Sitting here watching this as my worm crawls across my couch... I went outside, found him and took him inside and he will now be MY PET! I have a nice lil habitat for him and I make sure he is always most and has enough water and food :>
I save raw vegetable scraps, egg shells, fruit peels etc and when I have enough to run through the blender I add some water to the mix and blend it into a thick soup texture and pour it in the worm bed. My worms love it. The worm castings go in the garden. I also hunt worms in my backyard and add them to my raised bed gardens to help enrich the soil.
Hi. I want to raise worms for my garden and for composting a little. Did you ever make that video on changing the bedding for your worms? If not, can you give me the basic instructions--just kind of a 10 Commandments version of changing out the dirt? Thanks! Also, is there a certain temperature they need maintained? Obviously, a lot of worms are going outside in my garden, but the ones I am trying to raise and breed will either be inside or outside depending on what temperature they need. We live in Texas, so summers are hot and winters get down to about 30 degrees on the coldest days. Thanks!
I have been catching and saving nightcrawlers. As always TH-cam this has been interesting., ALL the various methods, the different ways to Harvest , most importantly, how to keep them alive.( I )want to sell them because there is no area down here that sells worms other than red wigglers or Canadian (not common to the water) I would appreciate it if someone would show me how to box them keeping them cool and lively. Finally, What's the best food for them while they're on the shelf? Thank you for your time! GARY BOUNDS!
hi Matthew, Nice video..Any reason why you want to feed very little for the first few weeks ? In a new bedding do they normally stay at the bottom ? Thanks
Nice video Matthew, I was wondering if after a few day of keeping the light on if the worms stay in without keeping the light on once they are accustomed to the tub and the bedding?
Thanks. Usually the light isn't necessary at all, however I recommend it for at least a couple days. Like you suggested, after the worms get settled in the light isn't required.
You should feed your worms when as ll the food is gone . Do not give your worms whole food . Put your scrap in a food processor or blender, to make a slurry .
Chicken mash. Local feed stores stock it. Since I raise chickens I "borrow" some of their pellets, crush them as close as I can to a powder form, then sprinkle on the surface of worm bin.
I have pet worms and they keep dieing and I was wondering that if they need to be watered or not because if i don't figure out my worm problem ill have to release them into the wild. :(

Go online and search mite images and see if it is mites. If it is then get ur worms out immediately but don't wash them, then get rid of the mites and ask worm experts what to do and meanwhile keep the worms somewhere safe with soil and food.U can also research online if u don't know any worm experts
VN Dustoff Most people that grow worms will tell you that worm farms have mites. It is part of the process. If you feed your worms a lot of fruit (esp melons, watermelons, cucumbers) the mite population will increase. You can treat your bin with diatomaceous earth (I've had 'food grade' recommended to me) or you can drop in a melon rind, let it sit a day or two then pull it out. The mites will be drawn to it and you will knock the population down. Aside from being "yucky", the mites usually aren't a big problem.
Yes , but put everything through a food processor or blender to make a slurry. The worms will eat the slurry faster . Whole pieces will take months for the worms to eat . The worms will eat the slurry in two weeks . Worms have TINY mouths.
oh, ok. It will somewhat, but they are difficult to keep alive and will not likely reproduce. Be sure not to over feed them and add some extra newspaper.
Rico Suave It's to prevent other animals and insects going inside to eat the worms, take their food, lay eggs, or anything that will ruin your worm habitat/farm
This is true, Trevor. However, certain "worm chows" are formulated so the worms will grow larger and be more active. Not to mention, the chows are fine and grainy. With that said if you decide to go with kitchen scraps its best that you make them as small as possible....creating MUCH surface area for microbes to assist with the decomposition process.

hi Matthew, Nice video..Any reason why you want to feed very little for the first few weeks ? In a new bedding do they normally stay at the bottom ? Thanks
Red wigglers are top feeds . They like being at the top few inches of your bin .
Funny how people come here to learn about worms and then pretend to be experts in the comments section.

Is that the 10 gallon concrete mixing tub?
It's a 7 dollar mortar mixing tub found at the hardware store.
What kind of water do you use to wet worm bedding? Do you use tap water? Should I be concerned about chlorine and chloramine?
Don't use tap water ! The floride and chlorine will kill the eggs . Always use rain water or well water .
wet water
hey how long can a group of couple hundred last in this setup before having to be fed or any kind of maintenance?
Rico Suave should feed atleast everywhere day with food scraps
You should feed your worms when as ll the food is gone . Do not give your worms whole food . Put your scrap in a food processor or blender, to make a slurry .
No drainage?🤔🤔
Can you just give the worms fruits and vegetables ?
what is the powder you spread at last.?
Chicken mash. Local feed stores stock it. Since I raise chickens I "borrow" some of their pellets, crush them as close as I can to a powder form, then sprinkle on the surface of worm bin.

I live in Phoenix and keep my house at 80 degrees. Is this too warm for them?
Thats not too warm for worms. But is too warm for for humans.
Bro wtf how do u survive in your house
Just went on your website and everything is out of stock!!
I looked up the purina worm chow and that stuff is way too expensive for worm food. What is a good blend of what I can make?
1 part corn meal & 1 part oatmeal ground up with some ground up egg shells.
Oyster shells are good too.

Small earth worms? Just like worms you find in the back yard?

How many worms in a pound
Wade Barnes a worm is about 1 gram depending on size. Not sure how many grams in a pound so just check on Google.
200 worms in a pound . Ask if the worms are bedrun . Bedrun means your order comes with worms and eggs .
can the worms not crawl out
I don't think they want to leave the comfort of the soil, food/protection etc.
does this work for blood worms ?
catlover09 no
cricket food.
Let me get this correct, this is a soul worm, the same worm that people are now eating also. This is not a composting worm.
cbzombiequeen58 no it’s a European night crawler
How do the worms survive in the box on the way to a customer?
Hello
wtf this was simple....why dont you need a lid? wouldnt they jump out at night or somethign especially if you have them inside?
Worms don't jump and if you put a lid on oxygen can't go in and the worms will die
Rico Suave It's to prevent other animals and insects going inside to eat the worms, take their food, lay eggs, or anything that will ruin your worm habitat/farm
Kids in Africa could've ate that worm!
lol
Sugulle said I think we will refrain😂
