Great tips on getting a bunch of crawlers! I do something similar, but I don't have that many crawlers to get. But what I do is I take some grass and an ice cream bucket and place them in there. A day or two later I have the worm bedding made and ready to go, and I sift through the worms, tossing any that didn't make it. Usually 90-95 percent of them make it just fine. If they're kept cold they squirm around a lot in your hand when you grab them, that's how I can tell the healthy ones from the not-so healthy ones. I don't necessarily throw away the not so good looking ones yet though, I'll just use those first when I'm fishing. They'll catch panfish and even bass still. Walleye are a little pickier though, I save the best crawlers for the walleyes.
great idea larry! when we were kids wed shine fliashlights for crawlers . great fun to try to catch em. theres also a way to crank an old telephone and rod in the ground to make them come to the surface. also, congrats on getting the first video ive ever seen with 0 thumbs down. send this man a plaque!
I stopped using the food years ago because of mold. Buss bedding on the bottom and last year's Silver Maple leaves on top is the best combo. They plump up like crazy.
So much Great Information sir, Just a suggestion for all of the city folk who aren't on "well water" you don't want to use chlorinated water...It will kill them.
Thanks! That's VERY IMPORTANT! My city friends never had many crawlers when they had the lawn sprinklers out, but we sure did on our farm! I figured that out about the Frickin Flouride especially and chlorine back in the 70's but nobody wanted to believe this kid, who became a Biology major in college!😂
Thank you for giving me great ideas to raise Canadian Nightcrawlers. I’ve always kept them in my fridge for months but with your video, it gave me an idea of how to raise them. If it works I’ll let you know.
Great but how do you store them? I mean keep them for up to 2 months? We don't see crawlers out after April and have to load up early. I find about a month is all they last and then there is a large die off
I usually store them in a 5 gallon kitty litter bucket that's been cleaned with some mulch and coffee grounds that's been used. I keep them inside the basement and it stays cool down there. They'll keep for along time. I've kept some that I caught in April, all the way up into the winter months. Easy peezy
I just made a video of what you just did a week ago we just use the BUSS Bedding we found out that the night crawlers die fast with the other stuff his best night he picked 58 dozen i got him into selling them last year and now hes hooked
The bait shops hate this one... Use electricity ⚡️make your own "worm shocker". There's videos here on TH-cam on how to make them. Then you can worm hunt at your leisure...

We used to go to golf coursed during a rain or when the sprinklers were going off to collect night crawlers.
Another great video and tip. Do you know how to keep leeches alive and happy? What to feed?
Not that I know of

You're welcome!
Good video, especially great way for kids that are starting out to get them involved. 👍🏻
You bet Ed, it's always a good time!

It's alot of trial and error to be honest.

What is kind of night crawlers is that
The bait shops hate this one...
Use electricity ⚡️make your own "worm shocker". There's videos here on TH-cam on how to make them. Then you can worm hunt at your leisure...
Noted
Would you buy the bedding from for the worms
Magic products!
How much do you save getting your night crawlers free but buying all that bedding and food?
Not FREE if you’re buying the bedding.
