Sometimes they'd shift forward and made me look like I had a penis >_< For extra fun, the ones that were sold in feminine hygiene dispensers had two little safety pins in the boxes, in case your belt broke or your period came unexpectedly. Stick-on were available but were just as bulky as the belt pads and extremely crappy-- the adhesive stopped sticking real quick and the adhesive strip was maybe 1/4" wide. I was so happy when adhesive was improved and the pads got thinner and more absorbent. I'm amazed at how thin they are now, almost like panty liners.

When I started my period at 11... I didn't tell my mom right away. My aunt had just remodeled my grandma's house and there was a huge pack of pads left over from staining cabinets....when those were gone, I wrote my mom a note and told her 😆😁🤦🏼♀️. Note: For anyone else who might have trouble using modern pads, or have bikini line skin irritation issues and don't want to use a tampon/cup by itself. So... I know everyone's talking about how glad they are that these are gone... but I actually use one. Tampons weren't enough and those awful sticky pads absolutely WRECK my skin. And WINGS? Forget it. Whoever came up with that was a sadist (can't wear tight underwear either, for related skin sensitivity reasons. Switched to 1930's style tap pants). So I made one out of elastic and clip cloth pads too it. It has changed my life. I no longer have to dread recovering from my period for a week. It's a little bulkier, but I prefer waist height, poofy skirts anyway, so it doesn't matter. Granted I made mine off of a very basic 1900 patent image, so it's really very simple to operate, not at all like this one. Can't speak for what they might have become later.

Actually, since writing this comment I switched underwear again, to victorian style split-leg drawers because it is more comfortable and convenient for me personally. My point in the original comment was simply to offset all the people complaining about menstrual belts, in case someone happened across this video who might benefit from one like I have, and to give instructions for an easy way to use one. Isn't it wonderful that we live in an era with so many options! :)

I don't know if it was true or not. Besides picture a smelly giant soak and wet thing between your legs and it was also disgusting in a pool. ( no sex joke intended) lol 🤔
I've never heard about this infection thing. The problem is that in water the blood can leak through the pad. If you use tampons the chances of this happening is slimmer, but it's still possible.

Middle school, this belt, PE class........... they can unhook themselves (all they have to do is loosen then they are not tied-in anymore. Growing up, adhesive pads were always sliding out of alignment, twisting or just failing me in some way. I used to wish we still used the belt thing, but now that I see it, that would probably slide out of position, too. Either way I gave up on external protection altogether and now I use the divacup. Although, the super thin foam Always Infinity ones are pretty good.
Hey you from a year ago. Would it surprise you to hear that we do need external protection every so often nowadays? Sometimes we even use tampons again, too. Just because sometimes it can be pretty hard to bend over, with that new bathtub. But you wouldn’t know about that.

The sanitary belt is not good when swimming, my pad dislodged from the belt and when I got to the far end of the pool I saw my sanitary pad floating in the middle of the pool, I felt so embarrassed and then people began noticing the pad floating at the surface of the water right in the middle of the pool. After what felt like ten seconds a very loud alarm began to sound and a bell started to ring, a loud booming voice boomed out of the pa system to tell everyone to get out of the pool immediately due to it being contaminated by a used feminine hygiene device. On my way out of the water I felt so stressed and suddenly my foot rubbed against the rubber padded floor creating a very loud flatous gas expulsion fart sound, eceryone began giggling at me and the adrift pad in the pool.
That would be so bad now for me for MS personally also idk if this is weird or not but for me when I got mine I never freaked out (I got mine at 9) and only wore pads for a week until automatically switching to tampons

I think there was note somewhere on the packaging about “ not swimming if wearing”. Pretty sure you were “ excused” swimming classes on “ those days”.
