I had a class project about making a top-down game where we could design a sprite or use a pre-made one. As the project was already hard enough, I made very few sprites and even I can tell from experience that there are many ways of remembering sprites. As Arin has done this for years, it was much easier for him than me, but I understand the process. You look at one shape in it's entirety while thinking of a picture of some random thing such as a flower or a bus, and it might be better if it isn't close to the shape because of how peculiar it will be. Then when you think of that same flower or bus or something, you will think of that shape. It's like putting documents in very specifically named files, but the files may erase themselves if not remembered correctly.

I was slow so I was part of the audience - still it was so nice to indirectly play with you all! :D Fun to see it uploaded and remembering that sleep deprived confusing morning :D
One trick for memorization tests like at 13:25 is to break the image/pattern/whatever down into smaller chunks. It's a lot easier to memorize 4 relatively simple 3x3 patterns than it is to remember a much more complex 6x6 one. Next, you come up with a simple but meaningful phrase to describe each chunk. Something like "Y with an extra on the left side, left half of an X, full right column, 4 corners with the bottom left moved up." Then, you just repeat those phrases over and over again until it's drilled into your head. Obviously, your mileage may vary. Everyone's brain works a little differently but a lot of people I know find that method helpful.
I hear ya. Like I said, everyone's brain is different. My point was that being able to memorize stuff like this isn't magic and you don't have to have a photographic memory. It's all about figuring out tricks to work around the way your brain works.
