I would like to say I used tax act for the first time this year and it was great. I lost my job, had a lot of deductions, had retirement things to put on there and it was all free. For the past 12 years I always used HR Block and never were charged, this year because of everything I had going on they wanted me to pay. Turbo tax did not have as many documents that I needed an wanted to charge as well. I live in Florida so Tax Act really benefited me. We do not have to file a state return here. Hope this helps someone.
i just moved to florida & turbo tax is trying to charge me extra for state return too. i just wanted to confirm, state return isn’t mandatory in Florida? i don’t want to pay $80 for being unemployed & receiving a stimulus check, that’s more than my tax return
I think it all depends on you and what your situation is I have use tax act for the past couple of years and I haven’t had any problems and it’s very easy for me to use.And I will continue to use it

I've used TaxAct for several years. I have always been satisfied with their Federal processing but I've always been disappointed with their state offering. As a result, I often opt to go to the official state government tax site. This year I made the mistake of using their state offering and it was a total disaster. It cost me time and money. Next year I will defiantly make the change to their more popular competition. It will be worth the time to migrate my data and the pay higher premium for an likely superior product.

I tried to use the free online version and it will not let me input my SSN on my W-2 form, and it requires it. Getting help to fix this is very hard to find. (No help is available?)
Go to county where they do it for free....beside turbo take to snap pic of w-2 form is there another app that will🤔

I’m a H&R regular customer for 4 years. Same job, same house whole situation. This year I try tax act and it’s way better than H&R Block. I use to get a proximity $4,000 total from state and federal on H&R Block. Now, I get proximity $10,000 total from states and federal on tax act. Huge difference.
false-it's not due to using tax act.
It wouldn’t let me file because it said I didn’t fill in the state name in box 15, which I did.
Can you load Taxact on Chromebook?
For Louisiana state filers, Taxact wanted to charge me $45 to do my state taxes, and failed to account for basic schedule E exemptions.....would have cost me $1300. Federal pensions and Social Security are exempt from state taxes.
I just finished Taxact and it want to charge me $99.90 (Fed: $44.95, State: $54.95). They are forcing me to upgrade to Deluxe to finish my taxes. My gross is $29,330 and I live in California. Maybe it went up because I want to see if I have any State credit. I qualified for a $60 Renter credit. I'm going to play with it to see what cause this spite in price. It was free for me last year.

If my first 2 stimulus were checks and I filed my 2020 with my return being detect deposit will my 3rd stimulus be deposits?

It should be direct deposited if your return is in the IRS database by the cutoff for stimulus payment issuance. If you don't receive it within 2 weeks of the 1st batch being released, you may get a check. Guidelines have not been provided yet.
Tax act will not let me use a import code. It's a picture or type everything in. I feel like I am missing something but it's stupid. I have a efile that I need to upload or insert a import code. Of course, I can't.
I disagree to the statement "that you get the same refund". It depends on the person. I have done HR and they never gave me as much as TaxAct. I have had a great experience.
Theoretically, any tax software you use should result in the same tax return. It’s not like you have a different amount of income or deductions. Your income and deductions are the same whether you use this tax software or that tax software or do your return by hand. There must have been different inputs or different answers to questions if you got different results between the two softwares.
Question about taxes. What if you received a 1 time gift from a parent that didn't want to wait until there death to give it. What are the tax rules?

Hey I worked last year but only like one and a half months and made about 2,500 and then went on unemployment and got $21,000 from edd and when I went to file my taxes h&r block said that I did not have to do the California taxes the state but Federal I did and I've been getting money taken out of my EDD but it wasn't enough so I owe $167 and I'm not getting a return will I still qualify for my $600 stimulus from California?
$10200 of UI will be non tax when stimulus package is signed. Hold off on paying bill & see what the correction will be. If adjustment not made by IRS by 4/15, pay your balance due. No update for CA stimulus support yet

Taxact did not charge me for my state taxes. I paid 0 for my Federal and 0 for my state.

Taxact is by far the best it somehow knows my AGI & it never rejects my taxes. Ngl this year they charged me $34 PLUS $40 in fees 😐not too pissed bc its coming out my refund so ig its not that bad

I tried to efile about 2 weeks ago, turbotax, hr block, karma credit, etc. got rejected==because, I NEED A IP PIN#!!!!!!!!! I called the IRS 2/16==have to wait for snail mail with a letter into my IP PIN#!!!

If you establish an account with the IRS, you can pretty much get the IP pin instantly

Stimulus for a dependent in 2020 goes to whoever claimed you as dependent. Hope that helps

@@teresacoles1115 oh ok. You said you were a dependent last year. If you got stimulus last time because you were on SSI, you'll get it this time. Should be automatic, in a few weeks. The IRS portal for this isn't going to open til after the bill is signed & the IRS reviews what changes will be required. If this is your 1st time for a stimulus, you may need to use the portal. There is no clarity yet. Hope that helps.
