Please come back! We all miss your content! Plus there is so much theatre content which I know your’ll be amazing at making. Please please please 🙏 come back
My school is currently doing "It's a Wonderful Life: Radio Play" and boy... is it hectic. We are supposed to be doing the final recording in about a week.
If you ever need a visual example of latency in action, Desert Bus For Hope just wrapped and their annual tradition of singing "the final countdown" was a complete trainwreck (said affectionately and this is 100% not a slam they are a comedy troupe, trainwrecks are a feature not a bug) because of everyone's compounding lag over zoom.
This is so specific. But so helpful! As an actor/streamer/QLAB programmer/Projection designer/ Theatre educator... I had no Idea where to begin doing Digital performance. Thank you for sharing your experiences!
I love hearing what other people are doing to make theatre happen in this wack time. One of my high school theatre teacher friends (of which I have a handful) had a unique solution: commissioning me to write a comedic radio play! That was a lot of fun. We arrived to the same conclusion about latency and ended up streaming a pre-recorded version. I also saw a production of Clue in which the actors stood on colorful platforms 6ft apart; it kinda looked like the board game! This will be a very interesting moment in theatrical history for sure.
This is so incredibly fascinating. I just finished up a virtual radio play at my university, and some of the tips you have would have made our production run much more smoothly. I'll have to show this video to my director for next semester.
i'm so glad teachers like you exist. ;u;. i'm a preschool teacher, and watchin you explain how much work you put into making sure your students had a good production this semester was like eating a warm bowl of soup. it's so clear how much you care about them.
I am so glad that you're still making videos. I kinda fell out of my love for musicals (switched from a theatre to an english major lmao) but you were the first person I watched that made really great video essays analyzing musical theatre. I just wanna say that you were part of the reason why I loved musical theatre so much. Your videos and appreciation for the art form really set off fires in my then teenage brain, stoking my flame that is my love and appreciation for live performance. Now at the ripe old age of 21, I still love that analytical look at musical theatre and all the cast recordings that you reviewed. So, thanks for that. I picked up improv in college and haven't done it in person in over a year. Zoom improv doesn't hit the same and I can't wait until I can get vaccinated and do it safely in person again. Keep on being awesome and amazing. Sincerely, Maviene.
I recently assistant directed on this one play at my university and we eventually used OBS ninja. A lot of issues of what you said we came across on and a lot of the times sometimes are just inevitable, but in the end we all had a great time.
I’m ACTUALLY doing not too bad - missing the experience of life theatre, of course, but living my introverted life and getting things done at home. And of course, eagerly awaiting the next podcast from you and Jimi.
Thank you for this video. As a fellow Theatre Educator, I completely agree! Educational Theatre has always and must need to be about the “process” and not the “product.” Hope you are well. Let’s keep Theatre Alive. I also have a lot of Technical Theatre Lessons that can be cater to Synchronous learning.
Super interesting and helpful video. I'm currently directing a student ran zoom show. (Our high school dropped the ball on keeping our theatre program together). We are doing it live via zoom and obs next week. Our fingers are crossed that we don't have tech difficulties but we have backups and plans in the event of chaos. But super interesting video that gave me a few good ideas as we continue.
I am so so so thankful that Australia is doing good and we are able to start doing live performance now. I am planning for a musical theatre club for all my kids 😊
I'm thankful for getting a new Musical Theater Mash video!! Love this discussion! Digital theater is weird but can be so so rewarding depending on the preparation and show. I just closed a zoom Laramie Project and it was one of the best productions I've been involved in.
Please do your suggested video when you get round to doing your school's musical (if you have the time of course)! I'm currently studying to be a music teacher, which I know is not exactly the same, but I feel like there would definitely be crossover in terms of tackling syncing, sound bleed, etc. Also, if you have any neurodivergent students or students with SLDs in your class/production, did you find they struggled with the online format (e.g. processing issues, attention issues, etc.), and if so, did you find any ways to make it easier for them? Also, also, welcome back!
I'm currently living this, final year BA degree 😅😭, it's exciting to have this challenge but goodness I really miss the stage 😢 please let us know about the musical 🥰
Hi, i just a want to check on you since its beena while(yeah i didnt realize either that 2years already passed) I hope everything is going well. Wish you the best.
ive been noticing that too. Seems he has made only one video two years ago and nothing afterwards. His FB is inactive in that same time period as well. He's posting on Twitter so at least I know he's okay on that social media. :)
He's back ladies and gentlemen
If you miss his content (I do) you should listen to his podcast Jim and Tomics Musical Theatre Happy Hour
Except they still haven't done their 90th episode yet. Bedknobs and Broomsticks is still listed as the "newest" episode for about a month now.
@@cannibalisticrequiem when it doubt, listen to their 2 part Christmas special from 2016 over and over
I’ve been saving their Christmas episodes, but I think it may be that time of year again!
I wish some of my high school theatre teachers had your perspective on the “performance” vs. the “process.”
We’ve really missed you Tommy!
Please come back! We all miss your content! Plus there is so much theatre content which I know your’ll be amazing at making. Please please please 🙏 come back

1) I missed your videos very much 2) I’m currently trying to figure out how to do a show at my school so thank you for this!!
I’m not an educator or a theater student, but I am super excited to see this anyway ;D

Wow, So great to have an actual regular ( as much as anything can be right now) post!!🙌💥💖😍
Hi Tommy. I'm happy to see you. Back on TH-cam.
*nods* Okay Tommy. 😂 (Nah but fr, I understood what you were talking about.)
Every time MTM reminds us he isn't dead and uploads a video, it's just fantastic. I'm glad you and the students are doing well, Tommy! Great video!
HE IS BACK!!!!
Hey Mr. Mash, we love you, hope you can make more videos soon
I'm thankful for getting a new Musical Theater Mash video!! Love this discussion! Digital theater is weird but can be so so rewarding depending on the preparation and show. I just closed a zoom Laramie Project and it was one of the best productions I've been involved in.
So, today I'm thankful for a new video ✨... Also, would like to see a snippet of the final production
Totally forgot this channel existed.

Are you going to release the supercut of outtakes? I think we'd all love to see it.
HES BACK
He has returned!
For my college musical we used Jamkazam to rehearse and record music... it was the most frustrating experience of my life
WE MISSED YOU
Yay he's back!
First 10 seconds and you walked into a rake.
MISSED U HOMIE
Good luck with the musical, if I've learned anything about videocalls it's that you CANNOT sing together with someone on the other side :P
We have just been locked down again in my area, so it would be a one woman digital theatre show...
I'm currently living this, final year BA degree 😅😭, it's exciting to have this challenge but goodness I really miss the stage 😢 please let us know about the musical 🥰
Where is bro at?
What musical are you doing?
You should do a review on Guys And Dolls
Hi, i just a want to check on you since its beena while(yeah i didnt realize either that 2years already passed) I hope everything is going well. Wish you the best.
As a high school theatre teacher, how has your high school’s program changed post COVID??
Watched a college produced musical where they lip synced and it looked terribly inauthentic and really took me out of it. Wouldn't recommend.
You're bi-techual. You're a computer tech nerd and a theater tech nerd.
Idk u had curly hair!😍
YOOOOOOO
Are you still making content?
