Their mission is great, but it's frustrating that in order to get the 5% APY you have 1: Pay a $72 annual fee, and 2: Spend $1000 on the debit card monthly. Looking into the details, this $1000 can't be from bill pay or e-checks, or direct transfers. It MUST be from using the debit card which is super lame as many places (like my rental company) charge fees for paying with a debit card nearly zeroing out the 5% interest earned. If Aspiration would only fix this I'd be a customer in no time. Varo is a great alternative at 5%, but also a bummer with the 5k limit. When it comes to banks it seems you just can't have it all :-/
I was wondering what was a catch ! Thank you for your post! I googled before coming here ,but none mentioned of the annual fee !! That seems very high ,too high !! If I am gonna get this one ( I was gonna right away,still am considering it ,but need to calculate all the +/- to see if it is really beneficial to me & mom ) ! They are listing all the grocery shops & drugstores we use anyway & the fees are free !! On top of that ,the cash back program ,so it is very tempting !! And planting trees is amazing !! But,the annual fee is way too high !! 💜🥁🐉🎤💞
