  • In the video "Creating a Big Turbo Audi TT Monster... PT2," DJ tackles the complex restoration of a neglected Audi TT Mk1 that was destined for the scrapyard. He starts by replacing the badly worn brake pads and addressing a seized caliper that was causing binding issues. As he digs deeper into the repairs, DJ discovers severely corroded brake lines that need to be completely replaced, resulting in multiple frustrating setbacks. Despite the challenges, DJ successfully replaces the brake components, builds proper brake pressure, and tests the brakes on rough terrain to ensure they are functioning correctly. To finish up, he restores the headlights to remove yellowing, making sure the car meets MOT standards. The video showcases DJ’s determination and skill as he works tirelessly to bring the Audi TT back to life.
(00:04 - 01:45): The creator rescues a dilapidated Audi TT destined for the scrapyard. He begins by replacing severely worn brake pads and checking the condition of the discs, hoping to avoid warping issues.
(04:10 - 07:39): After discovering the caliper is seized and causing binding, he replaces it along with brake lines, only to encounter another problem with corroded brake lines that need to be replaced entirely.
(08:23 - 11:10): Replaces incorrect calipers and brake lines, dealing with leaks and fitting new components correctly to ensure no further fluid loss or brake failure.
(16:13 - 20:21): Troubleshoots persistent brake bleeding issues, replacing corroded brake lines with new ones. Finally manages to build brake pressure and confirms no leaks, ensuring a firm brake pedal.
(22:02 - 26:55): Tests the brakes on grass to engage the ABS and remove air, then refinishes the headlights to pass MOT requirements, addressing all listed failures in preparation for inspection.

I bought a MK2 a few months ago and I’m catching up on some of the standard annoying things to fix. I’m really keen on the idea of getting a MK1 now to fix up.

The rear piston winds back in. It looked pretty dead though. We got a cheap fail back on the road. Good luck mate.

Nice vid documenting the problems that always seem to snowball when working on these mk1s!
A quick question on the master cylinder bleeding, did you also attach the bleeding pipe kit to each one?

Hi I couldn’t get a spanner into the bleed nipples as there is no room so had to use a socket and extension and just let it bleed out and wash it down after. Thanks for following 👍
