- Galactica at Alton Towers NEEDS to be changed, removed, or refurbished. Currently in a dire state, the ride has seen lots of operational challenges and is looking extremely run down, with lighting, screens and projections not working in the station, and lots of the ride looking dirty and worn. As we learnt with Duel, they have left rides in this state before and gone onto refurbish them completely... could this be the same for the B&M flying coaster at Alton Towers??

The original plans for Air looked incredible, a fully themed and immersive experience, but it had to be cut due to money. I'd love to see Towers change Galactica back to Air and go back and add all of that theming that was scrapped from the concept art. Towers has definitely stepped up their theming levels recently so this is potentially something I could see happening after Nemesis reopens. I'd hate to see it removed as it is such a unique ride for the UK and Europe as a whole.

Same, it's a way better theme than what most people here are recommending of a boring Phalanx Theme. We already have a Phalanx ride, Nemesis Sub Terra, we don't need another military/horror theme. Let air be air again.
I rode Air in its opening year, it's such a lovely layout I'd love it if they got rid of the space theme and made it about soaring through the clouds again.
I wouldn’t expect Towers to remove it, it’s still a popular ride. More likely I can see a complete refresh done on it to revert it back to AIR. If anyone remembers the concept art and model for AIR, there was quite a lot more theming and water features proposed, that didn’t make it due to the budget, so I would like to see those come back with the tunnel themed to fit. It always felt like an oasis in the much more sinister Forbidden Valley and I would love to see a return to that.
That puddle at the bottom of the lifthill is peak Towers theming😂
i love galactica, i really hope it doesn't go anytime soon, it's chill, got that pretty intense section on your back, and omg it's so comfortable, i would love for it to be returned to air, cause that was so much cooler
Doubt they would do it because of the cost, but i would love the lidt hill to be all enclosed within a tunnel, with lota of themeing and flashing lights to simulate a rocket launch. That would feel super cool. If they could make the lift hill a launch hill, that would be even better.
A retheme to a Phalanx Operation makes the most sense and is the easiest way to tie it into the rest of Forbidden Valley. The cars already look like futuristic military planes. The story could be Phalanx have detected more Nemesis spawn appearing in the area and the ride is a reconnaissance mission to survey where they're coming from. Then they just have to do some landscaping in a few small areas with a few Nemesis eggs and Eldritch horrors coming out of the ground that you can see from the ride, and maybe reveal a big field of Nemesis eggs as the climax before the last turnaround. Put together a briefing video explaining the mission and bish bang bosh it's done.
You can even reuse the music and call the Merlin portal a quarantine device so you don't even have to change those.
I'd love galactica to be kind of fantasy themed with riders diving in and out of rock work and waterfalls and stuff

If I allow my imagination to run completely wild I would love a series of transport coasters that take you from various parts of the park to others, so you can get between the areas via a ride , each one would be different , I can dream!!

I do agree! I rode it last week and while fun it is pretty tired looking, something definitely needs to be done. Realistically though, all I can see happening is a light refresh, like a repaint :/
We can only dream for a re-theme to fit in better with Nemesis 😅

Galactica should return to Air and have the proposed theming that John Wardley wanted that was removed from plans.

@@epiccoasterz But it is the original and the purpose of the ride. Another thing is Forbidden Valley could be all Phalanx related entirely instead as it theme the land better.
You mentioned a new retheme to go along with Nemesis… but what if they did the exact opposite and upgraded the existing galactica theme to match the Nemesis standard. Fixing all the effects, giving the ride a lick of paint, and possibly even rebranding it’s small area so it’s no longer In the forbidden valley and instead it has its own spaceport themed land.
That’s obviously Incredibly unlikely, but that’s what I would do

I hope it gets a full refurb; maybe rebrand it back to Air. But I'd hate to see it go as it's still one of my top 3 coasters
What needs to happen to it is a complete removal of the Galactica theming and reverted back to air for its final years. Re visit the concepts of the original ride and implement the bridges and landscaping it was meant to have. The tunnel was supposed to have effects in there but they ran out of cash. Also put airs old sound track back on and fix all the queue line speakers. Put the cameras back on the first drop instead of at the end. Remove the photo box in the queue line and take the walls off the station. Be a perfect ride again!
I went to Alton towers yesterday and Smiler and Galactica were my favourites 🎉

Bring Back air with the unused concept art Merlin! It looked sick!! We have more than enough dark/generic themes, the park currently is missing thay unique and lighter theme that air had. I miss old music as well! Ian Habgood did amazing with what he had!

DAN, POSSIBLE RETHEME IDEA:
galactica becomes a (phalanx) airbase so that they can evacuate people from the nemesis site after the nemesis creature attacks!
thought I'd keep with the flying theme, (the trains become military planes)

I think it should be closed for half of next season, the track and station be painted dark green like the sub terra building, the theme should be a phalanx drone looking over the nemesis site, and have the screens in the station be used as a preshow with the phalanx leader. Thats inspired by what someone suggested on a theme park insanity video
When I last went to Alton Towers, it was my first time on Galactica and the station building was literally leaking with puddles everywhere... it wasn't even raining then. Another thing was when I went on it, it took like 3 mins to dispatch but I don't think it will get removed (at least for a while). (EVE was working though...)
I dont know if im the only one but i think they should use the air idea but keep the name galactica and change the vr a little bit and change the looks of the ride vechiles and add more blues to the paint job.
Re paint and rebrand it as Fight or Flight of the Phalanx, give it new audio. The idea being the Phalanx have launched an aerial attack on Nemesis. Could be a nice budget friendly way to being it back inline with the theme of Forbidden Valley.
I think they should keep the space theme but somehow make it to do with the phalanx, maybe an alien invasion or something. Th set should then retrack it and completely overhaul the layout to make it faster and more intense, with a longer layout, more inversions and more themeing on ride.
I remember riding galactica about a month or so ago now and I found it a little rough, not as smooth as I remember. I really think a retrack and a retheme would be great!

If Galactica was themed to be like an angelic-like theme it’d be gorgeous
I would love to see a slight theme reworking to become somewhat part of the Nemesis narrative. If the track is in reasonable condition I would to see them invest in the ride and perhaps add new updated flying trains that would improve operations and reliability along with a track repaint, to paint the tunnel black and add lighting.
I hope the renewal of Nemesis is successfully enough to convince the park to continue to make restorative investments in their aging coasters and to improve their area theming.
I did ride it one tell with the vr and it was awful.
The feeling of not being able to move as your thrown about with a low resolution screen attached to your face wasn’t good
It really does need a retheme. I doubt they will retrack it with just finishing off nemesis and focusing on project horizon. I would love to see a name change though.
Galactica needs a lot of TLC but Towers is in trouble because Spinball doesn’t get any love. No the new system does not count as the theming is lacking and it’s got long lines daily.
Even though I like Galactic a lot I think it should have more attention because it is a very good ride but I hope the layout to stay the same
I really hope galactica he's the love it deserves because it's a brilliant ride it just needs more themeing and to look better. Ps if they retheme it, it has to keep the soundtrack because its amazing
If I had an infinite budget, brand new trains for starters because those seem to be really problematic atm, sky blue track repaint and Id retheme it to where it still kept its name of Galatica BUT Galatica is some sort of sky creature that picked the audience up in its claws. The starting tunnels would have layers of clear perspex to simulate clouds that would make it look like you were getting higher and higher before the lift hill starts. There would be more interaction with the terrain too, maybe Nemesis talons punching up from below or a water effect that would look like you were able to fly through a waterfall and sprays riders with mist. There could be headchopper effects with Galacticas dropped feather. The station would feel light and open with theming like a huge nest full of turquoise and blue feathers with the occasional nemesis scale. Id use the Air imascore theme for the station but add more bass or rhythm in sections to make it more exciting rather than calm. From the outside it would be like Neme and Galatica are somewhat battling eachother
If we can’t get air we should get an upgrade with better theming and a new repaint (still the same colour tho)
I think they should integrate Galactica into the Nemesis Lore. Theme it as the Phallanx’s use of the alien tech.

I’m the only person on this planet that loved the vr on galactica. Admittedly I had to hold the vr goggles in place but there was something about flying through space and feeling the wind in your face. I know theres no wind in space like but before vr the coaster was a snooze fest .
Galactica is a great ride but you’re right it’s very tired and worn out. With some good/immersive theming - the ride could be amazing. I wouldn’t like to see it get removed. I really didn’t like the VR.
To me it doesn’t really need a re track. It’s lovely and smooth. I would like to see a re paint and a complete re theme so that it becomes part of forbidden valley. Galactica doesn’t really go.
They could make Galactica a new monster or something that manages to capture you 🤣. Or maybe the Phalanx are saving you from nemesis via flight lol
Galactica is a popular ride - it was as busy as Smiler on a quiet day when I went so I would be surprised if they removed it.
the last place we want an RmC is Alton towers due to its restrictions. the place to put an RmC is Blackpool pleasure beach no Hight restrictions RmC can have full reign there
I think it would be cool if they made it into like a fighter jet sort of thing that is trying to fights the Nemisis monster

Even the best retheming imaginable wouldn't cover over the fact it's ride system is dying a death. Would cost way too much to refurb to a proper working state. Its got to go!😂
So is nemesis going to be the exact same ride or are they altering it a little bit. Or is it just updating the track? Loved nemesis when I’ve been on it before l. Tried the Galactica VR and found it so uncomfy it was nearly coming off my face so I’m glad that’s been removed.
It should become Air "Reborn". But I feel Oblivion needs more love, they still have CRT monitors in the station.

Last time I went on galactica it leaked oil all over my hand when I was on the lift hill 😂 They could kind of keep the space theme and link it to nemesis. As in nemesis has taken over and now the phalanx are flying everyone to mars to save them.

I Think the best thing to do for the park would be to jet wash it due to that not coasting too much and waiting until horizon opens then with the addition of that new ride it would make sense to remove galactical (as much as I love it) and maybe invest in an updated New gen and longer flying coaster manufactured by Vekoma like F.L.Y but knowing Merlin minus the theming
i definitely think they will do a retheme to fit in with the area, they cant risk closing the ride due to capacity, and the retrack is out of the question as the cost of nem must make that difficult.
I dont get why people are even speculation. Towers will obviously make a 600 ft tall tree and put a wooden rmc with a vertical launch going through the tree with an inverted top hat at the top.
Went a few weeks ago one of the carts just kept getting stuck in the station and then the other one was fine this was happening for like 3 hours it really needs to be re done

Another nice & good and interesting video, can honestly see this maybe removed in the long run after Horizon, but for now could maybe see a retheme happen aswell more track repairs, but talking about new additions for future, would love to see Towers replace it with a Vekoma Flying Coaster just like Fly at Phantasialand? Think that would be epic? Unique & new flying theme not Galactica, but something different and new, Nemesis 2.0 would be too obvious & think Towers in my opinion should create & build something unique for UK using space where Galactica currently is aswell where car park behind monorail track is through car park? Basically remove part of car park behind Galactica & build that in aspart of new potential coaster? If not a Flying coaster? Maybe an RMC Compact and aswell spacious coaster? With unique elements & again theming & storyline. Be epic I think, but yeah, think with Galactica either complete removal & new replacement soon or just a repair job for now & removal maybe later after Project Horizon? It sucks but I think they will adopt the Merlin approach and it will just be left to rot and gradually fall into more disrepair before eventually closing/getting removed.
I think the site will be location of their next major project after Horizon but probably not until 2030. Something like making it last another 5 years before removal after the 2028 season and then replacement big ride opening in 2030.
I might be in the minority but I enjoyed the VR aspect of Galactica. I found the coaster a little bland on it's own as Air and don't ride it unless the queue is very small

So true. Galactica definalety needs to change. It is still a good ride, just compared to all the other rides at alton towers, it isn't quite at that level. Even a small change might make a lot of difference in the ride as it is so fun even if it does look a bit meh

No chance it gets retracked, Nemesis is uniquely legendary and Oblivion might well be uniquely difficult to replace. I reckon it might get one more repaint in a year or two and then theyll run it into the ground before removing it around 2030

i went to alton towers yesterday and it broke down and i had to wait for an 1 hour
Nemesis was fine, the only thing was the tracks that were beaten. They weren’t even bumpy. Meanwhile galactica has nothing. It’s a good ride itself but there’s no detail or anything.
