  • You know how sometimes you create a model and put everythign in groups, just like Aaron tells you to... adn then you have this ugly edge right in the middle what SHOULD be a continuous, single face? Don't you hate that? Thanks a lot, Aaron!!
    FOrtunately, Aaron is here to make amends and give you some pointers on how to get rid of those extra lines in this week's Level Up SketchUp!

    In the first example, assuming I inferred correctly, you might point out that erasing the lines is possible because elements are sticky. Excellent insights on how to show what you want and hide the rest without a work-around. Thanks.

    Thank you Aaron. Although I hide edges a lot, I still learn little bits - I hadn't realised hide similar was even a thing!
    For me hide edges is most useful for cornice, mouldings and fascia, where corner pieces must remain unstretched but the sections between are components, scaled in one direction to fit between the corner pieces. Having the geometry hidden at the meeting ends gives a much cleaner look.

    There have been times when I decided to build things like table as single objects, rather than one component x4 simply because of the inside edges showing. This really helps and will speed things up. Thanks.

    Brilliant video. As a relative novice this is very handy. Sometimes I end up with way too many lines in my sketches. And also, with the tools you used, I learnt a bunch of new skills. Thanks!🎉

    Thank you for your videos! When I try to export my sketchup drawing to autocad it also shows the back edges lines. Could you please tell me how to solve that?

    That was great. Thank you. I designed a work stool with 5 legs. The legs connect a platform with the seat. They are angled from the platform to the seat. How do I send you the model?

      Alas, we do not troubleshoot models, here in the TH-cam comments. What you should do if you are having modeling issues or questions is head over to our user forum (forums.sketchup.com) and post there. A member of our very active community is likely to have the answers you are looking for!

      @@SketchUp Aaron always says the you are interested in making videos about things we’re interested in. I’m interested in seeing how we can use layout to determine and show what an actual angle is for a part we’ve drawn. But I see you want to send me somewhere else. So I’ll just go on my way.

      We are very interested (also... don't tell anyone, but this is Aaron). The point is that exchanging and working through SketchUp files is hard to do in the connects of a YouTUbe video, so we ask that users like yourself head to our forum. There we can talk through issues, share files, and open the discussion up to thousands of additional Sketchup enthusiasts. There was no effort to blow your request off, merely an effort to point you in the right direction!

    I've been using shift + click and then right click, select hide.
    Shift + Erase isn't something I knew existed, but do now...

    How do you un-hide a line? Specifically, I had lines hidden that I forgot about and closed out the drawing. When I reopen the drawing and noticed that the lines were still hidden, I couldn't figure out how to bring them back. Thanks!

    • @fisilk
      @fisilk 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Turn on hidden geometry (on the View menu) then click the line to select it then right-click and un-hide

      @@fisilk On my computer it gave me the option to un-soften when I right-clicked on the hidden line and that worked for me. Thank you for your response - much appreciated!!
