    Hi Pamela. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. You have given us a lot of information including great detail on how the canopy is structured, how it fits on the trike and how it works in practice. I really appreciate it and now can give a canopy some meaningful thought. They certainly have more variation in setup than appears when watching a riding video. Keep safe.

    Thank you so much for this video! This is exactly what I'm looking for :-) I have a Catrike so I'm trying to figure out where to attach things. I'll tell you though, your one-handed video shooting Really makes this hard to see and follow. A tripod would fix that problem. But thank you no matter what!

    Getting prepared for next summer - just returned, watched your video again and then ordered a Vel top! I used a kayak Bimini last summer and found the idea works OK between 10.00 to 15.00. Before and after that time the sun sneaks onto your face but not all the time; bends in the road ensure a mix of sun angles. The Bimini was a little lightweight though and had some troubles with Tassie winds including a complete collapse at 40kph on a downhill run, so the Veltop will replace it.

    Good presentation of veltop canopy, Ms. Lexton. Beauty of Australia is all roads are paved, so you can ride safely. In USA it is not as good even in suburbs and small towns.

      I am not sure if you are talking about the bikeways we ride on being paved, or the actual roads. We try to ride on as many bikeways as we can, but I have no doubt there are a lot of unpacked bush tracks as well. We just choose to ride on good ones that are local to us. Some of the rail trails are not so user friendly for a road trike. Some have off road trikes and use these tracks. I am glad you liked the video.

    I was looking at your video to see how it attaches and what the rear mount works. I have the previous version that has a habit of failing (weld) in the attachment system. The new mounting system looks better for what I can see. I live on the West (we affectionately call it the Wet) Coast and I am more interested in the screen configuration. The old one works well on my ICE Trike but I have a new Azus Ti-Fly 20 and there will be some mounting issues that was why I wanted to get a better look at it. Thanks for the post.

      Veltop are very helpful to deal with. initially we had clearance problems and they sent us different mounts and longer front poles. I suggest talking with them with any issues and they should be able to resolve for you. I made this video because I wanted to show how easy they are to dismantle on the run and every time I posted a video with our canopies someone would ask about them. Good luck with yours.

      @@downunderrecumbenttrikeven6967 I did contact Veltop before I bought the Azub and they were kind of flaky in their answer. They said that the seat attachment system would work, but it has the same flaw that the second generation Veltop had (a very similar weld). The problem with the Azub is in the design luggage/pannier racks (Azub ignored me as well). One thing I love about the second generation Veltop was that the fabric container/unit was easy to remove and put back on. I do that as a matter of practice a it stop excessive work hardening of the weld in question when not using the Veltop. I have looked at Veltops videos and they don't express that that quick removal is still there. The new version wind screen has some distinct advantages over the second generation model. From you video I can see that the rack mounting system is the same so I may end up modifying the rack. When it is pouring out the expedition Veltop is really nice an no one makes recumbent oriented rain gear. Thanks for the reply.

    Excellent video, great info👍... I have been thinking of getting a canopy (being in good old Blighty its for keeping the rain off rather than the sun, I think the sun did make a brief appearance two years ago😂) for my HP trike and was interested in the one you have.

    Hi ,
    My husbamd and i live in Texas, USA, and we have Veltops canopies on our recumbent trikes. I enjoyed your video because it gave us some other ideas about how to combat the wind. Also, where did you get the canopy for your dog trailer? We have a similar trailer for our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It gets way too hot in the sun for her. Thanks, Cheryl Magill

    • @downunderrecumbenttrikeven6967
      @downunderrecumbenttrikeven6967  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      HI CHERYL, I made the canopy by reversing the handles that attach to the trailer (they have a pivot point which allowed me to do this) to make it a pram, and then cabled tied a piece of ply to the top, which i glued some house insulation to. i add a spare set of veltop front poles for the front poles, but you could use fibreglass tent poles in a casing with velcro to attach.

      We just like the versatility of being able to take them off on the run should the need arise., but would have to be very windy for us to do that.

      It was a couple of years ago, but from memory it was fairly quick. I think under two weeks, but covid is now the great excuse for anything to take longer. We love ours. Going on a group ride tomorrow. One thing we did add was a quick release on the back bracket. We leave the bottom bracket attached to the back bike rack and the upper part of the bracket which is adjustable in height we put a quick release on. Makes life easier when transporting our trikes in our van.

    So they copied Ed Miller's Leaf Canopy?

    • @downunderrecumbenttrikeven6967
      @downunderrecumbenttrikeven6967  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Veltop’s canopy has been around a lot longer. No copying involved. They are completely different. Ours has two vertical poles at the front, completely different attachment systems and has a pocket in the back part of the canopy to stow the front part of it, if it gets windy. I don’t know why you would say such a thing.

      They're not rude just inconsiderate. We are strangers on the Internet, Pam, put in a situation where we can see aspects of another stranger's (more or less) private life.
      Truthfully, if someone wants to help you they will say *might I suggest a tripod* but here we are take it as they say it.

      James never had a problem being in my videos. He did however have health issues which impacted on him so some days he wasn’t 100 % well. He has since passed away from these issues😢 Riding gave him the freedom to get out of the house and was his happy place.

      Oh my god, Pam, I'm so sorry! I myself had to choose between a mobility scooter or an ebike to get around. I chose the ebike in hopes of getting better. So far it seems to be working.

      @runkurgan James had a portable mobility scooter as well ( Travelscoot) . He had COPD. His whole world changed for the better for getting out and seeing the beauty there was to see around our city and local neighbourhood. He always used to say when we went out, “ we always see something good when we go out”. I live by those words. His legacy to me. In his last year of life we followed a few swan families raising their cygnets. Such a beautiful thing. But we never really got to see them fly. Yesterday on a visit to the lakes with my riding buddies, we stopped to have breakfast. We were rewarded by seeing the current swan family doing laps around the lake. That was the ‘“ something good” . I hope you see many “something good “ things on your outings. Take care.
