Why are we calling this a worse case scenario? I don’t believe it’s going to explode while we exist. Even if, it’s not extremely far away, nothing is gonna happen to us. It would be at most, a spectacular sight to see.

What we're seeing now happened 700 years ago. It might have exploded 690 years ago for all we know.

Nothing major at least, though if it goes supernova the increased radiation might batter the ozone layer and atmosphere a bit.
