Huge potential with the heli mods, but they're not quite there yet. I'm trying to commission someone to tinker with the lighting.class files to turn off vision cones, ideally with a toggle/when you enter a helicopter. So, i had taken a look at the code of the helicopter mods (a few years back in B41 with the UH-60 by TTAJ1bl4, and now with B42 the new ones as well). The huey and the little bird, as well as the apache and the Hind, all depend on this new warthunder vehicles library mod - that is where they take their behaviour from - that one is basically a straight copy of the B41 heli mods, same code, just with a few variables renamed here and there, and some extra bits to make it work with B42. (there is also code to support the Abrams tank, but i didn't look too much into that...) I had some problems in my heavily modded playthroughs in B41, where in the case of some bad FPS drops the heli would glitch out and sometimes get stuck outside the map as a result... I fixed that bug in a private copy of the main code file, and made the controls much smoother and less jittery. if you want, i could provide the code file to you - for a temporary deployment, you can just drop it in the mod folder of the WarThunderVehicleLibrary... I'm not that familiar with writing PZ mods from scratch, but as a software engineer i know my way around a codebase... Btw.: the vision bug wasn't present before the recent patches as far as i remember. in my last savegame i could see zombies on the ground just fine while using the huey, so that might be adressed by TIS eventually. though there were some issues i had noticed, with shadows on rooftops specifically... they would only disappear once you landed, but after that it was fine. PS: just barely missed this stream. first thing i saw when i tuned in was you jumping off the building and the stream ended, lol.
I love the car door *ding* sound when you get in and out of the helicopter. When you find a willing modder make sure they do not remove that. ( I'm not your guy, friend!) You should also look to add an altimeter on-screen - preferably where they've set the height reading to the bottom of the landing skid. Sound projection in the game is defined in a sphere so it's possible the sound cone of the helicopter uses a fixed, small-ish radius and fixed sound variables (levels). Realism would mean a much, much bigger radius and variables that scale in relation to the distance from the helicopter. I suspect the heli-event could be something your modder could "borrow" code from as this is handled very well despite the heli not being visible. edit: It also occurs to me that the heli-event could be smoke and mirrors, with an invisible point on screen that follows you (if you're outside) and attracts the zombies while a sound file plays. Idk - I've been deliberately staying out of the code for this game: I need downtime.
