Traveler along with the Veil's link which helped to open the portal. The veil = the Winnower. The Traveler = The Gardener.
When the 2 combine, the portal leads to the realm of the Garden. Where
the 2 beings first played their game.

Joxer hearing his past life before being a guardian is probably the wildest thing I’ve heard in Lightfall so far
he will be remembered as the no drip titan forever
The Traveller and Veil met at the point of the portal. It doesn’t surprise me that on the Veil side of things (as the manifestation of darkness), there’s a rush of darkness related happenings, fragments of memories returning in an instant. Darkness is order, and memory is a record, an account of things, the quantifying of everything. That Joxer went splat at the convergence of order and chaos (in the form of the Traveller) sounds quite understandable really! Like having the order of your cells completely randomised in the space of a single moment. Whiplash at a fundamental level.
Joxxer's Ghost's scream and Joxxer's scream are different, based on the wording. The ghost's scream was from the beginning to the end of the universe, Joxxer's was from what I imagine was one of his last experiences before become a guardian (Eric's end, Joxxer's beginning), to his final experience, his scream. His ghost is an extension of the Traveller, an entity that likely exists independent of the universe (I'm not wording this as precisely as I'd like, but it's close to what I mean). Has existed from it's start and will exist until its end. If the portal collapses your existence into a temporal "singularity" of sorts, it makes sense that Joxxers' would be the cumulative experiences of his time as a guardian, but his ghost's experiences, as being tied to the traveller, being a tiny piece of it, might span the breadth of the universe. Really interesting and cool lore stuff, either way.
And here I thought it was Reed-7 but Reed-7 is the one that got sliced

Indian Hindu here and my brother's name is Akash. Akash means sky/boundlessness/ether.
But the origin of the word goes even deeper. It is said to have multiple origins - From the languages Tamil and Sanskrit.
In Ancient Tamil the word is Aakaayam: Aa-Kaay-am (Aa - the prefix denotes something far away and highly valuable. It also represents boundlessness; Kaay - In Tamil it refers to the Black Sky & Kaayam - Cosmos) The english word Sky is derived from Kaay
In Sanskrit the word Akash is said to be derived from the word kas. The derivation simply goes: kas-kos-cos-cosmos
Also, fun fact - I remember taking one of my first ever hindu spirituality classes. It was all about how every single being in existence across the universe are all connected by invisible threads and through meditation you can "travel along those threads" and bungie straight up made a grapple melee out of the concept xD

@ObsoleteVodka The Witness was also blessed with the light. They know both perspectives of light and dark. They use the darkness to oppose the light bearers who want to stop their plan to end it all.
That is why they can enter the portal.
We can enter the portal because we now know both perspectives of light and dark. Not just being able to wield their powers.
(The witness is reffered to as "we" so It makes sense to call the witness a they/them)
My guess as to what is happening right now is that the traveler, being paracausal and all, already has access to all of time basically, but the witness did not. Thus, the Witness used the veil, with it's strand powers, to be able to look into the "memory" of the traveler, to be able to find the exact spot it was looking for, then opening the portal
Where Joxer went wrong is that he did not know where or when he was going.
So maybe we will need to relink the veil, to do as the Witness did, and see to when we need to go

Something to note, the cutscene titan might not actually have been Joxer. Joxer is described to have been wearing full gambit prime armor. In the lore, it is described that they sent in multiple attempts to try to cross through the portal the witness left, so while the titan in the cutscene might not have been Joxer, Joxer's lore entry still described what the experience was probably like.
It's him. Says so on the ship at rank 16 on the Sonar station.
He could've discarded his gambit attire after quitting gambit and wore this gereric titan armor to show his loyalty to the vanguard. Or maybe he spent too much time playing gambit he didn't unlock anything else 😂.
He kept the spoils of his time in Gambit, but... it doesn't say he has to wear them

I bet the Witness didn't even know his own end state, the Final Shape, and that's why it wanted to traverse the Portal.
Maybe a random hypothesis: Joxer experienced everything at once. He went in without something specific in mind. Maybe in order to survive a journey through this spacetime portal, we need to have some kind of meditation on our end goal, something specific in mind to focus the energies that shoot us through time.
I have never been a huge lore junkie in this game and I've played for 9 years. Coming to the end of the story I have payed more attention and wow, the lore tabs in this game are amazing. Thanks for this video, this lore actually shocked me of how this story could go over the next couple seasons 😁

In the leaks before the trailer was announced, they said Cayde was kinda coming back as a spirit guide for some new activity. So he's still very much dead.

I'd normally agree, but this is paracausal, for all we know Joxer might've stayed dead ghost alive, or no. Or his ghost could've just been ripped asunder due to the strands of universe connecting the two with him entering the portal.
@Lettuce go nope. Ghosts pull a stored blueprint of their risen dead. Which is why we remember each time being risen after dying.

After reading the Akashic Revelation lore tab last week I have been waiting for Byf to put out a video covering it. Great video as always.
When a guardian dies permanently it’s always feels weird to see them go. A near immortal being having there light go out in weird ways like through drifters game feels weird or should be a big deal

I’ve always had this idea one of the cutscenes in the final shape should be of our guardian during the collapse. Like why they ended up in the cosmodrome. This gives me hope that maybe it will happen
I can see Ikora being the first through the portal. As she crosses, she accesses the memory of Cayde-6 and pulls it through to the other side, physical form fashioned from the fusion of primordial light and dark. (That could be why he looks taken)
Her having a deeper connection to the Traveler and touching the dark with the memory of the worm gods, I see her becoming a kind of sage.
One thing to note, is that the portal also kind of acts like a black hole (which also is theorized to be a wormhole). When joxer goes near the portal, the purple glow goes all around him and also kind of warps time like a black hole, but since it doesn’t allow anyone in, it would be more like a white hole.

I've been super attached to these lore characters and I always look forward to seeing them pop up again. It really does feel like dark times. Reed-7 still hurts
The way that was described was lowkey horrifying. Almost seems as if coming in contact with the portal he had that “life flashing before his eyes” moment and maybe his and his ghost screaming was just background noise before he went out. That’s also sad if he got to see his forgotten past as he died
I still think that the witness created a portal to a place where the physical (light) and metaphysical (darkness) are merged into one, a place like the garden where it could shape the fate of reality from a previous era. Where the traveler is like a bank of all physical properties possible, the veil is likely a bank of all psychic energies and serves as a sort of afterlife which is probably how ecumene civilizations communed with their ancestors through dark artifacts.
I wonder if we put a citizen of neomuna through the portal digitally they will still be able to live because the problem with joxxer is that gravity can greatly affect him, but a non physical body could maby walk through??
My theory is that Joxer had basic gear on cause he threw out all his Gambit prime armor, because who plays gambit anymore lol
Now I'm kinda bummed that Joxer wasn't wearing some of that classic Gambit armor that The Drifter has teased him for still wearing. Instead of a monochrome "RedWar_Titan.png"
Had to listen twice at different times because his vision upon approaching and entering the portal forced me to write down plot for DnD. Damn terrifying it was.

I don't think the portal is messing with time, I think it's messing with memory. Memories that once were, memories that are, and memories that are yet to come.

Who’s to say that this portal opens to a specific place and time? Maybe it leads everywhere all at once, and trying to use it without having a set destination is what ends in disaster.

It's like one of the guardian that was sliced in the opening lightfall cutscene was Reed-7 which is interesting.
Every thought ever thought exists as a memory in the field. And you can reach some kind of enlightenment by having a near-death experience too. In other words, by dying and coming back with knowledge from beyond the veil. Because by dying you are no longer bound by physicality, you are closer to the source, meaning whatever is, universally, you become. If you can return from that experience, you return with that as part of yourself that in turn becomes a revelation or the fall of the veil.
The other part that this video reminded me of is the concept of light and dark, the yin and yang. In every being of light, there is always a mote of darkness and in every being of darkness, there is always a mote of light.
Light is related to the physical, to the sun, the thing that maintains form, that gives structure. And is related to the masculine.
Darkness is related to the formless, meaning thoughts, dreams, and emotions. It is related to the moon and manifests through the feminine, through the womb, the void of space.
I love this kind of thing. The story of Destiny is becoming very appealing to me right now.
Witness must have a grudge against Titans. Dude also cut to pieces that one Titan during the opening Cinematic for Lightfall.

The portal is a unity of light and darkness, or the metaphysical and the physical. If the veil was once described as a window into the memories of the universe than this portal could well be a means to have complete control over the universe itself

Whenever destiny lore is finished, I would LOVE it if you wrote a book(s) on all the lore. Kinda like the simirilian from lotr. I'd buy it in a heartbeat
I doubt we’ll see it but it would be really cool to see our character prior to their death. Maybe a slightly different origin based on whether you play as an exo, human, or awoken.
Last time we messed with time travel stuff we got a cool Russian out of it, also saw our grave but still.
Really the bar’s been set low enough with the story in LightFall there’s loads of room to improve.
The only disrespect Joxer got was not having a custom character rather than a default titan, could’ve made his final debut at least a bit more interesting…
I really wish bungie would have some fun with non player guardians. I like the idea of them wearing a complete set but let's give them a full trials load out or full raid set or in this case a full set of the invader armor maybe. Make us feel like we know the type of guardians we see.
So, fun astronomy theory time: there's a hypothesis about black holes that hinges on the event horizen being a 'library' of the universe in compressed dimensions. Each one is essentially a record of every single instant in the universe from start to finish. Imagine that concept being forced THROUGH you all at once. Joxer/Eric just got the universe rammed into his unfortunate brain-hole at lightspeed.
Flying his ship into it is a very titan way of thinking.

I think that joxa (or whatever titans name is ) he went into the portal without something to set a destination .... so he went throught all time in an instant the whitness may survived the journey because she had a fixed destination.... so .. she simply went from point a to b..

when the traveller opened up and hyperbeamed the pyramid ship it reminded me of a vex gate. So maybe it is a gateway to both the past and future?
boy first ff14 introduced akasha in the form of dynamis now destiny too in the form of the darkness, its weird that it has happened twice now. If in final shape we go to the end of the universe im gonna be shocked
also, now that we have all this info im thinking, if the Veil is a Darkness based metaphysical record of the memory of the universe, would the Traveler be the same but for the physical side of things?

The akashic records are also some times used as a memory book of legendary heros and keeps a record of all history
I really want Byf to do a series on individual named guardians, but only after they die so the whole story is laid out

That lore entry was terrifying to visualise, but it's interesting that the portal seems to give anyone who passes through a sort of comfort before their death with allowing them to remember their past life, and I wonder what would have happened if Joxer and his Ghost had survived, would Joxer have even been Joxer anymore and instead this Eric, but also what did his Ghost experience, obviously great pain but.... why?
This also makes me wonder if, in the final season before The Final Shape, we'll figure out a way to get through the portal, and I actually have a bit of theory as to what that could be.....
Perhaps we'll use the veil to slingshot us through the portal rather than simply flying through it. Or have it create sort of a bridge to allow us to pass through unharmed, but maybe we'll still be affected with the portal showing us our past before we were Guardians. I'd like to think of this a bit like how warping works in Warhammer 40K, I'm still new to that, but I found out that for people to travel or warp, they must travel through in a way, hell, being at risk of being possessed. Now, I'm not sure that the portal in Destiny will behave in the same manner and try to possess us, but perhaps it might try to tempt us in a way.
Now I could, and most likely, be completely wrong about everything I've said, but we could see almost anything happen. After all, who thought we'd see Cayde again?

Plot twist : we get to the other side and see the witness's lifeless corpse floating there, fused together with its ships and other materials, long long dead and no longer capable of doing anything.

Another game I played that had an akashic record was pso2, it was also a record of the universe, but how it told the events were altered and twisted, so i wouldn't trust the veil if it's gonna anything like pso2 (also the way you had to access it was it was inside a black hole and you had to stop time to safely enter it)

I always thought joxxer would have gambit armor since he was very close to the drifter
The akashic record is sometimes in mythos and stories as a record of the universe and all that has and will happen and supposedly accessing it gives you near omniscient insight into all reality if you can handle it
well... we as the players and/or story followers, definitely learned something. but we, as the in-game character guardians, the Vanguard and our other allies, i don't think they learned anything, unless they can also read that lore tab or watch your video :D
