You're right, it is vastly oversimplified! I'll expand it in a long-form video but here's the generic approach (hopefully it will give you an idea for what to do): 1. Find what do you anticipate often during your days - things like notifications, emails, games (mobile games abuse this way too much), gambling, shows, anime, and so on. 2. Exclude those from your "diet" for at least a week. 3. Start reintroducing them one by one every week. The order is up to you; start with what you want the most, it should be fine. 4. Track your motivation, happiness, and energy every single day. Just rate all of those from 1 to 5 and write that in a notebook or Notion. 5. Check if the week off helped (based on your data). Check if reintroducing something had a negative effect. Depending on your physiology, you might want to do that reintroduction slower (e.g. if nothing ever happens, try excluding everything for a week and then reintroducing it every month). 6. Check your baseline habits - the boring stuff like sleep, stress, food, going outside (the sun is shockingly useful for this), and social interactions. Those can dysregulate dopamine sensitivity too. 7. Create something. Simple but effective and I like having at least one of those hanging around xD Hopefully that helps. Feel free to ping me in the Discord and I'll join you in figuring this out and help!

Thank you for your video. I'm going to try same thing new. Starting tomorrow in the morning, I'm going to delete my TH-cam, Facebook and Tik-tok for a week and see what happens. Those are my only social media I use. Please pray for me 🙏
It is for most people. I'd start with getting rid of notifications. Maybe even put the thing in grayscale mode from accessibility settings. Makes it far less interesting without actually limiting what you can do.
I've had good results just cutting off all tech and anything fun for a weekend. Even a week. Helps reset the bar. If that's not possible - doing extremely hard/unpleasant things has the same effect. Lifting heavy weights, cold showers, and doing challenging and kind of unpleasant things.
When I used FB until 2016 I'd never felt good doing it, the opposite of getting dopamine, maybe. But I don't have much motivation to do anything. I had chronic pain from colitis and other issues and cured it with the ketogenic diet, but still lacks motivation.
I'd look at other areas in life or other apps/networks that constantly trigger your dopamine secretion. Keep in mind your motivation is on kind of like a scale with pain. So if you do hard stuff that sucks, you get more of it. Think challenging tasks or workouts.
Not....everyone gets it in truly satisfying amounts though. I mean, so many disorders and illnesses are due to imbalances with dopamine. I don't usually get dopamine dumps from eating- its often a pain to get up off my but in the mornings to get dressed. I kinda looked this up for ways to stay motivated, buy just wanted to clarify: No. People's dopamine levels aren't always satisfying. Just because I do something I know I should, doesn't mean the reward feels worth it. Especially if i do things often and it goes completely unnoticed or gets messed up minutes later anyways. That just makes me feel distressed, honestly. :/
Lots of people have a dopamine dysregulation of some sort. This is the result of companies monetizing our attention. You have 2 ways to stimulate your dopamine production: A/ Mindfulness - this can include any form, but it needs to feel boring (at least at first). I prefer meditation. B/ Pain - Pleasure and Pain are on the same scale. The more pleasure in your life, the higher your threshold for big dopamine spike. The higher the pain in your life, the lower the threshold. Cold Showers and Exercise can be a good start.
@Jordan D. Parker I've actually got ADHD though so....not so much a monetization thing as much as a diagnosed lack of Dopamine in the prefrontal cortex but...yeah. Pain sounds like something I haven't heard before- im willing to give cold showers and excercise a try 🤔 thank you for the reply and help!

If it makes you feel better - most people's dopamine system is broken (or "dysregulated"). Mine is too. While your upper limit might be different than others, I believe you can do a lot to do better. (Unless you're live like a monk and use your phone once a year to comment on one of my videos xD)
A detox? In the perfect world, 1 or even 2 weeks. But that's not practical or even possible for most people. So, start with 1-2 days. Combine it with reduced overall daily usage and you will be way on your way.
Lack of human contact and the strict organization that going to work gives you can do that. Messes up with your habits and head :/ I'm around to help; feel free to ping me here or in Discord!

Keep in mind your motivation is on kind of like a scale with pain. So if you do hard stuff that sucks, you get more of it. Think challenging tasks or workouts.
thanks Jordan!@@heyJordanParker
okay yeah, but then what?
Im being serious, i know thats bad but ive been trying. I run out of things to do, or i feel bored doing them. I need help 😩
I don't have any motivation to do anything...so I'll try this..
Imma try
Him: And im so glad everyone has it!
My addicted ass: 🤨
I've felt this way way before having a smart phone tho
Needed this
Good advice
Do character, figure, locomotive/robots share something incomon with human beings
Yes. Carbon.
Not....everyone gets it in truly satisfying amounts though. I mean, so many disorders and illnesses are due to imbalances with dopamine.
I don't usually get dopamine dumps from eating- its often a pain to get up off my but in the mornings to get dressed.
I kinda looked this up for ways to stay motivated, buy just wanted to clarify:
No.
You have 2 ways to stimulate your dopamine production:
A/ Mindfulness - this can include any form, but it needs to feel boring (at least at first).
Only thingi have motivation for is when i finish one beer and then i see i have few more to go 🤣
Kinda already doing that so good to gear
Mum's right... It is the damn phone😂
Isn't it crazy how we all found the motivation to watch this video and how you found the motivation to read this comment and how Ted-ed foind the motivation to Post this video all while unmotivated
I fucked up my mind and I don't blame youtube for it. It's just painlessly painful.
I knew it was my phone. Well atleast 50%. I'm saving this vid to show the kids. Might even try with them for a day. Hehehe.
It’s so nice to hear that Carl!
It’s what’s missing from our education system, unfortunately 🫤
Awesome job & feel free to ping me if you need any help!
Me with adhd and my dopamine sender is broken: 👁️👄👁️
If it makes you feel better - most people's dopamine system is broken (or "dysregulated"). Mine is too.
While your upper limit might be different than others, I believe you can do a lot to do better. (Unless you're live like a monk and use your phone once a year to comment on one of my videos xD)
As this is posted to social media. Lol
How long does it usually take?
A detox?
In the perfect world, 1 or even 2 weeks.
But that's not practical or even possible for most people.
So, start with 1-2 days. Combine it with reduced overall daily usage and you will be way on your way.
@@heyJordanParker yes sir, thank you!
Ill try for a week
Start 11/1/24
End 17/1/24
Day 1 -(11/1/24) (Loading..)
be being an youtuber working on stuff half of the day *
so i cant skip social media
I’ve been doing it quite successfully.
Leaving my posting to the afternoon (and scheduling posts to go out whenever I need them to) helps a ton.
@@heyJordanParker thanks
As a student, i have nothing to do besides studying and playing on my phone or pc. My life is useless.
Build a business.
PS: You have nothing to do but also nothing to stop you from doing whatever you want.
Okay
Just scroll for 10-15 mins a day before bed -> 😴💤😴
It works for me at least 😆
Works, as long as you can keep it for 10-15 mins. I tried it before and always ended up scrolling for 2 hours xD
He-he xD
I got 000000000000000.1% motivation ever since the pandemic started
Lack of human contact and the strict organization that going to work gives you can do that. Messes up with your habits and head :/
I'm around to help; feel free to ping me here or in Discord!

Where is your motivation

I disagree with what you're saying. I say it's the environment that affects My dopamine levels etc
Alright I will try it , I will be back , respond 1 week after this comment , thank you
Thanks, Bye
This is me !!!!
I just delete my socials, no joke
My life just sucks.
If you have access to the Internet… it's not that bad.
Other things you might have, that aren't as common as people think:
• bed
• food
• home
Stop blaming life & start taking responsibility. No one is saving you.
