    For anyone who is interested you can also make your own powder with nail chalk pigments (sometimes called acrylic pigments to mix with acrylic powders) which tend to be much cheaper than ready made powders. Grind them with an efile slowly to make sure it is finely ground, store in little jars and follow her steps. This is exactly how this need to be done.

    Hey, I know this is a pretty old video, but I just got interested in nail powders of all types, especially, lately, these neon pigments. I tried out your technique above just yesterday, and you're right, with the purple and blue, it's kind of a mess (haven't tried green yet), but with hot neon pink on a pinkish base, it's absolutely OUTSTANDING! And neon orange on a light peach base also works just great! I might even keep adapting that one for Halloween, doing peach base/neon orange/black -- I have some black chrome powder -- and maybe even nude/neon blood red/black.
    Anyway, I find that I'm very confused about all the various methods of applying these powders; your video says half-cured matte, one I saw before said full-cured matte, another said tap it into cured but tacky color or base coat, another says into UNcured gel, and one I'm just watching in another tab, says half-cured shiny no-wipe topcoat (like with chromes). I've watched a lot of your vids and I really like your style - and your magnetic gel vids are the BEST! -- so I thought I would ask you your opinion of all that. I'm going thru my fake/practice nails at an alarming pace! 🤣 Thx for this vid and all your others!

    • @NailsByKatieDutra
      @NailsByKatieDutra  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It depends on the design/colors for which technique I like, and also learning new techniques as time goes on. ☺️ Now I don’t worry about curing the powder. I just apply to my matte top coat, then go straight over with my regular top coat. 🩷

    • @NailsByKatieDutra
      @NailsByKatieDutra  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There are many different techniques to achieve similar results, and a lot of nail techs do things slightly different. So it’s great to play around with your products and see what works best for you 😄

    • @andriaduncan5032
      @andriaduncan5032 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NailsByKatieDutra Well, I've had outstanding results by doing it as you showed in this video, so I'll stick with that. 😊
      I also figured out how to make the blues and purples (and greens!) less of a mess and more manageable -- for the base coat, I use a lighter shade of whatever powder I'm using, and by doing that, even the green, blue, and purple come out really well. Wish I could show you how awesome they look! I wound up with a full set of "skittle" nails, from pink to orange to green to blue to purple, so I'm thinking that will be my next look on my actual nails -- currently a frosty pearl white because I finally cut them and e-filed away nearly all the hard gel overlay, to let them grow out naturally, so I wanted some that didn't grab the eye while that's going on -- frosty white to the rescue! 😉

  • @cynthiajones9621
    @cynthiajones9621 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! I have been looking at all boomer videos to get as many tips as I can. Would you put a thin layer of trinity on before you apply the Cotton candy? Or is magpie pretty strong? When working on a client do you worry about the pigment getting onto their skin? Or once you put the top coat on and cleanse the pigment will be easily removed from skin? Not sure if a latex barrier is needed.

    • @NailsByKatieDutra
      @NailsByKatieDutra  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A latex barrier is not needed, the pigment washes away super easily if the clients wash their hands or if you use alcohol to wipe it off. If you don’t use a type of hard gel underneath then this would just be considered a gel polish manicure, so it depends on the type of nails that you are trying to achieve. I personally rarely ever do just basic gel polish manicures, I usually do hard gel. Thanks for watching ☺️

    • @NailsByKatieDutra
      @NailsByKatieDutra  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1
