@kite10397 the leaf suspected, correctly, that the uchiha clan was planning to take over the village. the events leading to that were explained in a episode or two and i won't tell them all cause it'd take forever with only 500 characters a comment plus i've spoiled too much for everyone else already

@kite10397 ok it turns out itachi was ordered to kill the uchihas by the leaf village as a mission. but he couldn't kill his brother, he begged the leaf to spare sasuke, became a rouge ninja, and lived to be hated by sasuke to make sasuke stronger to protect the leaf. He prolonged his life with medication so that he could fight and die against sasuke in hopes that sasuke would then be satisfied and return to the leaf. Itachi is the kindest because he gave everything for his village and brother.

He had a strong dark side...if he chose he can be very cruel. he almost killed 12 years sasuke, sasuke only saved by tsunade's help another thing is not any people have the ability to kill their own parents. In his character's analysis said that he was that kind of intelligent person with lake of empathy. He could kill at a very young age that even surprised kakashi, gai and his father.
Y'know Itachi raises one major question, how the hell do the Akatsuki cloaks work?!? Y'see I always thought it was just a zip, but here he disproves it by having his cloak work with *poppers* (thats what I call em anyway), so my big question is, how do the Akatsuki cloaks work?!?

Personally, I think making Itachi have the whole living soap opera was a last minute decision to add more use to Sasuke's character now that Itachi's rotting 6 feet under.
