Water melons are not widely grown only in the northern part of Nigeria, but this farmer is trying out this enterprise organically and is making so much progress.

While preparing your land, ensure that every hole in the field is investigated, emptied and filled. When they don't have a home in your field, you've solved the problem 50%

We are usually fast to begin to think about agrochemicals when relating to the issue of pests and diseases.
If you ensure that your land is rodent free at the time of land development and that the bushes around your farm are slashed, you would have reduced the amount to be spent on chemicals by more than half. Digging trenches around the perimeter of the farm and applying spent engine oil is another way to take care of rodents and other pests. Finally neem oil and other organic products are very good in controlling pests.
The best approach towards pests and diseases is Integrated Pest Management...it is not a one-size-fits-all
