I love these old films
my favorite year riviera. i owned two 1971 boat tail rivieras back in the day, great riding cars.
All their tests have the same generic fake engine sounds, and definitely not V8 engine sounds.
I remember when the 71 Rivera first came out ,the rear end treatment was so controversial, but the rear.end treatment has really aged well, and in my eyes a great profile, from front to rear.
I had a 71. And I loved it. Except in the snow!! It didn't do well in the snow.
Funny; I had a 1971 Ford Torino 351-2V and it was a runner up to about 65-70 mph. The only mod to the car were dual exhausts.
Sad cougar as far as perfomance.
74 gto was my favorite back then but i got a duster instead.
At least it stayed in its lane while the brakes caused the pig to do a 180!
My dad owned a 67 Impala 327 when i was quite young not sure how quick it was but they sure were roomy and comfortable.
0-60 mph in 13 seconds?! That's a disgrace for any big block motor in a passenger car. The same era 350-4V would massacre ghat excuse of a 396
Look up the current W-43.....and wonder what if?
I had both and hands down go pinto, the Vega was a posest piece of shit. I rebuilt the motor three times(even after sleeping the cylinders) if it overheats even not much the aluminum block worps
You see wmerica , thats how you do it
Station wagon vs coup....???? Station wagon higher and more weight behind plus higher in rear end... Of course handling less...lol. Why not Pinto vs Vega coups for apples to apples test ??? lol still love old videos...
"Graham Bond was a fat guy" Ginger Baker😅
3:37 beautiful
Was it possible to take the smog stuff off and then get all the power back or is the engine tuned for low power also?
I am a GM person, but that Cougar is handsome.
Back when cars had character
Its as if it was Designed not to handle
Did you have a sand storm before this run? The track looks terrible, however, I'm a junkie for these videos!
I had an 80 cutlass 2 door 350 diesel car. It had a factory aluminum hood and roof, and front bumper! FE2 suspension pkg. I put in a 455 olds and 2004r overdrive, it had 2.29 factory gears, it would go about 150 and handled like a vette, it was a bad ass car. Miss it.
Polished the whitewalls on this run.
A 455 with modern engine control technology would be 500hp.
Just about rippled the asphalt during brake testing.
Miss this time of life
They said it was the 1st equal steer car in North America I had a 70 RTSE 440 4spd and I put it to the test. The county prosecutor called me uncatchable in 1980
The music sucks
20 years later, the mustang did these et's with a 302.
0-60 in 5.3 is impressive for the weight and technology.
I love my 72 Cutlass!! It's in my garage. 😊
Those body panels not lining up make me laugh but that's it was back then. I love it.
Two cars where one was damaged bomb (Pinto) and the other will melt your heart away under the hood (Vega)
Love Javelin and camaro 71
@ 4:53 - How in the world did that Polyglas tire stay on that rim?
Who cared about stopping we just wanted to go go go..👍🏼👍🏼
Brings back memories. In the sixties, my dad would buy a new car every 3 years and always a Ford. Being in grade school then and looking back, wish I could go back in time and share the excitement of the new car with my father.
People should get new cars more often we only live once
Did AMC realize that the definition of 'Gremlin' means this? "An imaginary mischievous sprite regarded as responsible for an unexplained problem or fault, especially a mechanical or electronic one?" Guess AMC didn't take the time to look up the word to get the proper meaning.
Buddy Rich!
Leaning like a horse with only two legs. lol..
The music. The slang. Hilarious. 9.2 seconds to 60 was pretty slow even for that heft in that era. And look at that body roll at 3:30. No bracing I assume.
Ford should really bring back the Torino, a midsize performance car with ROOM FOR 4 adults. They would sell 100,000 a year…. A much more useful platform than the mustang.
Looks like a full size Pinto.
I had this exact car in 1979. It was a heavy car which was why it took time to take off once you step on the gas pedal. It's a big heavy car. I was sorry I did not get a '73 cougar, which was smaller and more sleek.
Damn that thing is rolling like a couch through those curves
BG resident here
My friend had a ‘73 Delta 88 with the 455. That beast was FAST but Lord help you if you tried to turn.
0-50 in 7 seconds for a whale like the Cougar really wasn’t so bad TBH
This car's numbers would have been a LOT better with a 3.00, 3.25 or 3.50 gear. I find it kinda hard to believe that it weighed 4300, my 71 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 351W weighed 4040, I think the 429 wouldn't have added 300 pounds. 150 lbs maybe.
