Well let’s start with the bass player John Deacon wrote the song and that great riff. The band didn’t think they should put it out as a single until Michael Jackson persuaded them to. It was the first Queen single to go to number one in the states. The cool sound effects were from Brian’s guitar with a special amp built by John to work with Brian’s custom guitar. Brian built his guitar with his father as a 19 year old, he called it the red special. I would recommend 100% The live aid concert 1985. It is been said to be the best live concert in Rock history.

Don't sleep on Brian May, one of the best guitarists to ever play. He built that guitar you hear (with his father's help) when he was 16 years old. The wood is from an old fireplace. The guitar is known as Red Special, and has its own Wikipedia entry.
He's got a PhD in Astrophysics, and he wrote most of the music and lyrics for the band.
Freddie had the voice and the spotlight, but he wasn't the only standout in Queen.

any real queen fan who listented to lots of bootlegs knows this
also john deacon came up with some of the best basslines of all time and wrote some of queen's best songs like all 4 of em with him probably coming in 3rd place after freddie and brian
all of em were essential for their success

If you’re wondering why this particular song has such a strong bass line and strong percussion throughout It’s because it was written by John Deacon, the bassist for the band. Freddie encouraged him to write and helped him a bit when he started out and he turned out to be one of the band’s strongest writers.

My favorite is one of those 'hidden gems', as it isn't played as often by reactors - Love of My Life. It's a ballad, but the words are so powerful! Freddy wrote it as a tribute to his former girlfriend / best friend when he heard she was getting married. It really isn't a sad song, more a regret that things between them will forever be changed. The best recording is life from their concert in Rio, I believe. Hope you'll give it a shot soon! Honestly, there isn't a Queen song that's bad, so whatever you want to listen to, we'll be there to join the fun :)

Queen did something special for so many people- I even remember my sweet 60+yr old teacher playing we are the champions in my 8th grade class (around 2009) for us before started to take our state tests because she had told us the story of going to see Queen with her daughter before Freddy died and not being into it at the time but becoming a fan at that concert and the way she played we are the champions before we started out our couple days of state sanctioned testing…. She felt it was so significant-and before that she also played we will rock you. She believed in us but she also wanted to give a little context of powerful inspiration. What a wonderful lady.

    Other Queen suggestions:
A Night at the Opera” is a phenomenal album. There’s a song on there called “Death on Two Legs”, it’s about a former manager who was stealing from them and Freddie was absolutely vicious in the song. Brian May said that he actually felt guilty playing it live. There’s another song on that album called “I’m in love with my car” that was written by Roger Taylor (the drummer). He sings lead while playing drums, and the live version is definitely worth watching. Queen 2 (their second album) has insane production on it, and it’s a good look at their early stuff. Hope these help. 👍

In any other band in the world Roger Taylor would have been the lead singer.

    Freddie didn’t have a “walk”. He had a “strut” !!! ❤️👏

John Deacon on bass wrote this song, and it was their best selling single! Two performances are mandatory... Somebody To Love Montreal 1981 ranked 2nd as the greatest live performance, and Live Aid which is as the greatest live performance 👑🎤🎹🎸🥁❤️

I did grow up with Queen and I never notice the way he walks since that was just Freddie Mercury. :) Like Mick Jagger has his own way of dancing and MJ did the moonwalk. I didn't question anything, it was just who they were and it was actually WHAT they were.....
Love this song too, still, after all these years. LJ

Lily of the Valley, It's Late and Lap of the Gods Re-visited were all awesome songs that were not singles and so were not big hits. So many great songs the list would be immense

We used to play this song and We Are The Champions, for marching band competitions!
