(Keith White) Patient reports chilling abusive conditions by doctors & staff at State Hospital

DSH-Atascadero: 030920 Keith White was sent to the Department of State Hospitals to receive treatment pursuant to PENAL CODE SECTION 2684, and details a number of abusive conditions in this chilling interview. First, he describes how Treatment Team, gave him no feedback on his progress, or how close he might be in terms of completing his treatment and being sent back to prison. Keith expressed that this caused him and his peers extreme daily stress and anxiety. He described a situation with his psychiatrist, who laughed at him during a meeting and made sarcastic comments about the suicide of a friend. He went on to give credible details that his psychologist, and other unit staff, were aware of his psychiatrist's behavior, and told him to only speak to his psychiatrist in the future about his medication issues. In addition, he states that the staff told him they had multiple complaints from other patients regarding the conduct of this psychiatrist. Keith describes another situation where the social worker was supposed to call his uncle and notify him that Keith was at Atascadero, however, there was a breakdown in communication and Keith had to have another patient's family make the notification. When Keith began to complain to a social worker he identified as '' Michelle '', He states that she told him "If you don't like what they are doing we can send you back to prison." Keith reports that several showers on his unit (34), which houses approximately 50 patients, were flooding up to their ankles for over 6 months, and were ice cold for at least 4 months, which staff observed and supervised. He stated that at weekly community meetings patients complained about these conditions and nothing was done. Keith also stated that he observes low-functioning patients sleep abandon in there beds and ignored by staff, sleeping all day, and not attending treatment groups. He also describes an incident of cleaning up another patient's feces which was encouraged or observed, by 2 staff members he identified as "Dennis"&"Marlene".
Keith corroborates the findings of dshabuse.org that there is a pervasive theme among the PC2684 population that if you file a patient's rights complaint, you are likely to have your treatment, terminated, and be sent back to prison. Keith reports sending a letter to the attorneys who represent PENAL CODE SECTION 2684 patients (ROSEN DIEN GALVAN & GRUNFELD LLP), asking for help. he states that he received a letter back from this law firm informing him that they could not help and that he should contact his Treatment Team.
(Update July 9,2020: This file can now be released as Keith White has been sent back to prison. There are grave systemic and operational deficiencies which have been under investigation by dshabuse.org for several months. I have a bother there now n has done the same .hes bin in for 30 yrs all alone.... no family. No letters.no calls. No visits .no money. No nothing just him .I haveint talked to him in 24yrs tell he got to this place ..thy have threatened to send my bro back too . Thy didint even tell me where thy moved him I had to call all 35 units to find him ..thy also refused him clean clothes cause he was new n didint no how the get down was he learned tho ..by him being there this is the most he has ever to family since being there
