What's great about this 'fake food' is that when you order the meal, it looks exactly like the display. Not like Mcdonalds burger commercial vs sad reality :/
Tyler Tong Sort of, but a lot of the places send either the item frozen to the artist or detailed pictures, or both. So it often looks like what you ordered
eddie duke not only in Japan.You can find it in any Japanese restaurant all over the world.I was in Singapore and i went to Liang Court,its full of Japanese restaurants,shops,bakeries and a japanese grocery store.We went to a japanese restaurant there and they actually have rows of fake food display.And whatever we ordered and served on the table,its the same like the fake ones. That only works if you went to a restaurants that not only serve authentic japanese food,but all the staffs and cooks actually came from Japan.
As a food photographer, I find this intriguing. It's so much more convenient, and the food doesn't spill, melt or go bad under the harsh studio lights. It would actually be really practical to use them instead of the real deal.

Oh wow! When the guy was handling the fake burger it like brought back a memory from so long ago. I remember being in preschool and playing with plastic food toys! I distinctly remember trying to gather up every single piece one day and there was a lot of missing pieces. I actually started making my own fake food out of clay when I was in 2nd/3rd grade, and to this day I still find enjoyment in making miniature food out of clay. This is so awesome, I wish I could get a job like that here in the US
I think that’s why I love Japanese plastic display foods. It is a specialty craft, but it’s like, the professional version of toy play food from childhood. :D
I feel as though this works very well in japan as well because the food will look like what they are advertising. You couldn't do this in the U.S. because so much food advertising is fake and unrealistic
I always found these fascinating. It's so great that we can learn about it in English via youtube. In all honesty, I think restaurants have moved on to electronic displays. I was at a Kyoto restaurant where everything was ordered by tablet on the table. It's more convenient than having to go outside and point.
i just wanted to say that i watched a 30 minute long episode on just this topic from the japanology channel and im still not quite sure what to do with this information other than weird flexing that i've 25 minutes on all of ya'll

$90,000,000 a year for a business industry. Let's say you have over 200 companies in Japan that do this. That's less than 500,000$ each company takes home each year, not accounting for their expenses this is really nothing.
Anuj Nagpal Even in normal daily life, Japan has really complex recycling system and Japanese are aware to not throw their own garbage in the public due to the culture.
I am thinking about a new type of restaurants : eating-spots, in eating-spots, food keeps changing, chefs also rotate. this is opposed to current restaurants, thanks to this rotation of food and chefs, eating-spots are way more powerful than restaurants. along with that, there is an app, people vote for the food that will be cooked in the next days, menu is influenced by the live input of the people via an app.
I WAS HUNGRY ANYWAYS SO WHY AM I WATCHING THIS I JUST GOT COMFY ON THE COUCH AND I DONT WANT TO STANFD UP damn you Japan with your delicious looking plastic ;-;
@@Noobish0000 Japan's continuation of that war flag is a cause of diplomatic tension between Japan and its neighboring countries, because it is symbolic of the Japanese Empire in the early 20th century and the wartime atrocities it committed at the time, just like the way the Swastika flag does not merely represent history; it represents Nazis' wartime atrocities. So I know why Business Insider used it, but at the same time, the sight/use of the flag is a very contentious issue and makes some people uncomfortable.
@@haruka6672 I am not from the USA. Also, it is not about changing flags. The Rising Sun Flag is no longer Japan's official national flag, so Japan does not need to change its flag. (Why are you saying that countries should change flags under my logic? Did you think the Rising Sun Flag is still the official national flag of Japan?) However, the Rising Sun Flag is sometimes used in international sports games (some Japanese spectators use it, and it is a source of tension between Japan and the competing country every time this happens in sports events) and even in the navy, if I am correct. (Not entirely sure about the navy). Again, it is not about changing flags. It is about being respectful of neighboring countries and mindful of wartime victims.

It should be called plastic food replica instead. Fake food doesn't describe those appropriately.
