    At 6:37 the impala rims are carving the asphalt for extra grip, and I love those killyafast brakes

    I'd drop the 21st century in a heartbeat if I could go back to that era. I'm class of 69.

    The 69 Fairlane Cobra 428 CJ/SCJ is one of my favorite Ford's. Liked the Mercury Cyclone CJ too. Those midsize fastback Ford's were sharp looking cars. I'd definitely take it over a 69 Mach 1 428 CJ/SCJ

      I'm an old car guy. I've owned and driven a lot of the cool muscle cars. I think it's funny how some feel they were the best cars ever. I got my start turning wrenches on those things. They were not better cars than we have now. We live in the best car days ever. Street cars on pump gas run 1975 Pro Stock times.

      @Greg Lyle Agree,but modern cars are ugly as hell, overly complicated and soulless,in comparison. Give me the late 60's early 70's paint schemes and graphics,any day......plus the sounds.

      Believe it or not, but gas prices started rising enough that people ordered 2bbl carbs around 1967 or '68. Well into the 80s, a friend's dad had a '68 Mercury Cougar he bought new. He was an electrical engineer, and his car had a 302, 2 bbl, automatic. We chalked the 'nerd' options up to his being an engineer. One day we asked him why he didn't get a 428 or even the mighty 427, and 4 speed. Or at least 4 bbl and 4 speed on his 302. He said gas prices were rising. Lol

    Poor Bud, headrests were a new pain to driving enthusiasts back then. One accident with a broken neck or severe whiplash & you would probably form a new appreciation for the inevitable standard little "rests" on all cars now.

    Most 2 barrel V8s were like jack rabbits off the line. Ford, Chevy, Dodge. All of them. They just ran out of power after that. But if you were just driving around town they were fun to drive

    i ordered a 1969 ford ranchero with 428 motor 4 speed and posi.i ran this car for one year and won my class every week at our local track.i won stock eliminator twice at our local track.my buddy bob had the same identical car and he also won stock eliminator twice when i loaned him my tires.
    i had to sell the ranchero when i bought a hurst amx and received a sponsorship from amc canada.

    The Mercury really digs in nice in the low end. 0-30 mph in 2.9 seconds. (!!).

    • @scdevon
      @scdevon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickjerzak2685 2 barrel 351 Clevelands were some of the best running 2 barrel V8s ever especially in 1970 when the stock cams and compression ratios were still decent. Good till 3500 rpm or so until you run out of carburetor.

    • @patrickjerzak2685
      @patrickjerzak2685 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Several years ago my buddy had a 1969 Torino with a 351 Windsor 2 bbl, that car was an amazing runner out of the hole also I couldn’t believe how fast it was out of the gate.

    • @scdevon
      @scdevon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@patrickjerzak2685 Nice. 351 Windsors had much better stock exhaust manifolds too. My regular driver used to be a 1965 Olds with the 425 2 barrel Rochester 2G carb. Gobs of low end torque. It would roast the right rear bias ply tire until you let off the accelerator. Love good running 2 barrel engines.

    • @patrickjerzak2685
      @patrickjerzak2685 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      scdevon The 2bbl motors I have had were a 78 f150 with 351M 2bbl that was a great motor it would one wheel peel pretty good for several feet, it would take a pounding and keep going and ran strong not a boat anchor like it’s reputation a tough motor with decent torque. I had a 83 F150 with 302 2bbl not a bad engine either liked to wind up a little better than the 351.

    The South Pasadena Police Dept. had 69 Chevys. The 69 in my opinion is a good looking car. A 2 bbl. on a 396 makes no sense. All it does is drink more gas.

    They must have wanted an Impala SS and were p.o.'d at GM for sending them a base Impala with a 396 2-barrel. They obviously drove it excessively hard to make it look bad. The car would have performed better if they had driven within its limits. The car spinning on the 70 mph braking test was entirely due to a wooden-headed driver.

      Measuring them by today's standards is unfair. If it was 1969 and you were handed the keys to any of these cars, you would have been in hog heaven...2 bbl carbs or not. Believe it or not they all had that fabulous new-car smell and character all their own when new. Nobody knew back then how good cars could handle or brake 50 years in the future so we took what the engineers handed us back then and dealt with it.

    A 396 2 barrel...ugh. Nice car but way underpowered. I wouldve at least opted for the 390 horsepower 427 if not the 425 horse L72 427 in a full size 69 Chevy. I probably wouldve bought a stripper L72-4 speed Biscayne 2 door post car. Such a sleeper. Probably quicker than or just as quick as an L78 Chevelle but also cheaper and had a more roomy interior. I like sleeper cars like the 409 and 396/427 Biscaynes

      I would have thought the 396 2 bbl would have had some more guts maybe the compression was quite a bit lower and or cam, and rearend setup for the highway?
