    Not saying it will or not for everyone but the hook threw me first listen, probably because of expectations. After a few listens it definitely grew on me to the point where I love it, and definitely falls in-line with the “pink” venom concept. So damn sassy and hard. End of the day, I was entertained. Thanks for your genuine reaction.

    Lisa paid homage to Rihanna
    There is some others apparently an eazy e one, Taylor swift that I didn’t quite catch.
    I understand what you mean by the chorus. I agree with you. I did expect a bit more from them personally. But I don’t hate it.

    Like so many I was there for the live premiere and when the countdown hit zero and PV started my jaw dropped and stayed dropped - until the chorus. I honestly didn't know what to think because it felt like the song suddenly deflated then skyrocketed again with the Jenlisa rap lines. Up then down again and at the end I didn't quite know how to take it. I listened to it again and it hit me completely differently and I realized that it was an iconic Teddy earworm that like others have said works like magic. It's the part of the track that I wake up at night singing in my head. This song has pushed Don't Know What to Do out of first place for me and I can't get enough of it. Pink Venom describes this perfectly.

    It's weird though, when I first listened to it, the chorus got me hooked. I loved the chorus and how simple the choreo was for that part too, it was very nice. And then everything fell into place. But yeah everyone just has a different taste in music. But the chorus was like A+ for me!

      @@kianasoleitherivera8048 What is interesting about the chorus is that the audio AND the choreography of the chorus goes hand to hand to stick to the theme of the song (pink venom):
      1) the girls swaying right and left create this hypnotic feeling associated with snakes. (and obviously you cannot have a HARD beat drop if you want to convey this sway aspect)

    Would they have gone for their usual bombastic hard hitting hook, everybody would have complaint, that its just the same old formula. Now they're going for something different for the hook (even paying homage to classic hip hop) and everybody complaints that it is to different and not hard hitting enough. Same back when their album released. "How You Like That" got bashed for being to familiar. "Lovesick Girls" got bashed for being to different. Today both are considered among their best title tracks. But with a new release they really can't win regardless of what they do. For me the hook in Pink Venom also doesn't work, but I get and respect what they did there. Its just not exactly my personal taste. Still very happy with the release.

    This song and video have been a global smash, breaking records left and right, but yet so many reactors have had to address the enormous amount of negativity in their comment sections. It's obvious that BP has become a very polarizing group, almost from the start. But haters seem to be on an agenda to intensify their campaign. Of course there's no denying that Blinks have also have gotten too spoiled with their unrealistic expectation from the group. Combine the two, then we have a situation where the narrative focuses too much on the negativity. What's often ignored is that BP's popularity still continues to grow despite their lack of material.

      BP's music really relies on catchy hooks in their chorus and a bunch of filler words. That's really all there is, which makes sense why people would hate or criticize this song...bc it's the same thing as all the others. It's also the reason why all I see are people commenting on the chorus bc that's evidently the most interesting part of the song compared to all the other parts of the song, like the pre-chorus and the bridge, which are just lazy melodies that sound really awkward; it's just some random vocal line that doesn't make sense with the song.

      its not an unrealistic expectation wanting the artists you like to evolve and become more involved in the creative process. especially with a group that is guaranteed success whether their music is good or not (evident when they sell out before the music is even heard). some groups are out here writing and producing their own music, doing incredible full out choreography and yet theyre not respected because they dont have marketing on their side nor movie deals and endorsements to carry them.

I got into kpop through SKZ and haven't really vibed with a lot of group's sound, but I liked Lisa's solo project and made a point to look out for any new release from the group. They didn't disappoint me. Was it a song to make me think about deep life issues? No. But it didn't need to be, not every song needs to do that. Sometimes you just want a sassy feel good song and this is the vibe I got from this. I love the visuals of the video. I am not blown away, but I am intrigued and I want to hear the rest of the album. *I guess as I go back into their catalogue I'll see - or hear - how it stacks up to their other releases?

Having said all that - this doesn't show a lot of growth in their music, like if they were a rookie group in their 2nd year then yes but they're not. I think the hook is a grower. It's not hard as the rest of the song but I think that's what they were going for . The hook is their "pink" side of their concept while the rest of the song is the "black" concept. Sort of like an anti drop but not totally an anti drop if that makes sense

  • @cvn72abe
    @cvn72abe 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree. The hook in the chorus didn’t grab me right away but it did grow on me after a few listens. In “how you like that” the verses were pink and the chorus was black. In this song, it’s reversed with the verses being black and chorus being pink. I understand why they went this way because if they kept repeating the same formula all the time people will eventually lose internet in their music. I noticed after watching several other reaction channel reviews of Pink Venom is that the channels who have never listened to Kpop before did not have issue with the chorus. It was mainly the channels who have been Blackpink fans for a long time that had issues with the chorus. I felt the same way when I first heard “How you like that”. I didn’t like it at first because I was expecting it to sound like “kill this love” and “ddu” but after a few listens it became my most favorite song of Blackpink. And after a few listens of “Pink Venom” it is now my most favorite song of Blackpink. And I’ve literally watch this music video over a dozen times now. So the producers know what they’re doing. And I’m really excited in what comes out next from Blackpink.

    There are Blinks who like 'Crazy over you' and who don't.
    Those who love this song (myself including) definitely like 'Pink Venom' as well. This is all we wanted, another classic Blackpink banger with unique sound, especially in low frequencies.
    Those who don't like Pink Venom most likely they don't like Crazy Over You too. Most of them probably listen Blackpink music on laptop speakers.
    Those who like PV but don't like COY they should give it another listen. They may find out why many of us call Crazy Over You the best song in The Album in terms of sound production.
    Another way to describe Blinks is those who listen to kpop and who listen to Blackpink only.
    Someone should make a venn diagram out if this 😉
    Me personally I'm Blackpink only and everything related to these 4 ladies. Also like K/DA (all songs but one). NMIXX sound is very promising. Recently I'm listening only instrumental versions and some good mashups and remixes. I wonder if there are more people with similar profile as mine.

It seems like they could have reworded it and made it more dynamic even with the same beat. Like these girls are powerful. With the title they could have done better by them

    I like the chorus, and the song in general. But I like the rap parts far more than the vocal lines. 1080p with the snake reference. If it's a python, does that mean it's going to slowly strangle you? And you'll realize you love it in a few weeks when the hook suddenly pops into your head?

    Personally, the part that disappointed me was the final stretch and the closing (the "ratatata") I think it was unnecessarily long and could have been better 🤔 but still i really liked the inclusion of the Korean instrument gayageum, also that Arab/Egyptian sound that is heard in some parts and finally the fact that Jennie participated with Lisa in the rap also seemed very successful
    👍🏻

    I think that the hook was made in purpose like that, telling us to taste it with that sweet voice, Teddy knew what he was doing. And it was nice change, their hook it's usually made in a strong voice(D4, Hylt, etc.). It can't be liked by everyone but as BP's members said, this song represents them, honestly, Teddy is like another BP's member

    I can't believe I'm defending this since I don't really like the song, but I kinda liked the pared down chorus. It puts more focus on the verses. It's even more apparent that the chorus isn't the main part since it's only repeated once, which is pretty unusual.

    I like the rest of the song, but the chorus still doesn't hit for me after several listens. I agree with what Dame said, it feels a bit too cutesy in a way that drives me away from a lot of 4th gen kpop, but the verses are fire. Their albums always have some gems, so I'll be there for it.

    • @GirlOfShips
      @GirlOfShips 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t think it’s cutesy at all, it’s really sassy! It really shows what they meant by “pink venom”… for me I think is a strong chorus but in a sassy, chill way lol

    When I first listen to the hook. I was the same. I wasn't feeling it but it was different from all their other hooks especially the tone Jennie and Lisa decided to sang in. It was different. To me the hook has to be listened to multiple times for you to start liking it, and start singing along with it.

    I think one of the things mainly about the editing of the video I don’t see anyone mentioning that bothered me is how many cuts it has. You have almost no time to take anything in, especially the choreo because it cuts every half a second or so. I enjoyed the video but man that editor could layoff a bit I feel.

    I wouldn't call the hook childish, I would call it simple. I think that they didn't want the hook to go as hard as the rest of the song because that section of the song is now a dance challenge on TH-cam. As far as the choreo goes we really only see it for the this that pink venom part which wouldn't be that strong since they would want everyone to be able to do it because of the challenge.
    Hopefully you guys will react to their song Ready for Love at some point.

    • @GirlOfShips
      @GirlOfShips 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely not childish, I actually think it’s a strong hook, but in a chill, sassy way. I loved it since the first time I listened to it! You can really see the ‘contrast’ concept of BlackPink through the song. I feel like the whole song (besides the hook) is more to the strong side, we have even guitar sounds, a strong rapping part but then the hook exhales sassy, spicy, venomous female energy… it’s chill, but also strong and feminine. All of that encompasses the BlackPink concept.

    • @gemmilyna2752
      @gemmilyna2752 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. Chorus was designed to be simple amd feminine because anyone can just relate and dance to it. I also see this new song as a unique way to tell everyone that blackpink can do everything and they can still surprise us with any transitions. Maybe they were thinking that we already predicted what it will sound like so instead, "nope its not" and that is okay. For me, this song keeps me dancing and very timely since this is the era of tiktoks where even kids or adults are joining in. This is relatable.

  • @vin3201
    @vin3201 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The hook is soft and the rest is hard because that was the point of the song. That they have 2 sides. Pink versus Venom and Black versus Pink. Also a Pre-release is for the world to see some who have never heard of Blackpink. That's why they blended many genres into one. They're basically showing off their range.

    I’m pretty sure the hook threw off everyone at first. Just like you guys said, it’s not expected for blackpink to have a minimal/empty chorus. I like that it was different tho, otherwise people would just complain about how it’s the typical Teddy copy and paste formula.

    This is a homage from Teddy and the girls to what influenced them to wanting to become artists. I got up to see it drop and I have never done that and truth be told I wish I hadn't. It took me 3 listens to get the chorus so I just listened not watching the MV and it worked that chorus is actually very well places that is why BP are so successful they never do what you think they will do.
    Jennie quoting Biggy Smalls was on point and as for the swing the coco the actual item you saw is the most expensive item you can ever own by Chanel. The red carpet is obvious she is nicknamed human Chanel.
    Lisa everyone knows that line came from RiRi and pon de replay. However the following line makes no sense can't get a dollar outa me. Is from 50 cents. The thing is pon de replay was released in 2005 blackpink did not launch until 2016 but with the girls using it the track has now got new fresh ears and my daughter who doesn't know Rihanna has now bought the original so instead of people accusing them of appropriation when it is inspiration and appreciation.
    The line from Rose look what you made us do is from TAYLOR SWIFT.
    The entire song is a an appreciation of what they love and Lisa is well known for living the old school style and vintage clothing
    There is references right through the song to BIG BANG to 2NE1.
    This is a pre-release which means it is a B SIDE and it has this much of an impact. Then the follow up is a doozy

    Yg needs to find better writers because black pink is a talented group of girls and yg gives them meaningless songs with no substance. If I waited two years for this I'd be upset. The girls are too talented for yg to do them like that. The video itself is cool but the song itself is just meh.

    The whole concept of Pink Venom is the nexus between soft and hard (like Blackpink itself), hence the hook is delivered softer in contrast to the harder verses. Please listen to the song again with this context.
