- Max Tegmark visited Google's Cambridge, MA office to discuss his book, "Our Mathematical Universe: My Quest for the Ultimate Nature of Reality". The book describes his quest to explore the ultimate nature of reality, from the microcosm to our universe and beyond.
Dr. Tegmark is an MIT physics professor who loves thinking about life's big questions. and Mathematics is information.. which happens inside of consciousness.
A couple of things that came to my mind: How can emotions be quantified as mathematical constructions? Tegmark also remarked about the fluffiness of the animal (and some other things) but never said anything how that could be mathematical.
Anyways. I gotta say it's very mysterious how precise the numbers are regarding the various properties/objects etc of the Universe. Why are they what they are? Could there really be a mathematical reasoning behind that? Also: Mathematics hasn't been able to describe the big bang event or the black hole singularities at all. I strongly believe that either there is more to the Universe than pure math or there's something fundamentally wrong with the foundations of our mathematics.
+Keni Angervo It's under the basis that the brain and the animal are matter, which act according to physical laws (albeit, not fully understood laws, but well enough to hinge your bet).
It's not specifically that an mathematical construct describes our subjective experience of emotions, but that they describe the physical object (in this case, the brain) which is made of atoms.
Emotions are thought to be brain activity which we experience and perceive - but strictly speaking, it's matter acting according to physical laws, which in theory is calculable via mathematics - or so that is the thought.
Fluffiness is a term we assign to help us describe certain properties which we perceive, but fundamentally speaking, once again, the animal is a physical being made of matter, which in theory can be described by equations - or so that is the thought.
However, if we look at emotions as chemical reactions, which is based on mathematics, and then factor in the mathematical structure of brain A and take into account the chemical reaction occurring in brain B, we may be able to predict mathematically the chemical reaction of brain A. Also if we really were to deconstruct and walk everything backwards it does always come down to mathematical object such as quarks, so that would give everything a base of mathematics. Figuring out how it came to emotions would just be very difficult mathematics. Also I believe you are very broadly using the term "at all" for the Big Bang and singularities. The theory of relativity whether started as a thought experiment or not is in essence a mathematical theory. Black holes were predicted from the theory of relativities mathematics, so if math predicts black holes and singularities prior to ever observing these black holes and singularities than it definitely is the main reason for their discovery.

If the speed of light is constant for any observer, how can it be that the color / energy is different? (redshift)
The color has to do with the wavelength l of the photon, it's energy with the frequency f. These 2 parameters are connected to the speed of light c by l*f=c. Now c being constant only means that the wavelength has to be indirectly proportional to the frequency l~1/f but in principle can take on any value greater than 0

It's either analogous to the casimir effect or the casimir effect itself, the blinding flash of the big bag caused by a pre existing condition and an energy source which is characterised by the name cosmic inflation. This would mean that the our universe was born in a part of the vacuum where the energy was or is very high, assuming this energy occurs in clumps or pockets in the pre existing vacuum. The interaction of two of these clumps or pockets in the pre existing vacuum at different energy states would indeed cause a reaction where the energies will try to balance causing the big bang and the expansion of the our universe?
Good thing the dude introducing Max wasn't the speaker.

I'm not sure seeing is the most important part of learning. If I were blind I might still consider the expansion of the universe, or the nature of a quark.

People tend to think, "wow, look at this thing we have discovered". But really, we invented the symbols and the forms that mathematics is made of. Every number and equation is a human made form.
However, we only discovered the very functions of those forms, and how mathematics must work. The underlying behavior of the numbers and equations was not made by us. The very logical nature of mathematics is the nature of the universe. We just represent it with numbers and equations.
