    Great instruction , Steve , thanks a lot ; tried this way in the past 4 months , it is working but hard to get the 3nd dimensional movement for me and always get the winner-attack by the opponent -/- I watched many times Federer's kick serve and feel he uses the pronation to create the 3nd dimensional movement , and I mimic this move the last week and now my kick serve's trajectory is different and the opponent worn't be able to attack during yesterday's game ...keep improving ...hope it will work , do you think so , Steve? Have a great day -/-

    I'm missing something here Coach. If I roll the strings over the top of the ball doesn't that get in way of the ball? I have seen other instructors say hit the ball up higher as you brush up back of the ball but I've not heard roll racquet strings OVER the ball. Is this a difference in technique or am I missing a key point. I can see hitting ball up is necessary but rolling racquet over the ball to my mind means impeding the ball. I can't see why you'd want to impede the ball's flightpath? 🤔

    You can finish like this but it wont have much pace. It will have a lot of spin. I prefer instead to approach on edge and pronate diagonally.

      This is definitely more basic..
      It's aimed at players developing the stroke for the first time

      Hello,it seems great idea and drill
      ,but can you please explain how may i combine this advice with your previous advice which was throwing soccer ball in to field.

      Hi
      They are not contradictory.
      You make the swing path as per throwing the ball and then continue to this finish.

    As always, I admire the creativity of your approach to well known technical flaws. Based on my experience, "rolling over ball" produces controversial results due to the fact it slows down the swing. Ball contact lasts 3-4ms. To achieve the 3d picture in customer's mind with pronation and proper racket face angle I would mention a great advice from Japanese coach (if I remember well). He recommends to hit the ball at 10 o'clock (no rolling). And create an imagination that contact happens near the bottom frame of the racket (close to the player's head).

      Hi.
      Do you not find that what you describe results in the players swinging in a straight forward line.
      Instead of a curved swing path?

    • @tzvetantzvetanov
      @tzvetantzvetanov 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oneminutetennis quite the opposite Steve. If the toss is over the left shoulder (assuming right-handed) and little bit in front, it creates a crazy kick. I might have described it incorrectly above - all I ask the player is to accelerate the racket as much as they can, so the contact point happens at ball's 10 o'clock. Usually that takes some grip loosening and a bit more leg work, but hey - it was you promoting focusing on the start of the kinetic chain! Greets

      I think this is simply a different approach.
      I always start with the swing path of the racket and not the ball toss.
      I used to stay by suggesting the ball toss is too the left and a little over the head.
      But, I found that when I didn't initiate this, some players developed great disguise.
      They did this naturally with the same technique as Federer, and Medvedev and many others.
      They throw the ball to the same place and reposition themselves under the ball.
      But I know where your coming from and it's simply a different perspective.
      Thanks for a great and informed comment.

    I imagine the ball is made from butter and I'm spreading it on toast in the air. This allows me to drive and spin with the right balance. Would you say this is a good image?

    I like explanation. But I thought racquet face was supposed to be parallel and pronating away on finish?

    • @oneminutetennis
      @oneminutetennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, pronation often occurs in the kick serve, especially the advanced kick serve.
      But we have to walk before we can run.
      I would never try to teach pronation to someone who is learning the kick serve swing path.
      That would just be too complicated.

    From what I understand Steve, this is not the Kick Serve move for an advanced player.
    This idea applies to anyone learning the service on Kick, right Steve ?
    Hence saying that before running, you have to know how to walk.
    Am I interpreting well ?

    • @oneminutetennis
      @oneminutetennis  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly right.
      This is an introduction to the swing path.
      But I will never state that a video is made for beginners or in this case intermediate players
      My view is that the beginners will find it useful. The advanced players will see that it's more basic technique.
      Does that make sense?

    My one problem with the drill of rolling it over your head is that you end up looking at your palm and the hitting side of the strings. Whereas, to properly perform ANY serve, at the end of the hitting motion you should be looking at the back of your wrist and the strings should face the right side fence (assuming right handed) or perhaps the back fence for a kick because you have pronated in order to get racket speed. See, for example, th-cam.com/video/vjCj3Krkh_k/w-d-xo.html at around 9:20 . Perhaps an instructive drill to understand hitting up the ball, though. Thanks for the video.

  • @carpediemyes

    Rolling over the ball with the racket is just as ill-advised as if you were doing it on a forehand...... And to get the reverse kick you must toss the ball to the back behind your head. JMHO.

    • @peterrattenbury8608
      @peterrattenbury8608 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rolling over surely refers to the circular swing path along the baseline or slightly angled away from the baseline. Consider the Sampras kick serve finish to illustrate this circular motion.

      I'm sorry that when you tried the drill you had this experience.
      May I ask... What did it feel like when you were hitting the ball with this exercise?

      @@oneminutetennis It felt inconsistent with the string plane constantly changing. To get topspin plus right kick plus forward power one must pronate. I heard you say that you teach that later. No problem, I enjoy listening to your ideas everyday.
