Beijing 2008 has shown how much class, artistry, and culture in their opening ceremony. The world saw the coming and rise of a 4000+ years old ancient civilization in the global stage.

The Olympic opening ceremony in Paris, France was to me aesthetically distasteful. I used to think this city is the center of great art & fine culture. The ceremony lacked focus on the essentials of the event. The frequent insertion of what seems to be woke culture of the city was disparaging & poignant. What's more, the shameless display of testicles and morally offensive drag depiction of the Last Supper of Jesus Christ was utterly outrageous. Is this France today? This France is not worth the lives of the heroes of Normandy, the blood of the French martyrs and the respect of the billions of Christians worldwide !

We are offended because it WAS offensive! Sorry, Jesus, after 2000 years, we still have people showing their disrespect globally in front of all Christians, and try to make it look like art of France. Why couldn't they show the real DeVinci Last Supper in all its glory at the Opening Games to show Christianity is alive and well in France. Lost opportunity, instead showed such disrespect for our religion and they thought we wouldn't notice. It ruined the whole opening of the summer games, and put a cloud over the rest of the days at this olympic event. Not only Americans should be upset, but the Christians of al countries should stand up and respond in our Lord's name. Thanks Bishop Barron for your strength and words.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- More than a week after the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games, the Vatican joined people who complained that a segment of the show featuring drag performers offended Christians.
"The Holy See was saddened by certain scenes in the opening ceremony of the Olympics in Paris and can only join the voices that have been raised in recent days to deplore the offense caused to many Christians and believers of other religions," said the statement published by the Vatican press office late Aug. 3.
The Vatican statement did not specifically identify the segment of the July 26 performance, which featured drag performers, including one wearing a crown, seated at a table in a scene that reminded many people of Leonardo da Vinci's famous painting of the Last Supper.
"In a prestigious event where the whole world gathers around common values, there should be no allusions that ridicule the religious convictions of many people," the Vatican statement said.

Have you not provided yourselves with flaming torches and covered the Earth with the shadows of the fires you have set ablaze; even if you wash your eyes in the Pool of Siloam, you can not catch them breaking in for you are on the outside knocking. Just a thought.Theme the opening ceremony of the Olympics. I think that this teasing is part of French culture. Charlei Hebdo magazine did this teasing with the muslim prophet. The explanation although plausible was not satisfying. I agree. What I am more concerned about is the war in Gaza, the war in Ukraine, Syria, South Sudan, and the migrant problem world over. Is the best we can do as Catholics complain about the error in judgement of the opening ceremony? Let us put on our big boy pants and tackle real problems in the world.

We believe in Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, and we love the life of love and peace that he has granted us, through the Holy Spirit.
    Amen.

I have been reading many responses to this Olympic opening. My first take was that this opening was over the top and I did not like it. I Turned This Off. End of story, I do not think so. First, I think that this should not have been done, but for different reasons. This show was obscene for me and clearly children. With the world including children watching the production team turned a "blind -eye to this factor. Poor Judgement. Now with the explanation of the Celebration of Dionysus god of wine, Okay this is France. Crazy about wine and the story is plausible. But the Olympic producers should have been more "Woke". I do not worship Greek mythic gods and I am not offended.

Yes it’s our right as Christians to have our grievance heard. But this silly offense does not pose any real threat to the Body of Christ. The Lord has won.
Rather, this is a great opportunity to let go of our pride and ego, show them how christians live our faith by turning the other cheek. Show our eagerness to forgive, like how Pope JPii embraced his assassin. And show the LBGTQ community we also embrace them as God’s children.

They planned it. It was the decision of them all. Shame on them. Shame. Apology not accepted

Sumagot itong tagatingin, libre daw iyon ipinadala niya maaari dahil siya ay sumagot eh at walang bayad (iyong walang kahihiyan kundi puro kayabangan lamang), so ibig sabihin walang kinalaman sa amo niya iyon. Wala nang kinalaman don ang aking ex.

The cult of Dionysus was a cult of sexual deviants that was banned as far back as 186BC. I guess “Jolly” missed this part when doing his Google search. Furthermore, why is no one talking about the Golden calf and the Pale Horse; also Christian iconography?

They need to apologize to Jesus for blasphemy. Would these brave transvestites dare to do a similar 'spoof' about Mohammed or Islam or the Koran? Of course not.
