This is hands down the best version of this song.. I don't think it can be topped. He is amazing in the band Audioslave (check out "Like a Stone", "Cochise" or "Show Me How To Live").

The band he was in for Say Hello to Heaven was Temple of the Dog, in case you search it. Temple of the Dog also featured the future lead singer of Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, singing alongside Chris Cornell in the anthemic rock ballad Hunger Strike. Highly recommend both!

Chris Cornell's performance is powerful, his voice to second to none. Sinead's is heartbreaking and raw. For me, it's Hard to pick a favorite, I like them both.

Chris Cornell’s version haunting cause this was released pre post him committing suicide I think. So raw emotion in his version. I will say being a huge Prince fan and seeing Prince preform his/this song many times over live…NOTHIN COMPARES to Prince’s live version. Big ups to you for having the Purple Rain picture disc on you wall!

There are tons of great Chris Cornell songs. One that I would suggest is Beyond the Wheel live from Germany in 1990. In his early days, Chris had crazy amazing range, and it is a great example of that.

Black Rain is probably one of his most powerful songs as far as vocals. He wails throughout.

It depends. He is a versatile vocalist. If you incredible heavy vocals, check "I Awake", "Slaves and Bulldozers" and "Cold Bitch" by Soundgarden. If You want heavy blues/70's style check "Call Me a Dog", "Times of Trouble" and "Four Walled World" by Temple of the Dog. If you want a little of both, Audioslave and his solo projects are good.

I thought you guys were Aussies there for a second when you both said "no worries". Loved the reaction. You should listen to Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden or just Chris's solo version. Any are good. Also "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog. It is Chris singing with the Pearl Jam band, and Eddie Vedder is guest vocalist. For more Chris covers, try Bob Marley's "Redemption Song", Led Zeppelin's "Thank You", The Beatles "A Day in the Life" or John Lennon's "Imagine". Oh, and of course Chris does a great cover of U2's song "One" using the lyrics of Metallica's "One".
Even his most recent released recording since his death, his cover of GnR's Patience is another steller example of how his haunting vocals completely change the feel of a song.
His 2nd band is called Audioslave it's the guys from Rage Against the Machine but with Cornell as lead singer, their song Cochise is worth a listen his scream in that some is legendary. Soundgarden Slaves and Bulldozers, and Temple of the Dog Say Hello to Heaven are also big showcases of his voice.

If you are loving Chris - and its pretty hard not too he was a legend - another great tune to check out is with his 2nd band Audioslave "Like a Stone" - I'd recommend either the studio or for more chills listen to him do it solo acoustic. "Say Hello to Heaven" and "Call me Dog" are both awesome follow-ups to that. It is well worth diving down a Chris Cornell rabbit hole - he is one of the best o the nest to come out of the 90's. Man, even going back and watching him do "Black Hole Sun" solo acoustic will blow your mind.
