Hi just curious but would the mag side plate on this penn fathom II 15 fit the penn fathom II 15 Casting special as the mag dial on the 15cs digs into the wrist when retrieving making it very uncomfortable to use and is putting some off buying the casting special.
the base bolt clamps of those models are too narrow to fit anything bigger than a 10 foot rod. if you surf fish, you probably use a 12 or larger rod. That is a huge problem.
What rod/reel would you recommend then? I ordered the standard 15 not the casting special and can send it back. I haven't picked a rod out. I intend to use it for mainly surf fishing on the East and West Coast of USA.

im looking to get one but with line lay dose it slow it down alot
These reels have a big problem with reels seat working loose after a few hours fishing . I have had 3 all go and waiting for penn to sort it out
It’s been 9months now since the video. The CS’s are impossible to find. Have you done a teardown yet? Do the parts fit well? Bearings and shaft etc?
You didn't mention the upgraded bearings in the cast special.
I’m curious. When you dial the magnets in can you actually feel the resistance?
cs has more line capacity too, which can be pretty important

You can just swap the control knobs.

Is there a difference in size between fathom 15 and fathom 15 II? I have not been able to find a comparison between 15 old and 15 new

My Casting Special had a "Made in China" sticker on it. I expect the other Fathoms are as well.

Use a fuji reel seat, or coasters?
