Unrefurbished Metrocar 4002 on the Yellow Line

- Wednesday 3rd August 2022 saw Unrefurbished, and prototype metrocar 4002 appear on Yellow Line Services on Train 121.
The unrefurbs still active, (4002/4083/4040) at the time had a tendancy to stay exclusively on peak services and occasional green line ones, so them appearing on the yellow line was quite rare.
And after not riding 4002 since 2018, I thought that this was my moment to ride it before it gets withdrawn, so off out I went, to ride and spot, Metrocar 4002.

I still remember going on the dmu's 101 in and out of the tunnel well before we even got the Tyne and wear metro
Haven't been to north Shields since the changed the station. I have ta get myself doon to Shields and see what the new stations like
on friday i just got off a metro at jesmond and 4083 and 4040 literally just pulled in and i missed them ;-;
the unrefurbished trains could literally do normal services all the time just connect it to a refurb since the unrefurbs now have the refurb door tones etc
I believe something to do with the coupling means refurbished and unrefurbished units cannot couple. I’m not entirely sure though. I don’t see them lasting much longer anyway, they’ll probably be the first to leave for withdrawal, however 4001 and 4002 are set for preservation.
@@GarethsTravelVideos i mean normal ones could couple to 4040, 4001 and 4002 (maybe 4083)? in like 2010
@@HMPeterHearty7818 They can’t due to couplers being slightly different in terms of the electrics. They could prior to the Wabtec refurbishment, and infact can couple today, but they wouldn’t be able to go in service like that.

I normally never ride unrefurbs as I always miss them, which is unfortunate. I suggest joining a group on Facebook called "Tyne And Wear Metro Photography Group", where gen is often posted. That's how I figured out 02 was out.

Yeah it received the new alarm sometime in 2021 or 2022. 4040/83 also have the new alarm.
