    Don’t get rid of the train table. It can be a play table for other play like cars, figures, animals, Lego, etc.

      Oh yes not getting rid of it, I meant just moving it somewhere else so we would have more room to move in the loft. But definitely keeping it!!

    My 21 month old was suddenly so fussy and I could not get anything done because she would crawl all over me and whine. Once I finally got into her toy room and organized it and made things more accessible for her, she has been in such a better mood. I went Montessori style. I got rid of / stored 70% of the toys and thoughtfully picked toys that I thought she would truly enjoy playing with. I also bought a few more things to supplement. I hope to do a rotation in 2 months or so. She will now happily go play in her toy room for hours and I can be in the next room doing laundry or cooking dinner or working etc without having a grumpy child literally climbing up me like I am a tree. She was just bored and while she has always had a play room with countless toys (mostly hand me downs and gifts), it was not organized in a way she could navigate well and probably overwhelming for her.

      I love hearing stories like this! So often simplifying things can make our life so much easier, and it works the same for our children! I’m so glad you a solution that worked for your little one!

    Thanks for posting this video! Your playrooms look great and I LOVE your idea of using netting on your railings to keep balls, etc. from falling downstairs! Where did you find/buy the netting? My 2-year-old loves throwing things down our stairs and the cardboard boxes that I put up on one side of our railings are always falling down. I would love to copy your idea!

    Where is your playroom located in your house? I'm new to Montessori, I'm trying to set up a play room, however, I only have space in a spare room or in my basement. I have a 20 month old. He doesn't really play if I leave the room.

    • @TaraWilloughby
      @TaraWilloughby  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our playroom is on our first floor, but it isn’t connected to our living room/kitchen. It is technically the “office”. My boys don’t play in there without me either. They mostly follow me around all day and I try to include them in the things I’m doing (to their ability). Our playroom has days were it is totally neglected and we do more outside play or other things. Now that my oldest is 3 he will play alone in there for a little while, but my 15 month old is always right by my side. Hope that helps! I would put their playroom wherever you think it’s best for your home! There really isn’t a right or wrong place, whatever works best for your family, but totally normal for them not to play without you in there at 20 months. I also set up small activities in the kitchen if I need to get things done, that way they are near me, but still playing somewhat independently.
