- Here is our in depth look at the brand new Mesa/Boogie Mini Rectifier! We're going to show you all the in's and out's of this fantastic new amp. Although this amp nails the classic hit making tones of the Dual and Triple Rectifiers, it still holds a few new tricks up it's sleeve, with a dynamic touch sensitive response that only the EL84 driven Dyna Watt power section can deliver.

At last a nice demo with some mids, not the usual bass and trebble party with the mids scooped. Great job ! As for the price, it is what it is, MESA didn't outsource this to China or India like ORANGE and many others and I respect them for that. This is a professional amp not a bedroom toy.

I found your demo after I bought this rig, and I think you did a great job! You packed a LOT of useful info into a very short space, as it's hard to appreciate just how versatile this amp is.... Keep it up!
Probably the best amp demo I've seen! Thanks. I would love to hear single coils, or better yet stacked humbuckers demoed through this little beast. If they sound half as good as this demo I'll be getting one, and my markIV combo will never leave the house. At 90 pounds it's too much of a H M F for me to lug around anymore. Rock on.

The best demo I've seen so far for this head, you covered everything, including using the guitar's volume to see how the amp cleans up with a high gain setting. Excellent job!

Don, you nailed the landing,perfect 10. No kidding I’ve been checking out reviews for many years and your precise layout of the Mini recto is superb. I have a Mark IV 80’s vin that I’ve had since early 90’s and I’ve been interested in the Mini to set on a Marshall 1965B 4x10 cab (8ohms). I really liked your example of volume control at the guitar to change the sound of the amp. Keep up the great reviews and your guitar playing is so straight forward. I’d like to catch you live sometime! Jeff
Just ordered a Mini Recto from Don.If your wanting to order Mesa Boogie gear, Don is very informative and gives great deals. Don will play test these amps before he even ships them out. OR.you can take your chances with Guitar Center saying "ok dude yea man"..or Sweetwater saying "The forklift is getting your amp now". I feel better buying from shops that are informative about products and care about customers. BTW Don, that PRS is exact axe I play through my V and soon to be Mini Recto.THANKS

Yep! You can run as many cabs as you want. It's the total impedance that matters, and the mini is happy with either an 8 or 4 ohm load. Both 8 ohm 1x12 mini cabs running together in parallel equal a 4 ohm load.
To me this is the BEST review of the Mini Rectifier

@MyLifeChanger Of course not, that is because it is a Mini Recto. Each Recto has its own unique interpretation of that signature recto tone. You get a different response from the Early 2 Channel Duals, the later 2 channel Duals, the Original 3 channel Duals, and the Reborn. The Tremoverb, Road King, Roadster, Triple, and Single recto all have their unique flavour as well.

Right now the Mesa 4x12 is what I'm gonna have to plug the Mini Recto into, but soon want to get a 2x12 or a Mini 1x12 cab,

You should demo de EVH 5150III and the Carvin V3M, battle of the mini amps!
This is the best demo I´ve ever seen even though I didn´t like any of these sound at all. They are so kicking also on a clean channel but overdrive kicks right away. I know this is very good amp and tone control really answers but something is missing with that sound, one for sure to my taste is reverb any kind of.
We filmed it last week and it's still with our video editor. Should be out shortly!

I'm basically positive it can. My dad has one of these things and when you crank it with a 4x12 you get some serious fucking volume. ESPECIALLY in modern 25 watt mode. It's fucking INSANE how much volume this thing can put forth.

A big guestion is?If any one have played rehearsal with other instruments like drums and base?And what do you think?Does it do the job or sound is not so powerfull anymore?I think Messa should do something on big and smal stage at the same time.Mini but not 25 but 40 or 50.That will be perfect.
Awesome video. Very informative! How does the head perform at low / bedroom volumes? Or even better, what about situations were stage volume is a huge problem?
@zillathegorilla The Mini 1x12's have Vintage 30 speakers in them and we used a Royer R121 and Shure SM57 in these recordings. Thanks for watching!

@haggertysmusic No, THANK YOU! Once again Don, you totally rocked the demo! Mesa should be paying you to do these, they're way more helpful than the videos on their site ;). Not that the Mesa demos are bad, it's just that yours are really informative instead of just showing off sounds. Also, you totally came through for those of us with specific requests (thanks again for the EMG section!). Time to go back to playing my Mini-Recto...

@NeilBrinsdon We use a Royer R-121 and an SM57. The Royer runs through a True Systems Ribbon Preamp and the SM57 straight into the Presonus Firestudio.

cool amp but the mark v is the best amp mesa has ever put out hands down !!
i think the only thing that could beat it is a re issue of the mark 2c+ with upgraded effects loop and independent eq between clean and gain !
but we all know they cant do that so il stick with my mark v for now !
Nice amp and test, but the differences between the two cabinets are purely aesthetic? In the slant cabinet the speaker is really slant or straight?

carvin has better cleans but boogie distortion is harmonically richer and also tighter....i love v3's though, especially for a vai on hell sound and the cleans as i said are zappa level great
i kinda wish you had expressed how loud this amp really is. i picked one up yesterday and i can barely turn the master up past 8 o'clock (with the gain way up) with my girlfriend home. i don't know how you can sit so close to the amp in this demo with the master up so loud!
@cw5394 I reviewed it on a seven string, If you're interested.. Not as high quality.. As a metal player, I will say, I had to add a ts808 to get a good metal tone with passive pickups.. Fine without the 808 using my guitar with emg 707's..
Great review and great amp but the LTD can't keep up with the PRS. I mean it might not be a bad guitar but the PRS just sounds a million times better and I think it also would have sounded better if you used the PRS on the modern high gain mode. But I like the idea of using more than one guitar for an amp review to see/hear the differences!

Don, is there a possibility that you can try this with 6L6's? I'm curious to see if it can loosen the low end a little bit and add a little more... resonance to the sound.
