    I planted one of these trees in late 2013 by the end of summer 2014 it had barely grown about 8 inches. I cut it even with the dirt and it took a very rapid growth. It's now close to 18' tall. Love this tree.

    My neighbor gave me permission to dig up an established seeding from the huge 30' Royal Empress tree in her front yard...I put it into a 12' pot and within the next 24 hours it looked like it was going to wither away and die. I set it in the shade...out of direct sunlight and within a day or two, it began to perk up again. I tell it every day (yes, I talk to my plants) how happy I am that it will soon be planted in my back yard to offer much needed shade not to speak of enhancing the over all beauty! I appreciated this video so much and will refer back to it often. These trees are super-fast growing and I'm excited to own one.

      +Dewayne Marion one mistake I caught from sandy is that she put a newly transplanted plant in direct sun. Maybe you did too. This will surely wilt or kill an already shocked plant. A rule of thumb for planting or transplanting is to do it on an overcast day or move it to the shade for a couple days so it can recover. :)

    I did not care much for the tree but the music was great. Thanks for turning me on to it.

    IF you are still around, I bought two of these trees thinking that they grow so fast. Mine were about 6in. tall and had big leaves on them. Was told to plant in full sun, so I did with one, but it got so wilted and drooped over, next day about dead. The other I put in a container it is doing way better then the first one. Now the first one is just a small stick looking thing with about one half inch out of the ground, do you think it will come back? What do you recommend? Thanks

      Tim Thomas yes. in fact I have seen growers say you need to cut the plant at the base after first year growth to strengthen the roots and it grows tall and straight 2nd year

    Those are the weirdest looking trees. They remind me of Dr. Seuss trees. They don't look like they ever give good shade which is funny since their leaves are so big early on.

    Very invasive a pain to get rid of, the roots sprout new trees.

    • @jgoodman888
      @jgoodman888 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not all of them are invasive. The Paulownia elongata is not. It is actually difficult to start by seed and does not have suckers from roots. Neither the elongata nor the tormentosa sprout from the root. Too many people go on about its invasiveness, They are not as invasive as privet/ligustrum, some holy, or Yuccas or mulberry trees. The most invasive out there are cedar and pines. All of these have seeds that birds and squirrels eat and poop out everywhere and their digestive system helps them flourish where ever they land. Royal empress aren't as bad as their reputation says they are.

    • @reesaserik3759
      @reesaserik3759 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jgoodman888 I agree with Jerry. Pines grow here in Southeast Texas, naturally, and I have to run over them with the lawn mower every time I cut grass -- there are no pines within site of where I live; yet they keep popping up. As do the oaks -- all kinds of oaks -- everywhere, but we do have them in the neighborhood, so I know where they are coming from. I love Mimosas (Japanese Silk Wood), I've got several. They are considered invasive because they were brought over from Japan. But I don't care. I run over the ones I don't want with the lawn mower, or whack them with the weed eater. If other people don't want them, they can run over them too. I am going to get one of the Empress trees because I just love flowering trees, and I like trees that I can handle aggressively. I severely cut back the mimosa's every winter, almost down to the trunk and they come back thicker the next year with even more flowers. I also have wisteria -- which aggressively grows and spreads by root and seed. I aggressively cut it back as well and it comes back strong with more flowers. I think of it as a battle; I attack and they keep coming back strong! So I am going to have a go at the Empress. And for everybody complaining about the invasiveness -- humans are an invasive species as well.

    Its because of that growth rate that makes those trees invasive...

    • @joshualovelace9161
      @joshualovelace9161 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not live in North Texas, but in Southwestern Wisconsin. It is an invasive species within Wisconsin, particularly in forests, uplands, wetlands, and various disturbed places. This is a problem, because it quickly colonizes by seed and readily resprouts after fire, which is an integral component to maintaining the overall health of certain fire-dependent ecosystems within southern Wisconsin. They can tolerate dry sites in Wisconsin too.

      I have actually,I bought the seeds last year just to see how good they are,you get the informations from expert how to grow it for different purposes.The seeds are very tiny so you can't "plant" it,you just grab them with your fingers and spill it on the soil the same way you would salt a meat,and then just spray it with water.You do the spraying 1-2 times per day depending on weather.Best to hatch the seeds indoors.After a couple of days they will hatch and when they grow leef the size of your nail,then you replant them one by one in small cups.When they reach the hight of about 15 cm they are ready to be planted in the yard,and the should start growing rapidly.I want those trees for firewood so I choped it down after the first winter so he can grow again but this time it'll grow higher,wider and stronger.After about 4 years you can get one cubic of firewood from one tree,and for me that will save a lot of money.Also it is true that when you chop it down,after it regrows it has bigger leafes,mine has like 1m diameter,and it is soo good for making a shade in summer

      Do you mean does it makes those sounds when it's burning?Well I am not sure,but if you are burning the tree's trunk and it is fairly dried it shouldn't pop.The drying takes up to 50 days to dry out completely.For the quality I can just say that my neighbor plants Royal Empress for 6 years now.He chopped down the first generation of 30 grown R.E. 2 years ago and he payed 0 money on firewood since then.He said that this tree is a miracle.It burns two times better as the standard firewood we used to use which is Beech.It has a very dense structure and it contains double as much calories as Beech.Also he is planning to make charcoal from it cause here in my country you use a shit load of charcoals every week for grilling so it will save even more money.That's the two reasons I started to grow them too :D but it has much more uses from good quality pollen for honeys to making furniture.Sorry for my bad English and long comment.I just love these kind of stuff
