    I ran into McDavid at a club in Vegas this year a couple nights before the All-Star game, recognized him and started a "Holy shit you're Connor McDavid", he gave me a fist bump- and I promptly effed off with my now magical left hand

      It’s quite crazy to me thinking back on it 20 years later. When I was out there it’s almost like I instinctively knew where every player was on the playing area. My decision making was quick and fluent. Unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Some people in life find that hidden passion/talent and ride it out. As u see in pro sports and high level people

      Bwekfust how did this comment get a lot of likes

    • @surlycrosscheck1
      @surlycrosscheck1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In the past, bicycles were a HUGE part of the (maybe even main) way to train for hockey. It was based mainly on strength as the game was different back in the day - far more physical play as well so weights were a huge part of it as well (far more than today).
      Now it's more about speed (both in feet and hands) so training has evolved and bruit strength isn't so much a factor. Jagr did a pretty cool interview on how training has evolved over the years and how he was forced to change his ways to be able to keep up. Even skating techniques have evolved from when he was young. He noted as well how he missed the old days of bikes but if he still wanted to compete, he had to evolve with the game/training.
      People always get defensive when comparisons of then and now are typed up. Please don't. I'm not saying any one style is better than the other. That's for another debate. All I'm saying is that the game has changed (far more speed less physical) than the game years ago (slower but hugely physical) therefore training/science behind it has evolved as well. Nothing wrong with it.
      Look at it this way. If you plopped old school guys into todays game with todays rules, they could not compete. For one, they couldn't keep up to the speed and second they'd be in the box constantly or ejected.
      If you plopped todays players into the days of old with old time rules they would not last a game as they'd be injured in short order even with what was considered a "clean" hit in those days let alone the targeting that used to go on. It's just a different game but it's still good. In many ways, personally, I feel it's better. In saying that, there are some aspects of the game that I miss.
      Bikes were a huge parts of training in the old days (still used but not as extensively). I'll assume that is what Bwekfust was referring to.

      Dean Bryant Let's see not even judging based on skill because anybody with a brain that watches hockey knows Crosby is light years better than Towes. But Crosby's 2 Olympic gold medals, 3 Stanley cups, almost ever award a forward can get in the sport 405 goals 711 assists 1116 points. That beats Towes 292 goals 382 assists 674 points 3 cups and a pretty impressive plethora of awards himself. Sorry Crosby is way better if you're trying to imply Towes is somehow on his level. I forgot they were on team Canada together for the two golds.

    I was a little suspicious when I saw the Connor McDavid Story is only 2 minutes 44 seconds long. Then I watched it and my suspicions were confirmed. It's advertising for Edge Pro. Lame. Thumbs down.

    I must say that for the first time in Mcdavids career, I’m starting to see a small kink in his armor for being the best in the league. Don’t get me wrong, he IS still one of the best, however, there are small questions starting to appear and quietly challenge his stature of being the absolute best player in the league. First, you cannot get injured often. One of the single most legacy killers for a player is injuries and that curse cost Lemieux’s dominance against Gretzky and it cost Gretzky a couple scoring titles himself including in 1988. Players need to dodge injuries to stay on top which is another reason why Ovechkin’s status is held in such a high regard by maintaining his near 50 goals per season average after 15 seasons. Also, Mcdavid has not won a scoring title now in 2 years so whatever the reason, whether it was a fluke supremacy of Kucherov or Draisaityl pulling ahead to win it seems there’s always one person lately who came through just a few points ahead of Mcdavid to win the title so in this case it is not always good being number 2 when your considered number 1. Even small things like losing out to the all-star speed competition for the first time all contributes to his personal status. The most impressive feat I think Mcdavid has ever achieved in the NHL to prove his prestige in my opinion was in 2017-2018 when in the first half of the season he was very far behind in the scoring lead due to illness and I thought for sure he was going to lose the title, but had a complete dominance of PPG in the second half to catch up and blow past everyone to win another scoring title. If Mcdavid is to continue to be considered THE BEST and not just one of the best in my opinion as a forward he needs to stay healthy and statistically show it no matter what. Period. Your personal achievements and team wins dictate your legacy in the league, so a few more scoring titles and a Stanley cup will solidify his greatness for sure but the time is now to continue to tighten that armor.

      How's your opinion on his performance now after scoring over 100 pts in under 56 games? Good players influence the play of teammates Great players lift the play of teammates. For me his playoff performance is something that he has yet to prove. I am looking forward to seeing him earn that but until he does he won't get that recognition. He is by far my favorite skater to watch. There is nobody in the league who has body shift control like he does at the speed he does it at. The only other player that I have seen bring that mind-blowing next level skating into the league was Pavel Bure. I trust his emotional control and that's a huge plus in building his talents to Stanley Cup level leadership that it takes getting there. It's a team game and guys like him and Crosby becoming a captain at 19, 20 years old is quite the investment for an organization. Hopefully he can achieve what Crosby and Ovi has done.

      @@jjk028 I’m very happy about his performance now and proud of him. At the time I wrote the comment, he was struggling with injuries and not dominating as much as he should have been and at THAT point in time he wasn’t and if you read the end of my comment I clearly state that if Mcdavid continues to be considered the best he must stay healthy and dominate statistically which he has clearly done. Let’s hope it continues. 🙏👍

    • @jjk028

      @@darrenforseille641 No need argue that. I completely understood when you posted it and took it as perspective from then. I was simply adding to your comment like "hey since we last talked look what happened". I enjoy talking hockey with those that do also. He is the hottest player hockey has seen in years. Another one I'm curious about is Cole Caulfield and how that group of young talent grows in such a stubborn organization tradition. I am impressed with how he has handled himself from finishing up his studies last month and shifting into his role now. He really sees the ice well and is a natural scorer. My concern is management stepping in the way of the young talent growing together. It's different in Edmonton. They have a tradition that allows the teams to flourish naturally which is why Gretzky loved it there. I am a old school french Canadian blood. But after Roy left and that 93 cup I just can't get behind them. Too much ego to let true leadership come from the players.
