    Hi Molly. Another great review. Thanks especially for addressing the BeatRise issue b/c that was a question I had throughout the video. I do have one question: How do feel about the sound and feel of playing this style with the raised ding vs the 9 note double tongue with the traditional center flat tongue? does the raised ding feel awkward? do you get a full note like the flat center note?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To me, it does feel slightly awkward just because the distance is slightly different than the other tongues. I don't think it makes much difference in the sound 😊

    I'm interested in buying this drum but it's no longer available on amazon. Do you know the official website for hluru? There appears to be two similar websites but I'm not sure if they're different companies?

    Love your channel! Exactly what I’m looking for introduction to all kinds of steel drums. Which would you suggest if I’m interested in buying a nice / big one is ok, and my main genre is for healing music. Learned about skipping 4&7 from your previous video!😉

      Thanks so much! I think it really depends on your price range - for your uses, a really nice drum would be one of the Kosmosky Dvutone drums th-cam.com/video/nHAjXklKOvE/w-d-xo.html , but those run around $500. If you're looking more in the $200 range, I think this Hluru from this video is fantastic!

    that's the reason why I get the drums on Amazon only. Since if I dont like it I can return it. Beatrise at least you know all their drums are Hluru made. Some of the other ones on Amazon have drums that look not Hluru made even though they look the same.
    the problem I think is that Hluru started out, like many other Chinese companies, as a no-name brands, and they make these for others to sell under their own brand names since the company's own brand was not well known. Since then Hluru has become the 'big brand' for these drums in China, so now they are selling them mostly under their own name, but still others who they had deals with still have access to them under their separate brand names, as well as illegal copies of their design with some minor differences etc. That makes it very hard to get the right one... especially for us not in Asia :(

    Hi Molly. Great review!
    I like the sound of tongue drums but in a musical context the sustain times are often too long for me. Do you have any ideas how to shorten the sustain?

    Hi, bought one through your link, a great buy! After reading the reviews my only concern was the tuning. To my delight all the tongues were very well in tune. The Ding was a little low (could of been altered in shipping). On these you can tune by bending the tongue (ding) with a wooden dowel. Pushed it out now tuning is excellent.
    Thanks for your reviews!

    Do you prefer this or the double tongue drum that you reviewed with the double tongue in the ding (double tongue drum in D minor from a previous review)

  • @johnfritz2781

    Hi, great review. I remember commenting on the beat rise review that the Ding did not seem to resonate. This drum sounds 100x better. Do they sound the same when compared or is the difference of sound due to the recording set up?

      To me, they do sound the same (both resonant)! I think I recorded both of these with the same equipment, but I did switch back to my phone awhile ago, so it's possible they are different mics! 😊

      Great question! I buy a lot myself (including this drum!) because I do preschool music and am always looking for new instruments for them 😊 But occasionally a company will send me a drum to review too. I strive to give pros and cons for every instrument no matter how I got it though 😁

    2 questions, do they all say Hluru? because mine doesnt. and 2 how do you make sound with your hands? i have a hard time doing it

    • @MusicalMollyKhan
      @MusicalMollyKhan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don't always have the Hluru stamped cutout, but are made in the same factory from what I understand. The trick to playing with hands is to treat the fingers like mallets: a quick tap and release. Leaving the fingers down even for a moment will dampen sound 😊

    Hi one more question. Is it really steel? Does a magnet stick to it?

    • @MusicalMollyKhan

      I believe it is steel, but it isn't very magnetic. They stick but not well.

      Everyone has a rhythm.. that's the beauty of this instrument. Very hard to damage so you have a world full of tones to produce.. trial by time is my go to . Just play! I take mine to parks and allow those interested to play.. no one plays the same and that's the beauty of it!

    Hi Mollie, I do hope you can reply my message. I am planning to get this from AliExpress (alibaba).
    First of all congratulations for your Chanel which is absolutely amazing, i have been a long term subscriber and I encourage you to go on! Besides your voice is appeasing and amazing when you say "hello everyone" :)
    My question is: do you find it honestly that the sound is great and that the resonance is nice? Would it be possible that you upload or send me directly a demo when you play this instrument for at least one minute with both hands and mallets?
    Cheers from the beach in France !

      Hello Steve! Sorry it's taken me awhile to get back to you. I do honestly think this is a great sounding mass-produced tongue drum, probably one of the best. I would be happy to do a demo for you sometime this week if you still need it - my email is harpsandguitarsohmy at gmail if you want to email me and talk further. Thanks!

    It’s only a “hluru” or whatever because they white label it (like many others). They have nothing to do with the actual production of it. There are 10 other companies selling the exact same drum with their name on it. These are made in a factory in China like most other things in the world. It’s a good drum, but If you’re paying $200 for this drum you are paying too much. I got this exact drum for $35 off temu using one of their endless coupons
