I think it is very rare that someone explains these concepts this way.At first i said to myself ok it is a lesson on intervals, but then gradualy you took us to the link between harmony and melody.I really like your approach and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
If there are any guitarists struggling with this, do yourselves a favor and work really diligently on this for at least a week. Listen to it a few times to really see what Jack is saying. *This is pure gold.* And you'll know this once it's under your fingers. There are no secrets to playing guitar. Hi Jack, this way of building progression using tonic through all 7 notes is amazing , because you end up finding more chords that you never thought of. So If it's possible to do the same thing using third or Fifth , could you please do a lesson as well for us? Thank you so much.
Great video! Very cool exercise, I really resonated with what you said at the end "wish I had learned this stuff when I was starting out". I've been playing guitar for about 15 years and am only recently committing myself to get better acquainted with music theory. You're vids are a great aid thanks!
Beautiful playing . Strongly connected with underlying harmony . I just purchased the triad course and use it for my own students - it's great . I got a little request Jack : could you do a small lesson on your picking ? Are there certain things you worked on ? What's your take on this subject ?
I used to joke and tell people that when we die and we're sitting in the reception waiting to get our passports stamped for paradise, Pat Metheny's music is piped into room. If they've got Jack playing in the background, I'm going to misplace my passport to spend more time in the waiting room! 🙂😇
Hi Jack. Love your content, but please change your camera lens or adjust the iris. Your depth of field is very shallow. Your guitar is not in focus from one end to to other. hope this is not taken as a complaint. Cheers
An important lesson for every student ( which you'll remain your whole lifetime). I've made a whole study on chord inversions and connecting them in progressions, maybe a topic to discuss once in your future lessons Jack, just an idea. Your quality lessons are among the best on youtube.

This was great Jack! I'm so glad I stumbled on this, I've been really trying to take a deeper dive into music theory after many years of just hacking around. This is like the right video at the right time in my musical quest. During the segment in the beginning when you were walking up from the perfect 5th I was thinking, "That's Kashmir! That's also Steal Away by Robbie Dupree." A lot to digest here . This is one video lesson I think I'll find myself returning to again and again as I move forward in my development. You just picked up another subscriber and a share.
GREAT lesson! It summarizes years of study in just 22 minutes! This is the foundation to learn how to improvise, reharmonize, arrange, compose and express feelings through music! I'm limiting myself for now to just diatonic triads and seventh chords possibilities. But this lesson is going to be my next step! Thanks!

As happens a lot, this lesson really has me looking forward to practice tonight, and even thinking how I can apply it to a song I'm working on lately in a key I don't usually play in much. Thanks for the inspiration.
I think the hard part is knowing all the chord options and then narrowing it down to one that that sounds good after the previous chord. Is that just hours of experimentation?
A real eye opener for me Jack. I usually take the chords, and create the melody to fit them. Creating chords to fit the melody is fantastic. A lot of work for this old blues player 😂 Thanks
